IK Socketing; What?

Hello All!

My wife Tundra has been fighting her way up through the quests and leveling up to use the full set (shy of the armor) and she will probably get there tonight.

I had her put 2 Perfect Topaz's on one of the Avenger helms that she uses on her main merc for MF searching, but for this barb; I don't know what I should have her put in the helm.

Should I have her put in 2 Shael's for the helm?

I looked up jewels, we have a few, but don't know what kind of jewel is good or bad for the helm and a barb.

BTW, she also has a slot in the maul, any suggestions?

Is she using Whirlwind? If so, you probably should pop two Shael runes in the maul to hit the last breakpoint. If not, maybe an IAS jewel would help at least.

What amulet/rings is she wearing? That may have an impact on what you should use to socket as well.

Generally, I would say that IAS is always a good bet (at least until you hit the last BP). I'm too lazy to look it up, but if IK set lacks in FHR, that would be a good idea too. Melee characters can never have too much of that.

What type of barb does she have? Whirlwind, Conc, etc?

*ARMOR* Sockets are usually best used for ed jewels, namely Ed/str for whirlers and ed/ias for conc/bash/berserk/stun; those are pretty rare though. Topazes are the item of choice if you want to do MFing with the set.

Alright..I'll take it from here...anything for answering an ik maul question...especially since we are long overdue :yep:

The maul is base speed 10 with 40% wias,you need 30% more in sockets to take it to lwbp-last ww breakpoint-which is -60.You'll get more hits that way.
So socket either two ias jewels,or two shale runes or a combo of both.

Socket an ith rune in the helmet for 15% damage to mana for non-stop whirling agianst unleechables along with 20% from angelics,or if u want mf,socket topazes or ed jewels,it depends on what you are lacking apart from the mods u get from the set.

Thanks to all for the replies. She started as a Concentrate barb using Hal's guide (She used it before for her 1st barb and made a Patriarch); but I suggested since you can't use a shield with the IK set, she want to change to WW. She now 10 points in WW and is about a level 76 I think. The rest of her points were distributed per Hal's guide which may not be a good idea using the IK set and no shield.

We are off to visit the in-laws so won't be back until Sunday night, so if anyone thinks this is a bad idea, please speak up. :-)

I will have her put 2 ITH's in the Helmet and 2 Shael's in the Maul.

She does complain a bit about mana being a problem.

She should be fine regardless of the previous point placement; the thing with most barb builds is that they mainly consist of BO, Shout, Mastery, and the weapon skill, with the leftovers going into ironskin. Depending on how much Conc she took, she'll just have to go with less ironskin in the end :)
