View Full Version : question about Holy Shield.
hi, im just wondering, how does HS effect your blocking? The bonus from HS only applies to your shield correct? Example if your shield Blocking is 50% and HS gives 15%, thats a total of 65% blocking that shield can have correct? Does HS blocking bonus also affect your total blocking as well? Meaning no need much dex to get 75% block.

correct
total blocking is derived from shield blocking.
shield blocking is added to by holy shield.
more holyshied % = less dex.
check pala faq for the formula.
all shields can have total blocking of 75% (max)
all shields can have total blocking of 75% (max)
Shields themselves can have over 75%, but the game won't show that. Why else would Whitstan's Guard be the blocking shield?
The end chance, so after the formula, is capped at 75%. After that it gets divided by 3 when running, so the cap when running is 25%.

You think i dont know that or that was asked?
total blocking as in faq is the resultant block as shown in char screen so its as i stated.
mixing definitions only confuses.
Haven't read your forum's FAQ yet, so I didn't know what you meant. Still, I found it confusing written out your way :)
But now I know that you know.
hi, thanks for the replies, that took care of the 1st question i asked. What i'm still confused is that does HS helps your overall blocking rate? I know HS allows your shield to get as much as 75% block, but when you use something like a Lidless shield which gives 45% BL by itself, and say your dex is super low and your total blocking is say 30%, use holy shield, say shield gives 30% more, which makes your shield 75%, does that extra 30% from HS helps your overal blocking? Does it increase your total blocking to 60%? Or does HS only maximize the % B you can have on a shield?

RTB - its not 'my' forum, but it would help if you either used terms from the faq or clarify (not that it needs) the faq in the correct place. I already knew that i knew.
zackul2 - did you look at the faq? the formula shows the effect quite clearly.
Holyshield adds to shield block directly.
holyshield does not add to total blocking directly.
total blocking (as per char screen) is calculated from dex and (HS%+shield block%) and is capped at 75%.
shield block%, isn't capped and neither is the term (HS+shield block%).
Take a look at the formula/faq to see what 'blocking' 'total blocking' and 'shield blocking' actually relate to.

I think I understand what your saying... that 40% or 75% or whatever you see on a shield is just used as a number when it calculates your actual blocking. It is possible to get 75% blocking using Lidless, although, it would take an INSANE amount of Dex to do... without getting to caught up in details... yes, Holy shield will make your actual blocking go up. Don't worry about that number on the shield... worry about the number when you hover over your 'defense' in your character view... look at before and after Holy Shield... you will see that Holy Shield raises it... saving you points to Dex to reach 75% if that is your goal. The blocking percentage on the shield can be thought of like this... the higher it is, the less Dex you need for Max Blocking.

This forum's FAQ doesn't seem to have many errors at all. Props to the creator :)
