make sure you get a second weapon. theres no such thing as an efficient throwbarb with one weapon :stoned:
skills:
20 throw mastery
20 double throw
20 EITHER double swing OR iron skin
20 shout
20 bo
1 bc
1 nat res
1 prerequisites
stats:
str - enough for equipment
dex - heres where you can really choose. its good for AR but youre not relying on a shield here, so really not too much.
vit - 200 +
energy - none
btw, i really hope the weapon youre talking about is glimmershred. its pretty much the only useful throw weapon. if not, you can get them fairly cheaply.. hell, if you want, reply to me and ill GIVE you one.
have fun :D

so a 'glimmershred' is the only useful weapon out there for a thrower?
I think I'll let Fallen Angel continue on from that thought.
I'd consider some of the other throw weapons available...like Lacerator (good mods that compliment Gimmershred's) or Demon Arch (nice chunk of fire and lightning damage) Warshrike if you're on Ladder...(good mods, pierces) and Wraith Flight and Gargoyle's Bite...both have nice damage and LL, and unlike Gimmers, they replenish.
The inherent problem I've found with a pure Thrower is the stacks always run out, and sooner than later in most cases. I'd consider a Throw Hybrid that uses Frenzy as a melee skill...this will offer you an alternative to an all ranged barb and will help you from having to make a trip into town every 15 minutes to repair your stacks. Frenzy also synergizes with Double Swing, which also synergizes Double Throw.
Figure the following;
Throw Mastery - 20
Frenzy - 20
Double Swing - 20
BO - 20
Rest in either Double Throw, or Shout or both. These should be fed last.
Either way, pure Thrower or Hybrid, you should invest at least 1 point in Howl, Taunt and possibly Warcry, since, being a ranged attacker and with no shield, AI control comes in very handy.
Consider a Razortail belt for the pierce is gives, which helps trigger mods on your weapons (like Lacerator's Amp Damage) and pierce helps cut down crowds quicker.
hope this helps,

k got a nice lvl 80 thrower on uswest ladder.
throw dmg is kinda weak so here's my equip.
ammy: highlords (for the skills, ias, and most importantly the deadly strike/clvl mod) alternatives are atma's scarab for amp and ar.
rings: ravenfront (cnb, everything else is gravy, throwing when frozen = agony), manald heal (bah, need a nice dual leech/ar rare eh?)
armor: duress runeword any elite armor will do(some crushing blow and openwounds, not to mention nice fhr bonus and def)
helm: arreat's face
gloves: dracul's grasp (open wounds, ll, chance to cast life tap, wow!) alternatives are hit power craft vambraces or blood craft vampirebone gloves, hit power gives knockback, blood gives ll and up to 10% crushing blow. both not too shabby. and if ur really broke some cleglaw's are really really nice.
belt: nosferatu's coil (ias and slows enemy, rawk) verdungo's also nice
boots: goreriders (more crushing blow and open wounds)
weaps: i use 3 different weaps in pairs. gimmershreds for everything. warshrikes for bosses, lacerators for cows and pvp.
as u prolly noticed a lot of your damage comes from the special mods, deadly strike, crushing blow and open wounds. well that's the way it goes. fwiw, with gimmershred u can do about 5k dmg with dbl throw. not too shabby, tho most of it is elemental.
for stats i have enuf str for arreats, about 100 dex and the rest vit.
for skills max throw master, dbl swing, dbl throw, battle orders. really you don't need battle orders since if any enemies get close enuf to attack you've done something wrong. if u get bumrushed: war cry, frenzy, run away.
right now i'm just lvlin' up, tons of fun them throwers.
yea its glimmershred :D and what secondairy weap i should have?

they're not that damaging but they are really fast :)
That's actually something thich I have a question about..
What speed do you throw at and are there breakpoints?
I never hear someone talk about that.. is it based on your right hand weapon just like double swing or based on both like frenzy? Is it just a set attackspeed and does IAS actually matter??
heh

I have a HC throw barb still from last ladder. Haven't played him in a while.
Fun build, but not safe, not fast killing and it doesn't do the 5k damage that is displayed in his character screen. (if i simply compare this 5k with the 5k from an IK zerker barb)
It uses of course double throw.
Lionheart armor
Arreats helm
Wartravelers
Tgods belt.
Highlords wrath.
stats were like 150 vitality, strength what needed, rest in dex.
it has some points in grim ward, howl and taunt. Increase speed is also a good skill for the thrower, but 1 point can do.
If you want to solo, you kinda need these skills, if you want to play in a party and don't care about showing off your skills, you will probably be more happy without them. You could make your barb a kind of iron barb and not use those skills solo, but that would defeat the build's purpose and damage would be low.
In equipment, the first priority is to get damage bonuses like those on wartravelers, they are extremely important for a thrower. Strength, Dex and Vita are the next priorities.
In some area's, espescially on hardcore, elemental absorbs are not just a piority, but a necesity. That is Tgods+dwarf+raven. If on softcore, you also get some pride out of never dying, i advise to use those there as well. They are also nice for their stats and AR. (those 3 items IMO are the hardcore god-mode, they make ALL the difference)
what are Wraith Flight and Gargoyle's Bite?
and a stupid question when i have throw all my glimmershred can i have the stock back in reparing them?
thx a lot man and what secondary weapon should i use armor and etc.. i dont have a lot of realy good item but i can try to fiund some ... is in ladder throwing barb will survive throught hell?

I really dont like gimmers on a personal note. For pvm the damage is great and all when going vrs a physical immune. But a lacerator's amp can take care of that {although the monster flee can be annoying as hell}. But the worst thing about gimmers is the repair cost sence they dont replenish. And gimmers seem a bit slowish.
Lacerators {well good ones} can be a bltch to find {lots of smiters and some bow zons like to keep one on weapon switch}. A cheaper alternative that has a bit of elemental damage from your gimmers, and replinish and great speed and somewhat ok damage would be demons arch. They are all over the place and i'm sure you wont have much trouble finding two {two}.
Personal note = for style & sexybabaness, dont mix weapons on a sexy build like a thrower, try and match em  . Only good weapons that dont match that still fit good on a stylish barb would be bul kathos set {rare as hell to see anyone useing really...}, or a weapon + wiz spike for a tele'ing pvp barb.

Here is my advice on throing barbs (I've got 2)
Max Throw Mastery
Max Double Throw and Double Swing
Bax BO (of course)
1 in Grim Ward (great use for thrower)
1-5 in NR
3+ in Increase Speed
You don't need defensive skills as you are far from monsters
Use 2 pairs of weapons instead of echoing pair on switch (you'll lose some life but you woun't return to town so often)
Stats:
Str 100-120
Dex 150-200 or 300+
Vit The Rest or Base
Eng - Base
This is your decision - titan (dex-based) or safer. If you are HC definitly skip the titan variant, but if you are SC or PvP you can try a titan.
And you are not right that throw dmg is low, it's pretty descent I can say
Lotta Throw variants being listed...which is good...alot of excellent advice too. I'm definitely considering making a Thrower for the new ladder season, if I can find the right gear.
Throw damage is bugged however...there was a thread not too long ago that went into some detail about it. What's listed vs what actually occurs is different, and you should take that into account when choosing weapons...mods will go a long way to offset the damage.
So what merc do folks here think would be the best choice?

For my thrower I use a Holy Freeze merc, he really helps to keep the baddies away from me and make them easier to hit. I suppose a Might merc would to the trick too if your low on damage.

What the hell are you talking about? I'm hoping you don't truly believe what you just said.
What the hell are you talking about? I'm hoping you don't truly believe what you just said.
maybe i shouldnt have said 'only'. sry if i mislead you warax but... if i wasnt quite rich i would still go for gimmers. their elemental damage is just great. as for repair costs... yeah that can get to be a problem sometimes. but.. im not sure who said it, but having frenzy in case youre running low is a good idea.
and sum yung guy, yeah i guess eth warshrikes and lacerators are good too. definitely faster than gimmers. but like i said.. personally, i prefer teh elemental damage.
and do demon arch and the other javelin of his kind are good option too?
