Hello there,
I quit playing d2 around the beginning of .09, So its been around 3-4 years.
I thought I would get back into the game with the release of .10 but Im having ahard time starting up.
Anyone able to help me a bit? Any pointers on how to start up and get going or get basically, on my feet. With the new synergize Im not really sure on how to build characters. I know I need to start PvM and MF but What character is best to start new?
Thanks in advance for any help you may have.
Firstly, welcome to the Forums. Have a great time here!
Next, what sorta character would you prefer playing? A melee character or ranged character? I think there are different builds for both which can last all the way to Level 99 ;)

First off, let me welcome you to the forums, and back to the game. 1.10 has changed many of the things you may remember from the good ole days. Certain builds aren't as great any more...multishot zons?...and some are way better...skellimancers?...but basic playstyle and such hasn't been majorly altered or anything. I'd suggest taking a glance thru the character class-specific forums and browsing thru the guides. Some will state how item dependant they are, and whether or not they require the godly items to be effective, etc. For quick refrence, I'd suggest a meteor-frozen orb sorc, not too dependant on + skills to be effective, hammerdins are also supposedly pretty awesome, or, a really easy one is a skellimancer, as you can have an army killing for you and you can wear your full mf gear, even if it's just a 4 socket armor with topazes in it.
If you happen to be on east non-ladder, I'm always up for a team questing/leveling game, or just to show off what some of the "cookie-cut" builds can turn out as. I might even be able to find some good low lvl stuff, or donate p-gems so you can work out trades here on the forums.
Hopefully that provided some answers, if not, someone else will surely reply.

Definitely read up on 'synergies' - they make a huge difference in how many characters are built. I was in the same boat as you (new to 1.10, played lots of 1.09) a few months back and it took a few tries until I got a character 'right'.
Another big change is the levels you need to make before surviving the next 'round' - I used to graduate from Normal to Nightmare at around level 30: now you need to be around lvl 45 to start NM successfully. You need to be around lvl 75 for Hell, whereas I used to start it around lvl 58.
Best of luck, have fun, and ask lots of questions here - the experienced guys who provide the answers are the best!
