Not sure I wanna burn a KO + a LEM on this. Does it just up the DEF? If so, how much? If not, what exactly *does* it do?

well it increases the defence value, so the chance to get hit will decrease.

It's only on ladder you can upgrade an exceptional armor to elite.

The lem runecould be used in a delirium helm to your merc. It's wonderful to watch all the confused monster in their drunkness.

Yes it's worth it. Upping raises it's Str requirment but it also makes the defence go up to around 1200 or-so. ( If I remember correctly)

Upping it converts it into a boneweave (with all the Shaftstop attributes, of course), but its base defense will be random instead of max+1 (which is normally the case for armors with enhanced defense). In some cases that might cause the armor to be worse than before, e.g. assault helmets (like Arreat's), but that won't happen with a mesh armor like shaftstop.

In addition, the strength reqs rise by 7, the level req of the armor type is higher by 5 and if that level req is higher than the reqs for each of the mods on the armor, that's the new level req. Maybe it's str +5 and level +7, I'm not sure about that.

Ethereal armor will lose the 50% bonus to base defense, but retain the disadvantages of etherealness btw, so don't upgrade any ethereal armor to elite (including helms, belts etc.). Ethereal weapons don't suffer from that bug.

The str requirement only increases to that of the elite, only the Clvl requirement is increased additionaly (norm>excep=+5, excep>elite=+7, norm>elite=+12 to either the original Clvl requirement, or that of the base item).

I did it....mine went from 652 to 1312....I'm happy with that....
