View Full Version : Finished Hell Mephisto!
Just finished Mep last night for the first time and guess what? he dropped Jalal's Mane! whoo hoo! what has been your best drop from Mep? feel free to boast here! :buddies:
anyway, I decided to venture slightly ahead and I was absolutely stunned at how fast I died fighting those gloams in hell! horror of horrors! :scared: I never had problems with them in Normal and NM because I have a fair amount of resists charms in my inv but isit just me or are they suddenly a million times stronger in hell?! I tried dim vision and reviving max venom lords and doom nights(about 12) to help out my merc, golem, skellies and mages but to no avail. They were all over the place picking off my minions one by one like "sadistic-snipers-from-hell" arrgghhh!!! please tell me your methods in surviving them, hansomely of course, in hell.....thank you

My method? Wait until the Conviction gets them, then run up and hammer them into oblibion (2 whacks usually does it). As an Avenger, those things aren't terribly scary, even en mass like you'll find in Act IV Hell.
The only critters that gave me a tough time - once I got my crowd control gear squared away - were the Hell Ancients. It took over 50 tries before I got past them.
I've got a Skellimancer going, but he's only in Act II NM so far. Lot's of fun, though - but I worry about how he'll hold up in Hell.
Congrats on besting Hell Mephy!

Congratulations on beating Hell Meph.
I've never taken a skellimancer to hell so I can't offer much advice other than proceed cautiously and try not to wake up too many gloams at once and dim vision the ones you see. They have quite low life so if you have any poison spells you could try using these spells on them.
Sweet man!! Congrats on taking on Mephy in Hell. I've only gone as far as NM Meph and his drops aren't as good. Still, you're quite an inspiration and I'm going to work my butt off to get to where you are! :) Once again.. good work!

Gloams are bugged, even with 50% resistance yourll die from 4 or 5 lightning strikes.
You're quite lucky.
I've got shaftstop, shako for meph. Atmas wail too, and draculs crasp(wampirebone gloves clvl 76)
There is a thread in the community forum about a guy who've run Meph 50 times in row, but only got crap, And a HoZ.
Hell, hell is easy I think until you reach city of the damned, those undead sorcs are a pain, Burning souls on plains of despair is a pain in the a** too.
When you reach the sanctuary, dont give up even if the oblivion knights hurts a lot, they're immune to cold. Look put for the venomlords too. Diablo himself isn't bad, and i guess you have some curses, that would make it easy to defeat him. His LBoD will surely kill your minions so make sure you have some copses to make new sceletons from.

Diablo himself is a piece of cake for skelliemancer and if more than half of your skellies die you're doing something seriously wrong. Cast decrepify on him, cast a clay golem next to him and look at him just stand there unable to do anything while your minions whack him to death. Really, no boss on hell can do anyhing to skelliemancer and no you don't need huge +skills for this either. It will take some time but he's a sitting duck there so it doesn't matter much.

All on all skelliemancer is very easy to play on hell with only some monsters like gloams being pain since their attacks go through your minions and reach you. One trick is to avoid staying on direct line going from gloams to your skellies thus avoiding their lightning attact. Gloams have rather little life so casting amplify damage on them and just leading your skellies on them should take care of them rather easily. Don't wait for them to get on to your skellies since they won't come, they shoot from distance thus retreating slowly is a bad idea, you need to be a little more aggressive with your approach with them than usually with most monsters. Large radius Corpse explosion of course makes it even easier.

I think i need to read some guides again. I somehow do something wrong .

Maxed skellies and mastery? Atleast a point in summon resist, golem mastery and clay golem and decrepify? Those should be pretty much enough for confronting the big D. You probably should have few +skills by that time to make it somewhat easier. Just get D to a place where your minions can surround him, cast clay golem next to him (preferably on the other side than where you're coming from in case he decides to lightning hose it) and watch your other minions surround him while he's whacking the golem, you just keep him decrepified and cast new golem if it dies. Decrepify has pretty short effect period, it's pretty much the only thing you need to do though so it isn't much to do. Clay golem will slow him as well and as a result you will have one slow big guy. The moment he has chance of killling your army is when they're closing on him but not quite yet there making it impossible for him to attack.
my skele necro build who is now lvl 88 -
Summon Tree
Max skele mastery
Max raise skele
10 clay golem
10 golem mastery
1 summon resist
1 revives
Curse Tree
1 in all curses in middle and right hand tree
P & B Skills
Max CE
1 Bone Armor (you get about 600+ absorb because of marrow walk bug. I know its not a huge amount, but it can save your neck on more then one occasion)
As for my equipment:-
Harle with PTopaz
Runeword Wealth (mage plate)
Marrowwalk +2
Chance Guards 40%
Homo 'lem'
Arm of Leoric 'lem'
Amu +2 necro skills with MF
Dwarf Star
Nagel 30%
I have 5 skillers + anni, and the rest being 7% mf charms and gheeds (with cube + tp tome) this leaves me 2 rows in my inventory free.
I have 350% odd mf with over 1000% Gold find, and my typical MF run is from start to finish all in hell - Cows, Pits, Andy, Duriel, Travi Council, Council in Durance lvl3, Meph, Diablo, Pindle, Baal. This can take me anywhere between 60 - 90mins, but is alot of fun and my army is virtually unstoppable. I think my necro has only died like once in the last month.
I forgot to mention my army can consist of 14 skeles + 7 Mages + 15 Revives.
My Merc is NM Act2 Offensive, and my main secret is having my merc using Runeword Cresent Moon made in a ethy thresher, because static is such a joy accompanied with lvl 29 CE =)
I hope this helps some of you out
(small edit - I forgot to mention at level 88 I still have stat and skill points remaining, my build can so easily solo hell, then i'm unsure where to stick these skill points as i don't really need them)
I recently built my first SkelliMancer, following Fish's guide pretty closely, and I was amazed at how easy Hell was with him. The only place I had a problem was Diablo, and that was because I didn't know to use a clay golem to tank him. Using an iron golem instead, he wiped out my army and I had to go rebuild it. I did beat him finally, tho. I also think part of my problem was because I didn't nail him with Decrep fast enough. Every boss I've hit with Decrep was nailed in place and didn't cause me any problems, including the formerly scary Mr. Lister. Baal never moved and never got to call his twin. Ancients took a long time, but I killed them without any problem - I think they wound up killing like 5 of my 13 skellies before they succumbed. All in all, Decrep is just awesome - I use Attract + Amp on normal crowds, but for bosses and other fast & dangerous critters, I *swear* by Decrep.
I was also disppointed that my Necro was unable to take the clone. I got him to 1/2 health real quick, but no more. Later reading taught me that you *must* hit him with PMH early on, and my merc did not have that. I now have a PMH poleax in my stash, waiting for the next World Event....muhahaha....
As for the gloams, they are murder, but I made sure my LT resist was maxed, and I hit every one with Dim Vision the minute it appeared. This worked ok for me, but I sure hate those dudes (not as bad as my Pally hates OKs, but I digress.....).
All in all, Skellimancers rock

Gloams are indeed kind of annoying. I've heard that they're bugged in that they do not only deliver lightning damage but also physical damage via their lightning strikes. Well, as a necro you should have 1 point in attract. It's a great spell against those buggers. Just cast it on one or two gloams in a group and watch them fight each other. Take them down in the meantime :D

And don't forget to give your merc (nm offensive, of course) an upped Kelpie Snare (not Reaper's Toll !!). I had a skellimancer in the last ladder season and IIRC he never lost even a single skeleton to any act boss in hell and the Ancients as well. I admit that he had some decent necro stuff, but most decent necro stuff can be bought for gems or not that high runes anyway (Arm of Leoric, Homonculus, TO armor, Marrowwalk etc.).

Not in the same drop I assume.
Try to beat Tal Rashas amu at NM mephi, though.

Dunno which is which, but altho I use a Holy Freeze merc on all my other toons, I use a Might merc on my Necro, cause I just love the idea of adding that extra damage to all my skellies and my Gumby, as well as my merc.
As for equipment, the very first critter I killed in NM Act 5 dropped a Homonculus on me - I almost freaked, since I had just looked it up and figured I could never afford that. I had not intended to take advantage of the MarrowWalk bug, but some guy offered me a pair of +2 Marrows for something I had that he wanted, so I caved....heh He also wears 41% War Travs, 39% Chancies, an up'd GoldWrap, Skullders & Harley (both with pTops), and uses a GravenSpine. Dunno if the Arm is better, but finding the GravenSpine was what made me decide to make a Necro, so I stuck with it. Also, I have a Gull dagger on switch....

Sorry - double post - forums were acting up again. Dunno what the problem is lately, but I often get a timeout while trying to resolve the URL for the forum. Everything else works ok, dunno if others have this problem or not.

NM Andy dropped me a Tal's ammy couple days ago....does that beat it cause she is Act 1 vs. Act 5 for Meph? :yep:
She also dropped me a Gheed's, tho not at the same time. And I almost died yesterday when Hell Countess dropped me an IST, instead of the EL+ELD she normally gives me
I used the IST to make a Delirium helm for my Sorc's merc. Not the best merd headgear by a long shot, but it's a hoot to watch the Confuse and/or Terror pop, and when your merc turns into a Stygian doll....
