All--

I found a post a while ago on the once existant diabloworld website that there is a tried and true way to run multiple instances of d2X on a system. Of course, in my infinite wisdom I didn't print

How do you folks USE the two CD keys you have (for those of you who do) in order to simultaneously run two chars on bnet? I have been wondering how and never took the time to post --

I personally run 2 copies of D2 on separate computers. To run multiple copies on the same PC takes some hacking I believe (at least 3rd party installs), which is not recommended by me or these forums.

I think you need D2loader, which looks like a harmless program to me. You do violate your EULA but I don't have any problems with that. You payed for the damn program, right ? :)

doggone right. I have three copies of the program (both orig and lod), so bnet can shove off

Actually, I belive that there is an entirely legit way to go about this, the only thing you need besides 4 cd keys (two classic, two exp.) is windows XP. I'm in the process of getting a new computer and was researching this myself not too far back. I've got a link to the thread I found most helpful HERE (http://forums.rpgforums.net/showthread.php?t=213417&highlight=windowed) and HERE (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;279765) is a link to the microsoft page that tells how to user switch.

However, if you don't have XP and don't want to get it, there isn't a legit way to do this that I am familiar with.

Good luck, hope this helped.

Neat. I'll try it though XP blows ____ (I can't say what I want to... sorry kids). I think I have a sysprepped XP image floating around the house somewhere, so I'll try it tomorrow and let you know how it goes.

all you need is a modified d2gfx.dll file (search google). then you can alt+tab.

Why do you think XP blows so much? Cost? The older Windows versions crashed incessantly. With XP, I haven't had one crash.

Why does XP blow? I'm a technology consultant and have been working with Windows OS since around NT3.51. Granted, I give that XP is more stable, however it's bloat code and still fairly insecure (Service Pack II included). How many people think that because you see the login screen quicker that it's faster than other OS's (even though the HD is still going nuts on your super gaming PC). Of course, working in the field doesn't make me an expert, and this is just IMHO. And in case you are curious:

- I run win98 for my gaming PC (no issues with a HAL between game code and video cards)
- Win2K pro and Win2K3Server on the rest of my boxes :)

and btw-- my boxes don't crash (even the 98 machine)
