rerolling rare eth. dimensional blade?

hi, i found a rare, ethereal dimensional blade, but only with crap mods.

can i reroll this item with the 6 pskulls recipe and it still remains ethereal?

Nope whenever you use the horadric cube to change a weapon it will loose the etheral bonus.

I think so, and the soj/pskull recipe is 67, which still sucks.

Best way to do it is use imbues on ethereal dimensional blades/crystal swords, and then upgrade. Of course those only come 3 per character, at least they aren't ilvl dependant.

6pskull recipe:
new ilvl = (old ilvl + clvl) x 0.4

soj recipe:
new ilvl = (old ilvl + clvl) x 0.66

actually i looked up the formula and it is:

ilvl = int(.4 * clvl) + int(.4 * ilvl)

so lets assume i have a ilvl 50 dimensional blade and i have a level 94 sorc, the new ilvl will be:

0.4 * 94 + 0.4 * 50 = 57 (57.6)
which is enough to get cruel (51) and quickness (46) mod.

if i reroll a second time the ilvl actually increases:

0.4 * 94 + 0.4 * 57 = 60 (60.4)

so if it didnt loose the ethereal bonus i'd say it is worth rerolling.

The 6 PSkull formula does not always reduce the ilvl, as you note. It will actually move the ilvl towards 2/3 * clvl, if you keep doing it with the same character (so with your clvl 94 char it will end up stable at 61).

However, ilvl is not the same as alvl, which is what you need to work out which mods you can get. alvl (affix level) depends on both ilvl and the base item's qlvl. Exactly how has been explained many times on this list, have a look for it. With a Dim Blade you will need at least ilvl 78 to get Cruel. Note the alvl 51 Cruel is just for magic items, the rare-enabled Cruel is alvl 56.

Also, just confirming the rerolling does definitely remove ethereal.
