View Full Version : MF Runs in Hell

I'm not much of a DII newb, but the question I have is one that will probably be considered 'newbish'.
I have a mid 70 sorc, who I use for Hell MFing. At the moment, I just do Andy Runs. However, I want to increase the length on my runs, and need some more spots.
First, some information. My sorc is a Blizz Sorc, and Blizz does over 3k damage. Im 100% cold, and the only other skills I have is some warmth, and some lightning for energy shield.
The problem is, when I tried doing Countess runs or Pit Runs, I had absolutely nothing against the cold immunes. I'd stand there shooting Chain Lightning at them (My strongest noncold attack), which does not even 200 damage.
This is really annoying, and I'd love to hear what some of you have to say. Right now, I have a +3 Meteor staff on weapon switch, but the meteor isn't very strong, and I can't rely on it for killing.
I was thinking of levelling up my merc, but I always found merc to be unbelievably weak. My one is lvl 74, and hits barely over 300.
Anyone have any suggestions on where I can MF, or what I should do/use? If you're going to suggest using my merc somehow, please go into further detail, and explain what to do with him, and how to go upon doing that.
Thanks in advance.

Well, if your gear allows you to teleport through the durance, you could try going for mephisto. Or pindleskin (don't know whether his buddies are cold immune, though, as I don't have to care about immunities). there's also the Mausoleum (below bloodraven) and Ancient tunnels (in Lost city); IIRC one of them is filled with lightning immunes, but no cold immunes.

my wife likes to run up a big credit card bill during a month and then yell at me at the end of the month when I take her entire paychecks to pay the bill... leaving her with zero money... as I tell my wife... plan ahead, you had your fun now it's time to pay the piper... all the good spots to mf hell are full of cold immunes... you are basically stuck with act bosses, except for pindle which is cold immune about 40% of time... which leaves you andy and meph... at level 70ish I doubt you are ready for baal, heck you may not be ready for meph.... make a new character and this time don't put all you apples in one basket... you can get away with it in normal and nightmare, but then you end up at months-end, in hell, without the skills to do what you want
PS. my wife isn't talking to me today because we got the bill and I took her check... which is OK... it's sci-fi night... lol

What are you talking about? I've found TONS from mausoleum, maggot lair and ancient tunnels. Maggot lair lvl 3 is an ilvl 88 area, and so is mausoleum and ancient tunnels, so in other words, theyre just like pits, but no cold immunes except for some unique monsters.
P.s. equip your merc good to take care of CIs

I have both a fire and blizz sorc. I use ice in areas where most are fire immune and make a new game with the fire sorc to go to the other areas where most are cold imune. Fire is great against Andy, but Blizz is better against mephy. You can do Ancients tunnels with your cold sorc with no trouble. The fire sorc is clvl 85 and the blizz sorc is clvl81. I have only ran into pendle being fire imune about a dozen time but no more than that so far.

Ancient tunnels (in the lost city, act 2) has no natural cold immunes (only occasional bosses) so that should give you a little something else to do.
Pindleskin's followers (him and the defiled guardians he spawns with) arent cold immune normally (pindle can spawn CI, his guardians are poison immune) but the ones that get up outside the covered area are all cold immune.
As for the merc thing... ive got a level 85 act2 merc, and if yours is only doing around 300 damage, you should be looking into improving its equipment as soon as possible.
Mines doing around 400-1200 damage using a reapers toll, and thats with a holy freeze aura so theres no other boosts.
Mercs are best only used when they have plenty of life leech items so they can survive on their own steam without you feeding them loads of potions.
In that regards, look into getting a 200-400 damage weapon (higher the better) and socket it with an amn or perfect skull to get some life leech on the weapon. Look to getting something like a rockstopper (resists and damage reduction) or a tals mask (10% life leech) for the helmet, and just get a high defence as possible (getting some 600+ defence stuff shouldnt be too hard even in nightmare, just look for some decent etheral stuff, it'll drop eventually)

I would have to say either get some better stuff so you can do meph, or get your merc some better stuff. My blizz sorc's merc kills cold immunes no problem (2k dmg) and almost never dies (50% dmg reduction and 21% life leech).
I pretty much used my cold sorc meph only, just use the moattrick on him, works like a charm, I've also done about 50 pindleruns with meteorb sorc and I've only seen him cold immune 4 times or so (might not have been paying attention). A good merc really helps, when some random boss monster spawns fire/cold immune my merc can handle him with ease.
