I've got a feeling I know the answer to this (i.e. no) but ill ask still to get peoples opinions.

I'm currently running with around 225 MF, maybe a little more (I havent counted charms and things) and tend to get lots of rares dropping from bosses, but very few uniques.

I know increased MF increases the chance to convert rares to uniques, but is it really noticable ?

Would 400-600 MF drop more uniques in any given drop on a regular basis, or is it still the majority of items being rares, with occasional uniques.

Currently ive got enough killing power to survive well enough with my current setup (mid 60's resists with 75 lightning, plus fast cast for my sorc) but increasing my MF is going to severely affect my survivability (the majority of the build is based around the wizardspike for resists and FC... I've got an occulus to use, but I die a lot more using it, plus adding more MF items cuts into my equipment)

Do people really notice a difference as the amount of MF increases.

(i'm sure the old adage of more runs with speed rather than slower runs with MF gives the best rewards applies, but still, it never hurts to ask)

If by putting more Mf on your char means that it will drastically decrease your killing speed, then its not worth it..

I find around 300+to be a good amount for most chars if they still need to kill efficient...Ive tried several chars with 600+, and Imo it doesnt help at all

As Cujo says, it's more important being a killing machine than having a huge mf, but having both is the best. Take in mind that mf doesn't work on "drop" rolls, just on "drop quality" rolls; this means that you might kill 100 Meph alone, and you get little uniques because he has a big chance of rollong a "no drop", where mf won't help you at all; on the other hand, if you kill him in full games (ie, Baalruns), the "no drop" chance in very low, so your mf will work much better.

Anyway, don't get obsessed about mf, and just enjoy gaming and chasing items  But 200-300% will help, and won't hurt your killing powah :p

The more runs you do, the more you'll notice the difference. Short term, you probably won't really notice at all. In the long term you'll notice a much larger difference.

I'll just add that I agree with the others. It's less about how good your drops are per run and more about how good your drops are per unit time. In other words, if it takes you 20 minutes to do a run with 1000% MF and only 2 minutes to do a run with 200% MF, you'll probably be more successful with the lower magic find.

IMO it's also important to know that MF in its unaltered form is used only with respect to magical (blue) items. The chance for rares, set items and uniques is calculated in a way that rising MF from 0 to 100 has a greater effect than rising it from 200 to 300.

Rares: True MF = MF*600/(MF+600)
Sets: True MF = MF*500/(MF+500)
Uniques: True MF = MF*250/(MF+250)

If it hurts your killing power, then use weapon switch. They gave us two slots why not use them. Swap out your wiz and w/e shield for a rhyme and an ali baba. When you kill that will add roughly 110MF (depending on lvl). So whenever your just about to kill the last sliver of life on meph, andy, pindle or w/e then switch it up.

in my experience mf determines the Magic-Unique quality of the drop (blue, yellow, unique) getting the higher quality items your looking for like a harlequin or a maras is all determined by blind luck. today i did 50 runs on a sorcie with roughly 250% mf and found a shako off meph. on my other sorcie with about 400% mf i did about the same number of runs and found nothing. i did get around the same number of uniques and drops just nothing id consider of great quality.

btw i consider a run to be andy, meph, eldritch and pindle all in one game.
