I got lucky and found a Storm Shield last night with my sorc, i have a 63 hameradin that is in need of a shield. What do you guys like better?

definitely HoZ! It is one of the most valuable and useful paladin items, and it's a shame not to use it. Especialy for a Hammerdin, the +4 Hammer is very nice on top of other things...

seconded! the HoZ will make your hammers do ~2k more damage... that's a lot! also, your hammerdin shouldn't have so many points in strength that he can actually wear a SS anyway. :D

Yeah that was a big turn off to the SS...just checked his strength...86...yeah that pretty much made my mind up. I didn't know it made my hammer do THAT much more. Anybody have HoZ for trade? :uhhuh:

I have one, and it's part of my grail, but since I'm missing a SS also, it seems fair, since you're gonna actually use it.
I don't have any paladins, and I dislike the idea of hammerdins, but I'll help you out if you want.

Well, many have already said this, but I'm going to reiterate: for paladins HoZ is worth it. Basically, it gives you enough resists that you can afford to get DR from your armor *shaftstop* instead of from your shield. It also gives you a massive skill boost, perhaps the largest boost from a single item (ok, there are some that give like +3 accross the board, but still). You just can't be without that... though it is a shame that paladins consequently usually don't want to use SS.

The only paladin I have ever made whose end game shield was NOT an HoZ is my Smiter, and even then I could have used one (upgraded of course). Seriously, if you can get your hands on one, it's the best shield available, hands down. I'd run late Act 3 NM (Kurast and up) for one.

Mang S/Jong's Lesson (some staff, dunno how' it's spelt) gives +5 to all, unless you're talking compared to how much space it takes up.. then astreon's is competition, but HoZ still adds a bit more [Astreon's gives 4 to a single skill tree, meanwhile hoz gives 2 to all skills and 2 to combat skills]

Mang Song's is also 2 handed so no HotO on top of the HoZ, and yes the HoZ is still the best paladin shield except for a few cases where Exile is better (mainly for Zealots).

I didn't know that :surprise: So I actually found something rare :lol:

Anyway, the +skills on HoZ is what helps it win over the SS for a hammerdin.

PvP Zealots IMO, as you still cannot get better than HoZ - perhaps with the exception of Exile.

I like SS better than HoZ for the off-the-shelf fanatic zealot. He's got so stinkin' much ED from skills that dropping the HoZ doesn't hurt TOO much and it's nice to free up the armor for other things (usually MF) and still have max PDR.

You sure can't beat HoZ for caster or elemental builds, though.

Precisely - for a paladin who is rather shield dependent, Mang Song's isn't too useful. Also you can then use Astreon's + HoZ for even more skills, or even something worse (any unique pally weapon gives some +skills, enough most likely when combined with HoZ to make up for Mang Song's Lesson's extra skills).

I prefer HoZ. I used it with my HC Avenger and it rockz. SS is a great shield too, but for a paladin HoZ is better. Especially if you can get the DR from elsewhere. Like Shaftstop+Strings of Ears.

I've found 5 stormshield. No Hoz.
