My first Bonemancer

I finally started a Bonemancer just to see how one would play and I can honestly say I am impressed with the build. It is currently at level 53 in Act IV NM. I am still working on max-ing the synergies, but the right now Bone Spirit is laying waste to everything it touches. I found a public game Sunday night with a group of people that didn’t seem to mind the build and we quested most of the way to Act IV. I actually found myself out in front most of the time doing quite a bit of the killing.

So far my gear looks like this:

Peasant Crown
Rare Ammy - +1 Necro & misc mods
Viper magi
White bone wand – +3 P&b, +3 Bone Spirit, +2 Bone Spear
Night Smoke
Homunculus
2 rare rings – 10% FCR on each & misc mods.
Trang gloves
Sander’s boots

This gives me 75 all res in NM, 75% chance to block and 90% FCR. Still need to get try and get to 120% FCR. I know how people will react in NM Baals, so I don’t have much hope for leveling fast but right now it’s a very fun build.

No question. I'm just saying it's a build I've never played before and I'm enjoying it.

Glad to hear your having fun with the outcast of builds TM.

I upgraded my nightsmoke on my CL sorc who is at same level and the extra 4 slots is well worth it as I think it is still a pretty darn useful belt.

Try for a white with +3 spear instead of spirit.
I've found spear to be MUCH more useful later on, and it won't get cries of "TPPK!!!!!!!!!!!!!111111" quite as often. Oh, and rail gun is much cooler than silly white sphere dealie.
But yeah, they are an amazingly fun build, because there's so many different ways to kill things.

EDIT: ONLY times I ever used spirit:
Act bosses
Pindle (DV his friends, spirit him, faster and safer runs than any trapper I've played)

I didn't even use it against stragglers (ie 2 monsters left on screen) because although it does higher damage and should theoretically kill them faster, it travels so slow that for the most part spear would finish them off just as fast.

I only use spirit when they are running around like crazy, other than that spear is better: it pierces and hits multiple targets, and flies faster. If you want more spear, just shop for +3 spear wand at act2 normal and make another white. Forget hoto, white can give +8 spear (3 bone skills +5spear), hoto only gives 3.
Are you going to use the marrow bug? It adds a ton of damage literally. Just in case if you don't know, the bug doesn't work if you have any hard points in prison.

I made one in the first 1.10 ladder, if you have the gear it's one mean mother! And like said in the previous post i tended to use the spear rather then the spirit, exept for when i was doing solo baalruns, but only to finish of baal himself.

If you dont need the cast rate from a viper, use shaft and shako, T-gods for sure. Just a combatnecro, no skells, maybe a clay golem and a decent merc, there's nothing in the game that can stop you.

You actually do pindle with boner? And what's DV, trying to think of all skills but I don't get it. Bit afraid of pindle now because I've lost 2 guys by 1 hit KO from the minions and the guys outside, other with like 1000hp and eshield other with 1300hp (trapper), but I was cursed both times...

I too am making a boner, TM. I'm with these guys, spear is the way to go. The piercing is what sells it for me. I used a skill calc, and I think my endgame damage came out to be 4.2K spear, and 4.5K spirit. If I hit just 2 measly guys, I come out way ahead with spear. I think spear must ramp up faster in damage once pumped beyond slvl 20 than spirit does, and the 7% vs. 6% synergy helps too.

So far I am level 70, having maxed bonewall, spear, and teeth. Really, teeth is the sleeper skill of the build. It does 700 now, endgame it should do about 1.2K... not a ton but it hits every blessed monster on the screen (carver camps and flayer swarms come to mind). If only teeth was like charged bolt and could hit a monster multiple times per cast, man you could point blank a monster for like 30K damage. :drool: I'm specifically choosing boneshade just to get more points to teeth. BTW, nice white wand ... that's great for both skills. :)

Boners seem to have the same advantage that hammerdins have .. immunities to you are rare (although you cannot pierce undead magic imm's like a hammerdin can). And spear is a heck of a lot easier to use than BH. 1000 hp of recastable life rocks too.

Yep Terry, the only way your build will be worth a damn is if you start botting and trading for dupes..... :) :drink:

Confuse pwns!

Spear is the better skill IMO, it doesnt burn the mana and can put out much more damage per second. My Boner last year never drank pots using Spear but always had to drink using Spirit. Still used it for bosses though!

that white wand he got is very good would have been godly if it was +decripify too.
if you got some poison bone charms you can up corpse explosion to a decent level around 10 or so then you can really kill.
bonespear will have higher damage than spirit at high levels

In pvm I wouldn't even fuss with with seeking spirit on a wand, the damage between the two is so close that I would almost always go with spear for the pierce and fast velocity.

An ideal pvm white for me would be +3 spear, and then bonuses to other utility skills that I would like to have, but don't want to spend the points on prereqs to get. Revive, SM and LR come to mind, as well as attract. Just a 1 point wandmod to revive/SM, and your skill adders would give you a lot of hardy tanks to hide behind (and is a new fun tactic, to break the monotony of spamming boneskills 24/7).

Clay golem tanks well but I am finding that one summon is not enough to draw all monsters.

PvP, yeah I presume spirit would be ideal because the tracking is a more persistent threat to your opponent than an easily dodged spear.

I read your wand as the +2 spear being the +2 that comes with white by default, one or two others seem to be reading it as +3/+2 and THEN whited for +4 spear...just sort of curious as to which it is?

It started out as a +3 spirit and +2 spear two socket wand.

btw, I went home at lunch and killed NM Diablo with no issues. Spear worked wonders on the crowds and spirit had it's way with Diablo. :thumbsup:

I am also starting one, though not really advancing him until i find the right wand. Speaking of which, while "Walking" to hell baal i found a white (as in normal item) wand with +3 Spear/+3 Spirit/+2 CE, i immediatly TP'd to town as i knew i had a socket quest still left.
I was just about to socket it when i realised that the wand was the Exceptional version of a Wand (Burnt?) and proceded to check arreat for how many socket's it would receive. To my dismay it can only have one socket. I was not best pleased i can tell you and took my vengance out on poor baal, who inturn dropped me 4 nice blue items.
I'm looking forward to seeing how he does, i always do melee and a caster would be nice for a change of pace.

Having traded for them for my summoner, I was amazed at the huge difference in dmg added just with a few points in relevant bone skills.

I could only imagine the carnage if you were a pure bonecro.

My Boney used a Wizzy and killed very well, so any +skills from the waond will only make it more effective. I didn thave the gear to cover my cast rates or I would of used a different wand so I went for speed and lessor damage.

I want to make one so bad, but as long as TPPK is still working i find it a bit pointless. I made my last one late last season and was chastized in public. I dont blame ppl, but if I cant take it publicly there isnt much point in making one.

What Stimm said. The first person with map hack will scan the gear and see the bone set up and scream TPPK. And that label will follow where ever I go. :rant:
