Hey all,

Welcome to the offical OT thread of the Druid forum! Sit back, relax, and hang out with the cool kids. We druids are known for being friendly, just stop in and say hi, we would love to hear from you. You can talk about anything -- music, life, girls, other games, or just hang out and meet the vets. Anything and everything is game, just no talking about the game.

Oh, and don't get out of line or else we leave you in strid's pit. Trust me, you don't want that. Welcome to the Druid OT Renaissance!

HISTORY OF DRUID OT

Recently some have speculated that druid OT was dying, that it had gotten stale, spammy, and boring. Some even speculated my demodding would end the druid forum as we know it.

Silly nublets. At the onset of this Druid OT revival, let me remind you all of the history of druid OT. Long ago when the world was young, the Druid forum had no mod. Most of the veterans at the time argued strongly for not having a mod (including me, kirsty, baranor, mastavic, fenrisWULF, proud, mep, strid, and others). The problem was when trolls came to harass us, the mods were often horribly slow to respond and delete it.

One day in a stupor of drunken rage, Fenriswulf, Strid, and others decided to take moderating justice into thier own hands. The self named "natures brownies" converged on a trolling, flaming thread and began to flirt with the troll and make hilarious jokes. The bewildered trolls ran away screaming, never to return. From then on, the brownies began viciously team seducing any and all trolls to enforce the rules of the forum.

Unfortunately, some of the younger pups got carried away and OT took over the forum. To keep OT in control while still allowing the members to manly bond with each other, the "official" OT threads were started. Druid OT became a part of our tradition, and druids are now known for hilarious OT as much so and we used to be known for being friendly and helpful. Our tradition continues today, alive and well no matter what some haters think.

"Garbadic" OT Rules

I made these rules with you all long ago, so I will restate them.


The first goal of this forum is to be welcoming to others. If you start getting cliquish, if you start flaming new people, the threads will end.
Don't let OT choke out the regular posts. If people start ignoring onT questions and spamming, it gets locked. I never said the rule that every thread has to get at least 1 response (proud started that), but its a good rule.
No Racism. Ever. EVER! As you know, nothing ticks me off more. I am pretty lenient about most things, but if I see someone make a rice joke or whatever, be ready for a buttkicking. My mod stick is weak and limp, but not totally impotent yet.
Thou shalt not take out your personal problems in the OT thread. Don't come here to fight, complain, or whine. Thats why we have the pvp forum.

TOPICS TO AVOID

As mentioned before, you can talk about anything. However, some topics stir people up more than others. Be extra careful when talking about these subjects because people tend to get worked up.

I think dune was one of the best sci fi books ever. Great book. The movies and sequels arent good though. Some are ok, but about the same quality as like a star trek novel -- only worth reading if you have time to waste.

And Proud, a bit ago you said Douglas Adams>Terry Pratchett. I would have to say yes and no. The HHGTTG series is good but short. Discworld is an ongoing endevor.

I'm not much for serious hardcore fantasy series... I read Anne Rice for quite a bit, but I guess Im a necro for a reason.

I still think anyone who likes RPGs should try Wizardry 8, the best RPG I've ever played. The best part is its possible to win with any combinations of characters that you can think of. Its possible to win at level 11 or 50, or with 1 character or 8. Truely an open ended game. Even though its a conclusion to a series, its a great play alone, too. Go check it out.

It started with the three of us mocking a player with sexual innuendos because he had flamed druid. This involved us bragging about how much larger our vines were compared to a Barbarian's vine.

Hilarious, that was the entire point of the original OT threads. Glad they no longer serve their original point whatsoever. Maybe not fight, but complaining and whining about personal problems was a major point of the threads. Of course I guess that was when everyone actually cared about each other... We actually had quite a time for awhile when the OT threads started degrading into what they are, we had a "rule" about not making posts shorter than two lines to try and battle it for awhile (and most of you were here for that). We only wanted posts that discussed a topic, or started the discussion of a topic.

The book/author talk is a good example of a decent topic at the moment.

Sounds like it. I don't know bout Patrick Stewart(sp?), though. Didn't know him then... hell, that's about 20 years ago... I guess I was ten when i saw it for the first(erm, probably also the last time)
I forgot who asked... but the book was considered far superior to the movie, by some - and too detailed for it's own good by me. also known as: TOO LONG.

I freely admit I am not nice, never have been nice, and will not be nice in the future. I don't like anyone, but I am fair enough to dislike everyone equally. Unless the name is green or blue, in which case I like you greatly. With limited exceptions.

Ah, women. Can't live with em, can't live without em.

So about 3 weeks ago I bump into a girl I knew, one thing leads to another, she spends the night at my place. The next night she comes over again, and bam next thing I know I have a roommate. I didn't really intend it that way, but when the toothbrushes and such started filtering over, I knew it was ggkty. Unfortunately....

First, like every girl she is always cold. For a small girl, she somehow manages to hog all the sheets and pillows. I bought an extra pillow and blanket and they were promptly absorbed as well. Where they go, I have no idea, just I don't get any.

She also sleeps at a 45 degree angle, so she effectively covers the whole bed. I have a twin bed or whatever the small one is, so its pretty hard to balance on the small corners I have left.

She is also a night person like no other. Like 4 am is peak hours for her and she finds ways to keep me up. Now, I have 8 am classes, law school. They don't have a lot of sympathy for the bleary eyed or unprepared. I haven't really messed up yet, but its unlikely I can maintain my class standing on 3 hours a sleep a night. -_-

She is also a really small girl, about 5'2" 94 lbs. I am about 6' 195. Big deal right? WRONG. If I try to lean on top of her or roll on her in the night, she can't breathe and wakes up in a panic. She also sleeps on her back, btw.

So you combine all those factors together and I am sleeping sporadically, if at all, sleeping at a strange and cramped angle with no pillow or sheets, sleeping with a fear of crushing someone to death in my sleep, and with the fear of failing out of school and ending up on the unemployment lines to boot. Not good sleep at ALL! I wake up each morning tired and with my back killing me.

So this weekend comes and she is going out of town, and I admit it, I was glad. I was pumped to get a good nights sleep at long last. So the first night she is gone......I sleep awfully, barely get any sleep at all. And now I miss her horribly.

Heres to crappy sleep conditions for the rest of my life :winner: Cant live with em.....Cant live without em.

I saw the first Dune movie and read the book and thought they were pretty good compared to each other (chose the book for a school report actually)

I don't know that I would recommend the book. It is very weird in places and tedious. I really would not recommend a Star Trek novel unless you have nothing better to do simply because the writers of these novels make a habit of writing out-of-character behavoir. Avoid Peter David, he is a big noob.

If you want something different to read, look up "The Deathworld Trilogy" by Harry Harrison(sp?)

Thats what I liked to know. In the stickied thread that was deleted a mod(might have been frygia) mentioned in passing that he/she had to ban one person "around this part of the forum" or something vague like that. I personally like a channel(can you call them channels? :scratch: )called digitally imported chillout or something like that. Not too agressive or mind consuming, usually soothing and plain. Good to listen to while you are posting here or playing D2, doesn't work too well with doom 3 though. :D

Do you mean the USA team has had internal problems compromising the continued play of the NHL stars? I know finlands team has had them since it was in the news that Niininmaa(IIRC) has left because of Summanen.

I predict a classical finnish game, finland scores 2-3 goals during the first two periods and start going defensive before the end of the second period or in the third period and USA gets the upper hand. I don't know how many goals will be scored after that but I hope Kiprusoff has a good game since much will hinge on it.

What a crappy day. Yesterday evening I got to hear from a friend that a girl in our class will get deported in 2 weeks. At the time my small head didnt really get it. But today when I got to school it hit me. After I'd been there a while, she came to the lockers and it was a burst of emotion that hit all of us. The girls called two newspaper that came and interviewed her and the class, and took some pictures. Hopefully they'll do a big article in both.
The sick thing is that they fled here from Albania two years ago, Lina(not the real name of the girl, but whatever) have learned perfect swedish and is excellent in all other classes too. Her father is a civil engineer(dont think thats the right word, but whatever) and her mother is a veterineer. They recen´tly had a daughter, now nine months old.
They moved here after her father which was a politician refused to sign some paper, and the ones involved started to threat them over the phone, a time later, her brother was murdered, only 13 years old. Thats when they descided to move to Sweden. The goverment didnt say no then, but they waited for them to get a life, friends and so on. I am so ****ing mad, we all are, and the worst thing is that we cant do anything about it, the whole class will write one letter each, trying to get her to stay, but imo the chance of her getting to stay is equal to zero.
So now she is waiting to get deported, fearing for her life, fearing that the evil ones haven't forgot. Fearing that she or one of her familymembers will be the next one to be tossed from a balcony.
The goverment have no reason to toss them out, but apparently they think that they have no reason to stay either.
I dont know why they cant see that Lina have a future here, and so does her highly educated parents, and her sister.
Gah, **** the goverment, I had no idea it was this bad with the immigration in this country. To them they are deporting a name on a paper that is hard to pronounce.

Oh, and I didnt give a crap about the star rule in this post.
Bleh, going to try to write that letter now, have no idea what I am going to write, as I know nothing is going to make it better.

Have they got a lawyer? This case doesn't sound that bad, they ought to be able to prove all of what they've lived through. Someone must have had a really bad day when he decided to give an ok to deportation.

So I pull out blacks law dictionary, cant find it, then use westlaw, then google. Finally I look back, and the word is 'dumping' not 'dum ping.'

i just checked up the matrix website (been so long), anyways i heard about the matrix online in the works a few months ago, i completely forgot about it, until now. i find it interesting how the game continues off the story of the matrix trilogy, just for that, got me interested. the gameplay is not bad as well, but i am definately hooked on WoW. Guild Wars failed in my books. Its unfortunate, really.

We are trying too, media was the first step, a group of people are going to the migration bureau to give them all the letters and try to talk to them. The best hope she got, I guess, is to tell her story again. As the first time she told about it they had a translator who didnt speak their language fluidly, so the fact that Lina got threads that they would take her away and make her a prostitute in Italy and so on didnt get through, so maybe. But it is not very likely.
We are also going to try to get her a lawyer, but as it is a small town, not many lawyers have practice here. Maybe if they want some publicity they'll take the case but that depends on if the newspaper makes a big deal out of it or not.
Oh well, one day at a time trying our best, and maybe...
