View Full Version : + Offensive Skills for Paladin Item works for Merc?
As titled
I am not sure if my rare circlet with + 2 offensive skils really adds skills to my offensive act 2 merc who uses might aura.
I got a rare circlet with +2 offensive skill / +25% enhanced damage / 3% ll / some resist / +39 life. I am wondering if it should be used before my merc can use a tal mask.
Then a similar question, a gris armour works for act 2 defensive merc in terms of his defensive aura?

AFAIK mercs only benefit from items that give a bonus to all skills (not just for a certain class or skill tree).
Even if it were be different, a nm defensive merc actually has on offensive aura. Gris armor still is a good choice for a merc because it has not too bed defense, adds +20 to strength and has 3 sockets as well.
I somehow recall that act 5 barbarian might take advantage of +barbarian skills items, though my memory could be wrong and actually they can just use barbarian specific helms.
The thing is if + paladin skills help act 2 merc's aura, the benefit is more than normal in the sense that I share the enhanced aura from the merc also, which is more important than + skill effect on other merc. + 2 skill on merc aura could translate to + quite some % ed on me, I think.

Nah, act 2 mercs can't take advantage of pally items, I just checked, I dressed him with a guardian angel and his damage didn't go up,
however when I dressed him with a vipermagi, his damage did go up. A guardian angel gives 1 to pally skills, and
vipermagi gives 1 to all skills, so apparently all skills does help act2 merc auras.

What about skill boosting items that are NOT to all skills, but will help all classes. I'm thinking of a hexfire I put on a3 fire thrower, back when it was 1.09
I supposed I can check the length of his Inferno, for changes.

I recall this being discussed before in length, and certain skill tree enhancers help certain mercs that aren't necessarily in that class. For example, a + warcries will help an act 3 light merc, or something like that. If you do a few searches, you should find this.
That was a bug, and has been fixed in 1.10.
Only +all skills, and +particular skill that the merc uses works now. Also, +fire skills will help an act 3 fire merc. Act 2 mercs aren't able to wield anything that can help their specific aura (ie +Might only spawns on pally shields and sceptres) or their attack (which is Jab, and +Jab only spawns on Zon items).
Act 5 mercs can wear Barb helms, so they should be able to benefit from +Bash or +Stun, except that Blizzard introduced a new bug in 1.10 that stops those skills from spawning on Barb helms.

So, if a barb helm has + all barb skills, or + combat skills, will that help barb merc? Anyone think of a way to test that? Length of stun?
No, only if it has + to the specific skill, or +to all skills.
1.09 barb helms could spawn +Bash or +Stun, so non-ladder act 5 mercs can benefit from those.
