View Full Version : Cookie-Cutter Druid?

After finding a number of useful Druid stuff (full Aldurs, Fleshrenders, Gravel of Pain, Earthshaker, etc) I decided why not use all that junk? What I am asking is there a "cookie cutter" druid build out there? I ran through the guides in the stickies, but nothing really struck out as I never really did Druids.

A wind druid is (IMHO) a cookie-cutter druid, all the information is in fenris's guide although you don't need to follow it in every word.

hmm that sounded good, but what about shape-shifters, since I got Jalals Mane and all.

wind druids are prolly best all around, but wolfs can also dish out some good damage, my vote is for a windy, they pwn ^ ^

Hmm, also forgot to mention this build will be strictly PvM,hmm maybe wind is right for me, but I don't have a hoto and the nigma I am usin is for my hammerdin.

Depends if you are aiming for PvP or PvM.
For PvM a regular fury druid might be good, for PvP the first that comes to mind is a fireclaw bear.
If you have trouble finding info on these, ask.
edit: As I said you don't have to have all the stuff the guide says unless you want to breeze through everything. Even with mediocre gear the cookies get cut with this build. ;)

Fury Wolf is easily the simplest. I'm going to see if I can find my archaic Mini-Guide for Wolves from 1.09 and see how that looks...
Edit: Too archaic. Basically, use TheDragoon's calculator to get at least a 6-frame Fury, aiming for 5-frame with a two-hander (good balance for PvM), then max Werewolf, Lycanthropy, Fury, and the rest into Feral Rage and minions.

Do you think that a wearwolf/Werebear would make a good rusher? I already got my hammerdin for mfin, so I don't need that. Or would it be better to stay with wind? IMO wind druids seem overused and everything else underused, is there a reason why I don't see any werewolf/bear druids?

There are pros and cons,
-werebears or wolves can't teleport, even with enigma(you have to deshift)
+werebears and wolves usually have good life
+werewolves have feral rage to up their r/w speed
+werebears have shockwave which makes dodging monsters a lot easier

I've pretty mush excluded werebear. I don't think it necessarily has to be fast, just able to get it done, preferably norm and nm, as my hammerdin can handle hell rushes, it is just annoying to do (any difficulty). Hmm wind or werewolf. I don't think I am gonna get any more enigmas soon. I am tryin to finish up the hammerdin with ahoto and hearld, so my wealth is elsewhere. I think I'll go with werewolf, like as I said before wind is overdone.

I would say a werewolf/werebear would not make the best rusher. They have to get close to hit things, cannot teleport even with enigma, and will run into problems when there are physical immunes or fire immunes (if you're a fireclaw bear).
The best characters for rushing in my opinion are dual element sorcs and hammerdins.

For a Shifted Rusher I think a Rabies/FireClaws, or a Rabies/Furry would be best. I think there's a guide somewhere around.

Fury wolf druids make fine rushers. You can teleport, just deshift and carry wiz + lidless on switch.

windy druids can use jalals, resists and +2 skills, and str/energy and fhr never hurt. YOu dont have to use shako just cause the guide sez so :D
Wind may be overdone for pvp, but wolfs are just as overdone for pvm :)

Well I ultamitly (wow I mauled that word) decided on the wind, I might come back and make a wolf if he doesn't work out, however I got some questions. Is tornado a physical attack, magic, or cold? If so I don't want a char with only one primary elemental attack type. Also I am just curious but if say I was wearing full aldurs on my druid and I shapedshifted, would I still glow as a wolf/bear or would that disappear?

Physical, you'd glow.
Please god don't use aldurs whatever you do. It's sucky for a windy, and its sucky for a wolf. The glow just isn't worth sucking IMO.
A windy has both physical and cold damage. Physical from nados(primary dmg dealer) and cold from hurricane. Most physical immunes have low hp so are easily killed with hurricane. If they are dual immune, then you need a reapers toll merc to break the phys immunity(or conviction from a pala I guess).
