I'm calling all rich hardcore gamers to get together and sponsor some poor gamers. There would be a list of rich and poor people on each realm and a poor person would pair up with a rich person and the rich person would do say, 25-30 meph runs for the poor person to give them a little boost in items. If anyone is interested in doing this with me let me know.

I would do it, but windows service pack 2 has put my computer out of commission... soooooo looks like im out for awhile.

A real nice idea LD. I did something like this last season where i would take an hour or so MF reciepts and give them to some random person that looked like they could use it.

Cy had a similar idea a while ago. A stickied thread where we can post items that aren't worth much to trade but are useful to people just starting. I thought this was a good idea but I think most people decided it would breed begging and other irritating effects. This idea seems good too and may bypass begging and the like.

Ya sure, I have lots of stuff no one seems to want so I'll be happy to give it away. But like Zounce says, it gets old when people start bad mouthing your items and say "GIB SHAKO NOOB" It's great when someone actually playing the game is grateful for Sigons.
I just started using a full Iratha's on a new char... (wo)man, that set rocks for beginners...
Add in a few bits n pieces of res elsewhere and that's 85 res all... 20 ias, half freeze time (can't have it all, I suppose) and free armour and weapon space.

Iratha's is amazing. It can take you all the way to nm act 5 no problem. I love that set! It's one of the more underrated combos out there.

I would happily participate. My best character died today though (lvl 35 Freezealot). Gogo lag death but oh well. As for now Id like to start up another char that could help MF for new guys/gals. As for sigs, irathas...I would have killed for 5s bow full of flawed topazes or something like it. Anyways, count me in. *zachs

well i'm down with this idea, although my mf sorc died about a month ago..so right now i am reinstalling and will be remaking another sorc, but i'm poor for the time being. once i get her up i can then switch over to the "big brothers" side of this.

Yeah, this sounds like a pretty good idea. I'm on West HCL and will probably do the runs tonight.

If anyone could help me out, I'd be most appreciative. Started playing again after a taking a year or so off. Playing an untwinked frenzy barb, HC on West ladder, and at clvl 34 am starting to run into trouble killing things due to the fact that my weapons are a Hellplague and a 3 socket sword w/ a flawless & normal skull and the rune that adds poison damage (can't remember the name). My two Cathan's rings help so that I almost never need to drink pots (except when I fought the Ancients), but killing takes quite a while and I'm sure I'm going to be in trouble when I head into NM.
If any kindly soul would be willing to help, I'll be on after 8 PM CST, *bp101

Hehe, republican? Actually I agree. Giving frees is about the worst thing you can do for a new player. Teach em how to get it. Sponsorship should be teaching how to play and how to profit.
OTOH that takes time, effort and personal involvement. Giving items is easier by comparison.

Well, I love giving out free stuff to random people... I usually make a game called something like "free junk," so nobody thinks I'm giving away shakos :D And even better, I love giving stuff I find to friends who I know can use it.
Generally, though, I dislike the attitude that you need fancy gear to play this game.... Stinger's due to chime in any minute now with a brilliant and well-considered rant on how to play this game untwinked, so I won't elaborate :flip:
(((Of course, a couple of the folks on this forum have given me some free stuff recently, so maybe I shouldn't talk at all :D )))

No, I am not Republican. My point was that this game is easy, and I don't like the idea of beginners riding off of the hard "work" (playing Diablo II is really god damn hard) of other people. Fun is still able to be had with gear that you found yourself, and eventually you can find/trade for your own gear so you can be extremely 1337 just like the rest of us. I gave away stuff that I didn't need all the time, and saved stuff for friends a lot as well. Free stuff is okay, but there is no reason to try to organize giveaways so that people who don't know how to play the game never really learn. I hate when people who are obviously newbs ask me to rush them or to give them items or to teach them how to run a bot. Play through the game before you get rushed, and find your own items before you start taking offers from high level twinked people. When I first got this game, shooting 10 bone spears to kill one Urdar with my lame bone/summon/curse/melee/etc necro was incredibly awesome. Now that I've played for a long time, I make an MF sorc, equip it well, and then I wait until I have almost every item I need before creating another character. Otherwise I get kind of bored. Now I kind of lost track of what I was saying here, but my point is that I hate beggars on Diablo II almost as much as I hate people who collect unemployment checks because they're too lazy to go get a job.

Wouldn't the fact that this thread is about people playing Hardcore indicate that yes, they have played through the game and yes, they do know how to play?

I agree with all this but I have more extra items than chars and why not help someone else start up that titan barb or melee sorc or 43rd hammerdin? I can always tell the people who are genuinely happy to get a couple of Sigon's pieces and as corny as it sounds, I get a little satisfaction out of helping someone out. Now when the "GIB ITEMS PLZ" starts is when I leave.
Well, i think we can safely scratch 0taku off the list of potential donors
Maybe we should add some requirement for the sponsored, like maybe a death screenshot from within the past week?

Otherwise I would give items to the right people. I don't mind giving items to someone who just lost their only char they spent a long time mfing with and gearing, but donating to random poor people who have yet to learn how to play the game is really lame. And believe it or not, there are many people who play hardcore and don't know how to play. I've encountered countless examples in my DII career. They are all people who have friends who tell them "SC is *** man play HC". I too tell this to my friends (sans homophobia), but I don't tell them to try to get all the good items and only play the best char types.

I find that I do better wearing junk than I do wearing good equip.
The fun thing about junk is that you can almost tailor build to suit your char using rares. Uniques and sets are Blizz's drunken attempt at designing your chars for you. I mean look at some of the reqs - Arctic gloves are lvl 3 and need 45 str ... what char has 45 str at lvl 3? Then necro wands with leech ... who hits with a 4-9 dmg wand with a lvl 28 req?

HC is all about dieing and starting over, most players are not new to the game, forummembers included.
Sooo, i play on Europe and I will make an account with stuff that i dont use but can be usefull for others (members).
And i will give the accountname and password to the forummembers, so feel free to use or to donate.
Same i do with some (D2X)friends, we share some mule accounts.

Just to clear up the debate there is a difference between people begging for items because they suck and someone offering items to someone that isn't fortunate enough to have them. It seems that someone in this thread doesn't have a holiday spirit. If you don't want to donate to people then don't post here. Stop ruining my thread.

Big ups to miteg for helping out my poor barb who was stuck frenzying with skull-skull-tal longswords and now has much nicer slicing and dicing equipment. Thanks again! :)

Don't let it bug you, Otaku is actually a pretty nice guy in most of his posts, I think beggars are just one of his pet peeves and even though this thread is not promoting begging and you certainly did not beg it just still fell in his "I am gonna be pissy" catagory.
I think this is a cool idea myself and if I had better stuffs I would be happy to join in.
Oh, one pointer - collect and cube all the gems you can, there are always trade threads selling decent items for perfect gems and they are just laying about waiting for you to pick them up! I bought titans for 30 viper for 25 and a bunch of other nifty things for lesser numbers (lol, lost the titans and viper but hey, I can get more gemsies!)
Also +9 max jewels at lvl 8 will trade if you get a bunch of them.
ID every rare you find, some of them are better than uniques - and never pass a wand or orb whatever their color. Circlet type hats can also roll some insane mods so scoop them all up too (if all else fails sell them for gambling cash) :jig: I looooove gambling!!!
Now that's sponsorship! No one will want for good items if they follow that advice.

I dunno - I have been asked botting questions and I have not even the slightest clue about any of that stuff. I think he means the random people who see your high level char dressed in a rattlecage and think it must be tals therefore you must be a botxor.
I get asked lots of weird questions though so I generally pay them no mind.
CX - pick up a bunch of gems an you can usually find titans for sale on the trader page - I paid 30 perfs for mine. I think that is actually my next itam gathering strat. Skip the MF'in go GF'ing .... it is alot cheaper to equip a gemfinder than a magicfinder and it is less of a let down when you see that rare kracken shell hit the floor and think "if I only had 1 more 7smfc!!!"

Gem finding is only profitable in hell difficulty. But then you need good resists / some killing power to blast thru hell. Chicken & egg problem?
d'oh false alarm, found my soj switch i thought expired with my other mules and outfitted my zon quite nicely. but i'll still take items if you wanna give em to me! ^.^

actually my pos blizz sorc found that on norm diablo (hehe valar) and i put on mule, then later the blizz sorc died and luckily i got her gear.pretty good stuff, skullders occy liddless and the like, but i was pissed so i'd only bother looking at the mules and renewing them when i had nothing better to do so they expired and i thought the soj was on there.(i was playing Scnl the whole time, go go trapsin hammerdin and fb sorc ;) ) then i found it and well...here i am!

Dunno if an organized form of handouts will work but there are lots of people giving stuff on the realms (europe at least). Games like Free4U and free4noobs pop up all the time.
Edit: As a barb with no MF char i sometimes join up with MF sorc and bo'em. I usually get a lot of nice stuff they don't want/need since most are only looking for shako/storm or equal.

Well, at the moment i'm doing a tonne of normal cow runs on Europe with my 94 sorc and I only pick up the charms/jewels (in hopes of some being useful for my up and coming 16 pally ^^), plenty of sigons and various other sets drop regularly so if anyone on europe wants to run around with me whisper *JuK
I know it's not quite hell mephing for poor people, but it's something right?

I don't understand what you're saying here. My point was the people who just started the game shouldn't be running bots (not that people who have been playing for a long time should either), not that I told them I knew how to run a bot (although I have downloaded bots before and I don't understand how anybody could get confused by it)

hi guys im all for helping out any new or poor players however im not some uber rich bloke who stashs shakos and cant remember how many enigmas he has im starting a new enchantress tonight and any items you think could help me that you could donate would be greatly accepted.
Im also in possession of a couple of mules of items from normal andi and meth stuff like arctic set ithras set and most common low drop set items and uniques if anyone needs something in particular please message me ill be on from about 20:00hrs uk time
