View Full Version : Best inexpensive weapons for a mid-level shockadin?

OK, so I've of course looked at the pally forum and the guides, but they basically say things like "botd" or "doom" or "crescent moon phase blade" or other things I don't have and can't get for a while :D

So what are a couple of decent, *inexpensive* weapons for a shockadin (using zeal, of course)? My back-up skill is holy freeze. Currently, I'm still using Stormeye at level 55  with an Ali Baba for MFing. I'd like to replace the Stormeye, obviously. Suggestions?

Honor knout would be a good cheap choice. It has a good base speed (more holy shock hits), solid physical damage, ar boost, life steal, and 1 all skills. Amn El Ith Tir Sol in 5 socket melee weapons.

I would second the crescent moon phase blade. Potent -35% enemy lightning resists, fast, static field, holy cow ... could there be a better weapon for that build?

Cresent Moon, Baeziels Vortex I belive has some lightning mods, and when all else fails anything wiht CB, ITD, and speed will do well. I kind of like the Honor Knout, or Holy Thunder, or even Black Knot. Holy Thunder I made once, and that was an expensive repair weapon so be warned!!!

I think a Phase wiht Crescent would be ideal to elemenat repairs for one, have great speed...etc.

The absolute best weapon here as far as effectiveness for it's dirt-cheapitude would hands down have to be 'Steel' Flail... ias, ar, +mana after kill is all you could really ask for in a cheap Shockadin weapon. You don't need physical damage or leech either.

EDIT: I've never tried it in a scepter because I'm pretty sure it doesn't work, but a 2-socket War Scepter with bonus to HolyShock/HolyFreeze/Zeal/HolyShield would be godly.

black is decent if you can afford it thul io nef has 40% crushing blow good for lower dmg melee builds (physical dmg that is). Strength is an even cheaper alternative (amn tir). Basically for a holyshocker/freezer you want +skills, crushing blow.

Thanks for the suggestions, all... I'd forgotten about Honor. That sounds like the way I'm going to go, assuming I can find the weapon. I may also have to give Black a try, since I have the runes for it.

Of course, Crescent Moon is the end-game ideal, but one needs to be in possession of an Um ;)

As the other posters suggested, Black is definitely a nice choice, and ios are not too hard to get. On the REALLY ghetto side, I've said it before and I'll say it again- Crushflange. Sure, you'll get laughs from the stupid scanner-fools. But it's reasonably fast, 33% CB, a nice little strength bonus, +50% Fire resists (!!!), and the knockback actually works out ok for zealing. The whole point here is 33% CB, and that your physical damage is essentially irrelevant most of the time. The only problem you run into is LI monsters, and that's not such a big deal to switch to a big damage pike, etc. Gogogo ghetto gear!

I have an Io, so Black is definitely an option... but... hmm... maybe a shael'd, upgraded Crushflange  That's a fun idea.

my untwinked shockadin made it through most of nightmare with a 2shael 3eth knout. fast and rarely misses, what more could a you want?

The Diggler!!!

 you know Mcsaladshaker, due to my wonderful luck with MFing, I've got about 100 of those, so free digglers to the first 100 customers at Nebby's Crap Shop! Head to Ebay now!

edit: and Lucky is right Zakarum's Hand is really nice. My HF pally used it for quite a well and did well with it. Only thing it lacks is the CB, and you've got a bunch o' ber runes hanging around, right? ;)

I suggest Zakarum's hand. If I'm correct it has mana leech, ITD, +2 holy freeze/shock, casts blizzard on striking, etc. It's a great little scepter.

I have a shockadin who is leveling towards a baesil's vortex. I hope it works well untill I get a better weapon.

Cheap and inexpensive would definately be the Honor Knout. Overall, adds the most damage to your attacks.

Black is a good option, but honestly, knockback is annoying when you're trying to hit all 5 times in a few monsters. If you need the crush, old gobo toes work wonders.

Steel Flails/Knouts are so cheap and so good. That open wounds is great fun when zaping and bleeding...

But for sure, honor knout is cheap and powerful. Go for it. Save your runes off of black, its not a good zealing weapon (except against act-end bosses)... so potential weapon switch against tougher targets.

yeah the knockback on black can be annoying.

If you are going towards FAST zeals, a nice pick would be angelic set.

I know this is what UNHOLY used on his classic frostzealot. Angelic full set has some nice bonuses, but you lose the armor slot which is best filled with a high-defense plate or something with good other mods. The best compromise for LoD would be angelic sword, ring, amulet. You get bad-*** attack rating, +1 skills, 30 ias, lots of life, and some other neat bonuses. Try it out! The only problem would be lack of leach and physical damage, but most of your damage will be coming from holy shock, right?

And yeah... crushflange is teh secks!

Another decent weapon is the Coldsteel Eye Cutlass.. Ennemy slow, cold damage, and a darn fast weapon!

when talking about honors go for the +3 holyshock divine scepter +4 skills and all. Divine > knout in nearly everyway more dmg same speed and can get +skills only thing is more strength and besides you'll need strength for higher end items anyways. Now to find that 5 socket +3 holy shock divine scepter...

Hey skunkbelly, I think I have a white divine scepter with +2 holy shock/freeze. I'm not positive, but I'll try to see if i can dig it up. I won't be needing it, and I'd prefer to see somebody use it then have it rot on a mule. I'll try to see if i can dig the bugger up.

Edit: Yup, it was on the first mule I looked in. :)

Look me up on *Christor sometime, I do still occasionally pop on to chat every few days or so. Either that or talk to Rachil0, he has access my accounts and can give it to you in the event that I'm not on.

Got bored, so I socketed the weapon and stuck the runes in. I must say, it's a damn secksy weapon, especially for level 27. :D

All yours man if you want it.

PS: Rachil0, it's on my druid Jalaro, just so you know where it's being held.

my shockadin used the lightsabre in season one. of course, crescent moon would be ideal but that 3 socket phase blade was really hard to find.

Not sure what you mean by mid-level.

You can go through Nightmare with:

The Skewer of Krintiz and Crushflange.

The Skewer with ITD and mana steal means you hit fine and steal more than enough mana to keep zeal going (with the occasional top up).

Switch to Crushflange to zap act bosses - crushing blow and zeal is really powerful (as some else points out earlier in the thread)!.

I have a Paladin at the moment tearing therough NM using holy Shock and holy freeze with zeal (a repalcement for a zeal holy shock guy I took to hell but couldn't cope with only one offensive aura!).

Other beauty of these is it enables you to hold stats until you have a better idea of the gear you want/will have to use in hell.
