Nope, it's only arrows/bolts/thrown weapons.

Piercing always only works on ranged weapons and not on a skill like Fireball for example.
Skills and weapons are two different things!

Would you have Enchant and cast Enchnt on a Bow with Pierce then it would still be the pierce working on the bow or arrows and not on Enchnt, since Enchnt just enhances the damage of the bow/arrow.

Nope. It only works on physical projectiles.

That said, if you like the idea of piercing Fireballs, make an Enchantress, slap on Razortail (which I assume you've already got, or you probably wouldn't have asked about it), and get yourself a Demon Machine crossbow. The latter should be easy to get; most people who find them don't use them, as they aren't very good for most builds. In the hands of a ranged enchantress, though, they really shine.

Why, you ask? Well, they've got 66% piercing, which stacks with Razortail, for 99%. They fire explosive arrows, and the explosion carries the Enchant damage. What this means is when you shoot a single target, you hit it for physical bolt damage + Enchant damage + explosion splash damage + Enchant damage again. In other words, that 5k+ damage you see on your character screen is effectively doubled.

Against tightly packed mobs, it's simply devastating. The bolts pierce, which means each monster hit takes full damage, plus because the explosions occur in such close proximity, most of the monsters take the splash damage several times over. If things are not fire immune, they get roasted very quickly.

I've tried this, and yes, it works very well. Fire immunes are a major problem, but not quite as much of a problem as for a pure fire sorcy, since the bolts do physical damage as well (even if the amount is quite small), and can carry effects like Crushing Blow, Open Wounds, Chance to Cast x, +elemental damage, and knockback. Any of these can help greatly with fire immunes.

There are two other great things about this build. First, you don't need mana to shoot. Simply cast Enchant (cheap prebuff weapon switch gear is Hexfire + Visceratuant/Lidless Wall). This means more points can go into Vitality. Second is the speed- with only 8% IAS, you hit the cap of an 11-frame attack. Yes, I know, it's not as fast as you could cast those Fireballs with some good FCR gear, but that's balanced by the fact that a) you don't need to load up on IAS/FCR gear, and b) they hit multiple times, meaning each bolt can effectively be as good as 3-4 Fireballs.

The only real downside, besides the single-element focus, would be the lack of a shield. Hide behind a tough merc, though, and this isn't much of an issue- think of yourself as a massively-damaging bowazon with Teleport. :)

Back in the day you could equip a piercing bow and your glacial spikes and such would pierce. I loved it.
