Hi guys, I am a noob to anything necro, and I've just started back up D2 after about a year, so am starting all new, I have never used a necro before playing D2, and am wanting to start a MF necro to fund my ladder season since I "heard" that necros are uber with their minions nowaday.

I'd like you guy's honest opinion on the type of MF necros that is most successful, keeping in mind there is no hand-me-down gears of any kind to begin with, I have read many of the posts here and is wondering about twhree different kinds, Bone/Summoner, Poison/Summoner, or pure Summoner. Which one do you guys think would be the easiest to start off with that has the greatest gain in later games once I build it up?

I don't see me making a hybrid anytime soon. I just prefer a strong Summoner.

Obviously you have seen through our thinly disguised misinformation campaign and are not fooled by all ridiculous rubbish in the guides stickied at the top of our forum.

(note to the conspiracy: )
Hmm... we may need to make them more believable guys.
(end note)

I personally find any of the summoners to be quite a slow grind in hell. Doing a single pit run, even with really good gear takes upwards of half an hour with a skelimancer. Other people in other classes claim to have much better times for clearing the puts (15 minutes on down).

The only people I know who claim to clear the pits quickly *already have* uber gear eg 10 +skillers, +3 necro ammies, crafted things of monkeys flying out of the butt etc.

Of course, if you *already had* that stuff, you wouldn't be asking the question.

Some advice I've been given by people with much better gear than myself in the past, is to:

Do lots and lots and lots of Nightmare Mephisto runs.
Pick up the okay stuff.
Trade your way up to better stuff.

Ultimately, you then acquire the stuff to let you do fast Hell Meph runs, and repeat, and then leverage your way up from there.

Although I have no experience of it myself, a lot of people say that a better strategy is to get *quantity* of kills, rather than quality. The concept is that by killling lots of small monsters really quickly, you have the best odds of high end runes dropping. So you might try asking what necro build kills really fast in the Flayer jungle in Hell.

Skeletons are good in outdoor areas, but bad in terrain with choke points, so they are probably not what you want for the jungles... unless you can teleport over with Enigma... but of course thats the chicken and egg problem all over.

Maybe you should consider a Poison build, and find an area with lots and lots of monsters, but no Poison Immune monsters?

Maybe some kind of Strafe Amazon, or a Sorc (for fast tele to Meph), or a Cleric (Holy Bolt Paladin, just gotta find yourself an area which is mostly undead, preferably one where the non undead monsters are quite slow, so you can just run straight past them. With maxed synergies Holy Bolt is just about the most 'OMG the end of the world is nigh' skill for laying the smacketh downeth).

Personally, I've not had much luck with MF, and get bored far too quickly to ever be really rich.

A *third* strategy is just to be a really nice person. Help out lots of 'new' players, be chatty without wasting their time, don't push your help on them etc. After all, most of them will be useless n00bs (or poor, like me :) )... but you never know when that one in a hundred is going to be that guy with a bunch of 1.09 99 lvl chars with 17 accounts of mules all full of 'teh godly' gear.

Note: this strategy is the best in real life too. Yes, you could earn a lot of money as a code monkey programmer. You could earn more by working your butt off and being a doctor... but to earn the *really* *really* big money, you have to get good at sales. Which means getting good at being nice and figuring out what the people with the money really want, and how you can help them achieve that.

Hasta hasta hasta. :)

I've run several different MF characters in the past, but like you, just picked the game back up recently after almost 2 years. Many changes, and I now find the necro to be excellent at MF.

I have a lvl87 summoner (+ points in curses, CE, and Bone Wall). There are few places I can't run efficiently (except tight crowded places). I am one of those people who thinks that number of kills is more important than speed, but my army still kills quick. I have no +skills equipment, other than that which is inherent in my MF gear, preferring to save room for +resist charms instead. I can make it through the Pits in about 10 minutes, with 9 skellies, Clay Golem, & a merc, take out Hell Meph with no problems (or even losing more than 1 or 2 skellies). WSK gives me trouble, if there are gloams present, but I'm pumping points into Dim Vision now to combat that. Baal himself is cake, just have to be a little patient.

Started him with no gear, now have just over 500%MF. Some advice:

Take the time to build up your merc. I use an Act 2 might merc, same level as me. Give him good equipment, feed him potions, and keep him leveling. He is my primary killing machine. The skels & golem are there to absorb damage, while my merc does the real damage.

Once you have a good MF base (50-100% or so), from basic equipment, do some Rakanishu runs. He has a good chance of dropping a Gull, which will give your early MF a good kick. I didn't worry about MF again until Hell, when I could start soloing the Pit (about level 75 for me)... Got lucky on a Pit run, and found some stuff to trade, and built my MF from there.

Also, don't limit yourself to just quick boss runs. Good stuff can drop anywhere in Hell. Unless your looking for the absolute in Uber gear, you can find what you are looking for in normal areas. I have areas I like to run, just for the fun of it. A normal run for me looks like:

Countess
The Pit
Andy
Canyon of the Magi (lots of packs here)
Flayer Jungle (not really that difficult, just spawn your golem across bridges to distract, then swarm the other side)
Travincal
Meph
River of Flame/Hephasto (occasionally drops good, but usually just gold)
Edlritch/Shenk
Pindle
WSK

I add in some other places, take some out as I feel like it. Usually find a few decent items & runes every run. And alot of Flawless gems (for rerolling those charms).

Hope that gives you some ideas. It's not a fast-running build, but I find it far more enjoyable.

skelly mancer is best for mf
as for 2 up poster skelly mancer can kill hell baal somethin that no other class can do allowing the max level drops so you dont have to compete with 5k sorcs for tradeable items also i can probally clear the pit with just a merc amp and ce

Just choose whatever build sounds the most fun to you. They can all complete the game if you put in the 43 points to get Max SR, SM and a one point Summon Resist. After that you can do everything you want.

If you want to know which build does the fastest Pit run if it is completely twinked out, I would have to say the Poison/Summon-Hybrid.

about the WSK, use attract.

i never bothered using dim vision since the gloams saw me anyway.

if there are a few souls around, cast attract on one and they'll stop bothering you. i might try combining it with dim vision, sounds like a good combo, ill have to try it.

btw to the guy who started this thread.

i was a big v09 guy because i just loved cows. but school got to me so i quit D2 last year around this time.

but then schoolwork was finished and i was bored. so i picked up v1.10 this year around June.

starting with nothing, i started ladder play with a tesladin. not too successful ill have to admit but i blazed thru nm mode well enough and found some decent items. the one thing i did a lot was hang out in the FREEEEEEEE games. because this was ladder, people would often find certain rather useful but not overly useful ladder only items such as cerebus bite or destroyer edge helm, or wolfhowl, etc. once i even got 5 30% nagelrings to which i traded for a windforce then i traded for sorceress MF gear. and there you go, i made an orb sorceress specially to do hell meph runs.

slowly i began to take off. i made a pure lightning javazon who could take on hell baal easily and i began to MF off him.

then the good items began to pour in.

then i had enough to make my necro

ladder play ended but i guess the point is, there is always a way to get rich, you just have to be aware.

Well thanks a lot for you guy's reply towards my thoughts and concern, it helped a lot and I have made the decision to go with a skellemancer with curses as support. I am thinking about some revives since the new 1.10 hell monsters are so damn strong. Hopefully I'll be on my way to getting them Uber gears soon. Again I appreciate the input!! :worship:
