Sorc w/ Ali Baba

Hi:

I'm doing Meph runs using Meteor and the moat trick, and I was wondering two things:

1. Do I have to physically kill Meph with Ali Baba, or can I cast Meteor and kill Meph that way and get the MF bonuses?

2. Can I have to equip Ali Baba just when Meph is dying, or do I have to cast the Meteor that kills Meph while I'm equipping Ali Baba for the MF bonuses?

nope u can just fireball em and rain meteors on his head.

u can have ali baba/rhyme on your switch a wizzy/occy/lidless/storm when your tele'ing and killing meph.
and when mephisto has only a small amount of life left ur press "w" and cast the final meteor/fireball

Calculating MF has nothing to do with which spell animation he gets killed. Its only calculated at the time that the boss dies and then sums up all the MF-gear on the char and runs the calculation.

So you can switch shortly before death and get the full MF amount into the calculation. No problem there.

Any other beliefs in this direction or theories are mostly just excuses players look for since they think their massive amount of MF is not working right ;)
It works perfectly, but dont forget that there is alot of LUCK in that equation for itemdrops ;)

What about Meteor's flame damage? If you're wearing your non-mfind gear and drop a meteor...then switch[w]...but the meteor BEFORE the switch is what kills Meph. How will Mfind be calculated?

If you kill a monster directly (ie, with a weapon attack or targeted spell), your MF at the time the monster dies is what's used.

If you kill a monster indirectly (assassin traps, poison, Open Wounds), it still uses your MF as of the moment the monster dies.

If your mercenary kills a monster, it uses the total of your MF at the moment of death plus your merc's MF. This applies whether the merc kills it directly, or indirectly through poison, OW, or the like.

If you've got minions, and one of them gets the kill, it's treated just like a mercenary. Since minions typically don't have MF, though, the total used will be your MF. I'm not sure if minions that spawn with magic items (Valkyrie and Shadow Master, in particular) can have MF affixes on their gear, but if they can, you wouldn't be able to tell anyways.

Note that in all of these scenarios, it's your MF at the moment of the kill that matters. What MF you had when casting the spell is irrelevant.
