hi there guys 'n' gals!

well, after blissfull playing D2 for a rather extensive period of time now i have run into a slight problem.

my cd drive went south on me and i cant get a new one sadly for the time being. i have four perfictly shiney CD's, but no way to launch the game :(

so i am wondering if there is a way to make a full install (not the FULL install, but the single/multi player install) run without my having a working CD drive. i dont know if this will help out at all, but i have 3 computers on my home network so i could copy files from the cd on a different computer and send them to my D2 computer if that would do the trick.

i would try daemon tools, but alas, my cd drive had to die on me so even that wouldnt help me out!

thanks for your help ^_^

I use a program called virtual drive, that emultes being a real dvd drive.
It makes images of the cd's, and then loads them like that.
So if you could makes the images on one pc, you could pass them to the one with the broken drive, and then it'd be all good.

Alcohol 120% sort of the same thing offers up to 38 (or something like that) virtual cd/dvd drives and does a really good job of making 1:1 backups of even the newest games (it can also do dvd games but unfortunately not movies yet) and it supports all image formats as well as it's own (iso bin/cue ccd blah blah)

you would of course have to make the image on another computer then transfer it over to the one you want to play on and you would have to install alcohol on both at least temporarily.

I can't remember 100% whether game patches are okay or not for those with legit cds ... but the simplest solution would be to use a no-cd patch available at many sites. Of course, since you own your own cds a no-cd patch should be okay to use.

Just copy over the patched game .exe over to your diablo game folder and the game won't look for the cd anymore.

No cd imaging, no installation of software that you don't need/want (although I love Alcohol 120% myself) and no using up ~ 650mb of HD space for the play disc.
