In hell, does the secret cow lvl produce decent amount of runes and good items? ive never really put much time there, and just wondered what the mfing possibilities are there.

When checking the astronomically low chances for Zod runes, hall cows are worse than monsters from act 4-5 and a few selected areas of act 3 (unfortunately mostly those nobody likes to visit, like the flayer dungeon or the 6 ruined/forgotten temples/shrines). Cows are easy to kill in large numbers and apart from charms, jewels etc. they can drop up to TC 87 as well (I'm not sure about their level, however), so they are a good source for socketed stuff as well.

IMO it's worth doing a cow run from time to time, but remember, cows are parody monsters, so don't visit them too often, else you will end up with parody characters

that seems like a poke at .09 characters

kris, if you are checking those odds with ATMA 5.04d, it still had a bug in it that was doubling the odds for Flayers and Returned Mages. The bug is fixed but the recent forum downtime delayed the upload I think.

In general, Wraiths > Cows > everything else when it comes to rune drops per monster. But, as you say, since you can kill many cows quickly (assuming a cowing build), the cow level is a good palce to find runes.

Hmm, I still have 5.04c... I will skip 5.04d and have an eye on atma.diabloii.net for the next version.

Thanks for the info.

Cow King can only drop upto a VEX. Also, the mlvl of the MooMoo Farm is mlvl = 81, So it can't drop upto TC 87.

Hmm, my area level list also states the cow level being L81. Anyway, cows must be special then, as ATMA (which I trust in this case) lists the armo87 and weap87 TCs for cows and IIRC I already saw some TC 87 items dropping there in 1.10, although I'm not 100% sure about that.

You are right with respect to the King. It's just like Meph. The bosses in Durance 3 can drop any unique, but Meph can't, so I suspect there is a conspiracy... who is the real King and who is the true Lord of Hate ?

Cows are special, in that they have their own TC which means they don't upgrade like normal monsters do. The area level is irrelevant, except that it means most cows can't drop uniques with qlvl 82 or more (this is independent from which base items they can drop). The Cow TC includes TC87 items and Zod runes.
The Cow King is not a Cow :insert raised eyebrow smiley:, he is a quest monster and also has his own special TC. It only goes up to TC66 and Vex though.

Blizzard have generally balanced high quality item droppers to have lower TCs than low quality item droppers, for reasonably obvious reasons.

The drop percentages for zod runes in hell cows are extremely low, I know this. But, the shear number of cows and the fact that certain players can kill them extremely fast makes this a great place for finding runes. I have it up there, right under hellforge. I have found my best runes doing cow runs.....a great place for socketables too.

Yeah, cows are bad for sets and uniques, but super for finding jewels, charms, gems, runes, white items and socketables, due to the numbers, and also all the chests/corpses there.
Its my favourite "mf" spot together with pits and travincal.

Cheers,
