View Full Version : ww/throw hybrid...cant figure out the gear...
Hi guys!
I need help figureing out the gear for a pvp ww/throw barb.
The requirements are:
maxed pdr (with storm on switch)
good throwing speed (preferably faster than 6fpa double throw.)
good ar (>10k)
some deadly strike/critical strike
The hardest part is to figure out a way to have good ar while still having some critial strike/deadly strike...
For weapons i'm planing gimmershred, so now you know the ias and WSM...
regards

Mostly throw or mostly WW? You are a bit strabed for points :)
For the 5.5 FPA mark it seems you need 60% IAS, this seems a bit hard to get but Highlords, some 10%+ IAS gloves and two IAS IAS jewels should cut it. Are you planing on using some non-runeword armor? Maybe go with an ed/ias and ed/str|dex armor? This would give you various open sockets to play with. If you're a real sucker for AR, maybe AR/IAS jewels in the armor. You may also want to look at Demon's Arch javas, the throwing range is noticable, as in I doubt you'll get many hits with axes.
I see your point about the javs.
I havent really decided any gear piece yet. My main concern is getting enough ar while still having some deadly/critical strike. highlords and gores are the only sources of that and with highlords taking up the amulet spot i can count out angelics...i'm considering hsarus boots+belt to compensate for the loss of ar.
How would this work?
Shako(ber)
Highlords, for deadly strike.
60%ias armor or ed/ias if i can afford it.
Hsarus boots+belt, for ar.
2*ravenfrost
steelrenders, for cb and more dmg.
botd+stormshield
2*demon archs.
This would give me maxed pdr with s/s and a little pdr with the javs up. Also nice ar, life and deadly strike from highlords.
The armor is the only weak point as i'm not sure i can afford ed/ias.
This sound good?

I would use something like that.
If i can get an eth zoded death cleaver, should i remove the highlords for angelics then?
i'll have enough deadly strike and critical strike with death cleaver+mastery and i'll probably need ar more than deadly strike with the javs...

Definitely stick with highlords for all situations because in this case the IAS mod helps you as well.
the ias wont help me if i'm gonna use an ias armor...will the 33% deadly strike help me more than a few thousand more ar?

I guess it depends mostly on the opponents, barbs and pallies spring to mind as standard "damnit, I need more AR!!!" types. With my current setup when using DC, I always go for highlord's, it's as easy as almost 100% chance for double damage, I find it impossible to say no to. I also find the hsarus combo to be better than angelics, I loose about 3-400 AR but can use a rather nifty ring, in your case another Raven, alternatively something with resist, mana (very important for WW), life and you know, the usualy desired mods. Thing with angelice is, the combo takes up more important slots than hsarus, while you loose PDR, this usually isn't that important unless you're against another barb or a really beefed up physical attacker. Zons doesn't count as they nearly never have high defense, so you can skimp on the AR.
Rather than going with the specific setup you suggest, here's a few things which belong in any barb PvP stash:
Hsarus - The best AR combo IMO.
Angelics - Sometimes this can bennefit you more, adds PDR, OW and DS so to speak.
Arreat's - Res, AR, stats and skills, impossible to say no to in most situations.
War cry weapons - 3-400 more life? ~60 mana more? You don't always want to use both your switches, would you ever throw at a zon? Well you would, but to some extent I feel the more life and mana gives more bang for the buck. Get them in Elite form so they can kill too.
Rare gloves - This would be with IAS (swing and throw speed), resist, CB and you name it. Enables you to switch armor if need be.
Lastly a Wizardspike (socket it with either anti cold or lightning, I think cold is best), you don't get more useful resists from anywhere else when taking on pallies and sorcs, only with specialized shields, but stash space is limited.
Thx alot for the info mule!
i cant find the bps for double throw. you dont happen to know them, do you?

The bps i've found are 30ias and 60 ias for 6fpa and 5.5fpa. I hope these are correct..
I've come up with 3 different setups and i cant figure out which ones better. They all use the same base items:
Botd+storm
2*demon archs
Hsarus belt+boots
Highlords
2*raven
ias/stat/cb gloves
I'll only list the helm and armor as those are the only variables.
#1
Shako(ber)
4 socket armor with 2 ias and 2 ed jewels, 30ias/80ed armor.
#2
CoA socketed with 2*ias or 2*ed/ias if i can afford it.
Enigma lightplate
#3
Arreats socketed ias or ed/ias
Leviathan with same socket as arreats.
These 3 setups gives me enough ias for the 60%bp and maxed pdr.
Leviathan might be an odd choice for the third setup but its the best armor that gives pdr and can be socketed, Shaft would also be nice but the str on levi works as more dmg and i'll have no problems meeting the str req anyway.
meh, cant decide which ones better...#2 got some nice mods from enigma but it also limits the possibilities to change armor. #1 is nice with lots of possibilities with the armor as i only need 30ias from the armor...#3 is also nice as it makes it possible to wear arreats for more ar/dmg/fhr.
I need some help...

I can't remember breakpoints for anything but -10 speed weapons, but I seem to recall this <http://diablo2.ingame.de/tips/calcs/weaponspeed.php?lang=english> being rather accurate, at least at finding breakpoints. Also be sure not to run into that old "throwing from one stack" bug, IF it's still around.
Usually I'm against Enigma on barbs, the only real thing it has going is the r/w and +str, both translate into some form of life, but in my opinion it's overrated by newbie barbs needing teleport :) A good old fashioned armor with sockets available is certainly the way to go, especially as you need the IAS. Shaft might be a good option, you could skip the storm and maybe go Whitstand's instead? Add in arreats and you can go rather low on dex, hurting your throwing damage of course, but it's at least another option, and you'd have close to max PDR on both switches.
well, comparing #2 and #3 the only real difference is that #2 gets more frw from enigma but its way more expensive. #2 will have better ar/dmg/life really...and as you said, more pdr on the throwing switch.
I'm going with #2, arreats(ed/ias)+shaft(ed/ias).
