I was playing a game, and a spam bot comes in...so for the first time, I realize I should just squelch him. I open up the party window, and click squelch...at which point I get something like

"You cannot squelch that player because they are not online. Please make sure you spelt the name right, or use (*username) to squelch them".

What do you mean, make sure I spelt the name right?
What do you mean, they are not online?
How can they be in my game, and offline?
And how do I squelch the oh so annoying spambots...?

I found that squeltching them works regardless of what it says.

But the squelch only works until they leave the game. AFAIK, if that same bot comes back to your game you'll have to squelch it again.... Best defense is to just bind "Clear messages" to your spacebar or semething--that makes it real easy to get rid of their messages with minimal fuss.

Kyro do you mind if I hug you?

Best, suggestion, ever....you can have two things bound to the same key, right? (spacebar is my close-screens button)

I found that squelching them makes them not put anymore message out and then they leave the game. So when I join a game, such as a baal run, while everyone is trying to decide who is going to tele, I sit with the party screen open and as soon as I see the spambot enter, I click squelch. They usually only get one sentence out and then they drop from the game.

How do you bind things like "close windows" to the spacebar? I thought you could only bind skills for keys f1-f8

Close windows isn't a skill. Default is, if you hit space bar once, it drops out your inventory/tree/character screens. If you hit it a second time, it closes the auto map. Thus, I call it the "Close Windows" button.

Don't feel bad, I played for awhile before I figured this out myself. Once I started playing necros and an occational pally that have a lot of situational spells, I didn't have enough room. Now i have F1-F8 and 0-6 on my number pad set to different things.

You'll have to excuse me if I don't give the exact menu names, as I'm not on my home pc right now, but it goes something like this:
Hit esc
Go to options (or whatever the option is that isn't save and exit, or return)
Go to...I'm thinking it's control configuration
There is a big long list of all the assigned keys, as well as a lot of unallocated skill keys. You can pretty much change and re-arrange anything you wish by simply highlighting the set button and hitting what you want to change it to.
When you're done, make sure to click on the accept button.

Hopefully that'll do it for you.
