View Full Version : Question about PvP/MF
I want to make a PvP/Pit-runner.
At first I was going to use shanksies guide using strafe but then I figured that multi shot and guided arrow was better for PvP.
So is strafe viable in PvP and are guided arrow and multi shot viable for pit-runs.
Is it actuallt possible to make such a character and if it is and I'm not thinking right ;) please enlighten me.
The zon's strength in pvp is not the concern, since they're supposedly very weak anyways. But I'm sure you can make a pvm/pit with guided/multi. I'm planning to do the same, as well. I haven't found any guides that are close to what I"m looking for, but all you need to do is switch items when dueling and when killing monsters.
Also, your skills should be more pvp oriented, but i dont think that should be too much of a problem for the Pit. I was thinking something like this: (i'm too lazy to switch too much gear)
Mavina's Diadem /w 15% ias
Shaftstop /w 15% ias
Eaglehorn (ITD in pvm)
Rings: life leech/ravenfrost for pit and angelic/angelic for pk
Amulet: cat's eye for pit and angelic for pk
gloves: dracul's or +ias gloves (i lost my near-perfect pair in 1.09)
boots: doesn't really matter...but wartrav for pvm or goreriders for pk i guess
you can have a CtA with SS on switch if you want...i say SS because me and my friends used to constantly switch to shield when not shooting and it was a pretty good strategy. but it's not like we couldnt take hits back then. zons used to be so good...
So...if anyone has better gear (i'm actually looking for an ideal multi/guided PK setup over a PvM one) then you can help both of us out.
EDIT: by my estimation, if you're pumping vit instead of dex, then you should be prepared to carry out a lot of arrows...
Multi would be fine in Pits. If using WF for multi, 9 frame attack should be plenty for pits & allow plenty of MF (my multi buriza zon had no problem at all & was well below 9 frame). This is 90% ias.
Gear suggestions:
Tals Helm, Armor, Belt (socket Helm & armor 15% ias) = 30% IAS 165% mf(approx)
laying of hands - 20% ias, 350 ed demons (lots of demons in pits)
boots - war travlers (40% MF average)
WF shael - 40% ias
magic find amulet - 35% MF
nagel - 25% Mf (average)
ravenfrost
90% ias, 260% Mf without Gheeds, or any MF charms. Should be able to hit around 350% with charms no problem. This is a nice number for an amazon.
resists all positive, very nice damage & leech, very good killing speed for pits.
Multi all the way through the pits & maybe something on switch for the very rare PI. Even if you pump Vitality instead of Dex, you will have plenty of killing power for the pits.
Strafe is no good for PvM. Too easy to counter. Ever have a single monster move across your stream of arrows when straffing & not one hits. The arrows are targeted at the enemies position when the arrow is released. If the are even just walking from left to right, not one will hit. Strafe needs stationary targets or ones that are moving towards/away from you. Not left to right. Think shamans in act 1 or zealots in act 3. Multi / Guided all the way for PvM.

haha - first i thought you had mis-typed PvM/P, but i read on and found you hadn't :o
I realise ppl usually prefer one or the other, but to say strafe is useless for pvm is rather silly (tho i would agree that MS>strafe for PvP - so obviously MS for a pit/pvp zon).
You can strafe monsters before they see you, so they are stationary, then ofc they see you (or your merc/valk) and shockingly enough they will walk towards you or your minions. Then once they have met your minions they will again be stationary. All in all 95% of monsters will either walk towards you to attack you, or stand still and attack you from range. The zealots are slightly annoying, but not worth rubbishing strafe for as a simple recast of valk, or an extra strafe volley does the trick, not to mention the zealots tend to run towards you, then run away from you, as opposed to side to side.
Tho there is no point discussing/arguing further as you obviously prefer MS, and for pvp i'd have to agree with you.

No, No you are correct (or incorrect, I'm not sure lol). I mis-typed PvP. I am a die hard straffer but I only play PvM. I was just trying to use examples of PvM where strafe can be frustrating & how some monsters have demonstrated how easy it could be for a dueler to counter strafe. I completely agree with you. 95% of all mosters pretty much line up for you once they engage the valk. Sometimes it's only that last damn stubborn one that insists on walking side to side that can drive me crazy, although I usually then just run up to him & point blank strafe him. The multi zon I outlined will work well in the pits, but I would prefer my straffer anyday. He just can't duel to save his life.
I modeled my original straffer after your WWS build Shanksie. I just finished making a new ladder WF zon variant to your build also. 120 ias, demon limb w/ 20 skill points in magic arrow, valke, critical strike & 50% pierce. Resists absolutely stink for the time being but, I can really tear it up.
Sorry for the confusion.
