Someone please tell me if I'm screwing this up, thanks.

Level 20 venom

Item skills:
3 - shadow ammy for buffing
6 - pair of shadow claws
1 - anni
1 - arachnid
2 - sojs
2 - shadow dancers
1 - battle command
4 - shadow gc's

Total venom level = 40.

Venom damage at level 40 is 1075 to 1095 = 1085 average damage

Poison ED contributions:
15% ED from buffing helm with 3 psn facets
20% ED from facet sockets on shadow claws
50% ED from buffing with bramble on
25% ED from trangs x 2 = 50% ED (because of the ED being counted twice, hidden bonus)

Total = 135% ED

Venom damage w/ED taken into accout = 2550 over .4 seconds

Venom damage with hidden 100% PLR penalty in hell = 5100 over .8 seconds

Now, the PvP penalty SEEMS to be closer to 1/5 or even 1/4, but let's assume 1/6 for argument's sake.

Venom damage after 1/6 penalty = 850
Venom damage after going through 75% res = 212

So, we have 212 PvP damage per application of venom with a .8 second duration. Am I correct?

Does anyone know what the actual PvP penalty is for venom?

Next, If a kicker has 1100 to 1700 physical kick damage, that averages to 1400 physical damage. Going through the 1/6 penalty and 50% DR, that yields 117 PvP damage on average.

Finally, a chaos claw yields 216 to 471 magic damage, which averages to 343 average damage. Going through a 1/6 penalty that's 57 PvP damage.

Total average non-physical damage contribution = 269
Average physical damage contribution = 117

Now, the .8 second duation on venom seems to work against kickers, as they kick so fast. But it seems that that isn't actually the case. Assuming 75% block, only 1 in 4 kicks actually land. Assuming average to hit chances, you further only have an 80 to 85% chance to land any given kick vs. a 2K defense target. The result...you are landing LESS than 25% of your kicks on average vs. an opponent with good block. Therefore, the .8 second duration actually has a reasonable chance of running it's length before reset by another kick. Now, one thing that may be a factor here that I am disregarding is blocking speed. If you kick faster than they can block, then more kicks should theoretically get through. This should be considered and, if anything, merely makes this argument more compelling.

Given this, I conclude that venom, when PROPERLY buffed and managed, should be the biggest source of damage for any kicker. This is in contradiction to my previous statements on this topic, before I was aware of the double application of poison ED sources and, more improtantly, the hidden -100% PLR penalty in hell.

Er, your calculations get a bit sloppy with the venom.

Level 40 venom does 1085 average over 0.4 seconds
Buffing % = +110%
Hitting % = +25% (If using only Trangs for Striking)

Damage after Buff = 1085*2.1 = 2278.5 over 0.4 seconds
Damage on hit = 2848.1 over 0.4 seconds

-100% plr penalty = 5696.25 over .8 seconds

Using Bramble while fighting, you end up with 7974.75 over 0.8.

Strike% Dmg PvP Resist Final
25 5696 0.17 75 242.1
75 7975 0.17 75 338.9

Bramble is only for buffing as I use enigma.

So, does the 25% from trangs act on the ALREADY BUFFED venom? I was just figuring it as though it were another ed source for the base venom damage. You are having the trang ED act on the buffing ED. Is that right? That's MORE than double if it's the case.

Exactly.

It gets applied once to get your damage. Then it gets applied again when you strike. Nail checked with the people in the statistics forum before he added that part to the FAQ (it's in there now on my prompting). It works just like the double application of Fire Mastery on an Enchantress. Everyone gets the first application, but when she casts it on herself it gets applied again, giving a heck of a lot more damage.

In that case, maybe I WILL socket my valk with a 5/5 facet :cheesy:
