View Full Version : Which Fire Trap is best

I am building a Trapsin designed more for PvM play then PvP. That being teh case, I nead something besides lightning damage in order tot ake on those annoying LI monsters. The problem is that since my previous assasins (with teh exception of a single purely PVP all-lightnign Trapsin) have all been hybred assasins who use lightning sentry, so I don't know which fire Traps work best. Somebody please advise.

Well. For PvM, I'd say that none of the fire traps work. WoF has to low dmg and WoI is bugged. A merc (or a nice party) should do the job.

none of the fire traps work v well in pvm and i wouldnt recommend trying to get both types of traps anyway
however fire blast can work quite well as it synergises with all ur lightining traps also death sentrys corpse explosion can be used to take care of lightning immunes once u have killed a few of them

Hmm, fire traps = ****y. Got'ya. I will keap the 1 point in WoF since It's a req for blade furry anyway, and blade furry is nice, but other then that I will stikc no points in. I'll just haver to rely on my BF and my merc to bump off a few LI monsters so I cna start exploding them.

Well, I have a HCL Fire Traps Asn and I have to say that although it is very fun through Norm and NM, it gets to be a letdown.
The main causes is that each fire trap has some problem that makes it very annoying to use, problems that the "comparable" lightning traps don't have.
1. Wake of Fire. This is my favorite. The spread is great, it owns groups of guys, so what is the downside? It has five shots that go off in about 1 second. Which means you are basically recasting them every 2-3 seconds which basically means you run out of mana FAST. Otherwise WoF is def the best one, if you have, I dunno, infinite mana.
2. Wake of Inferno. This one is ok other than the whole, it does not do the listed dmg problem. This is so sad, I heard it is bugged to do 33% of the lsited dmg, which sucks b/c if it really did the dmg listed it would own single targets or even lines of enemies (think Maggot Lair, Arcane, etc) so bad it would be a joke. But it doesn't. 99% of the time I put down 3 WoF and 1 WoI and later one DS. WoI is almost pointless, though the duration is nice.
3. Fire Blast. This is pretty good but obviously the downside is the small radius of effect. But I agree that if you are lightning looking for a source of non Lightning dmg, this is the way to go, esp since the DS synergy is quite useful. So you can FB one LI to death then drop a DS or two and watch the mayhem ensue.
4. Death Sentry. This is the hybrid one, I wouldn't really consider it fire or lightning but I would say it's a max for both builds.
All this said, the char was still really fun, so feel free to pursue fire traps if it appeals to you. Certainly there are worse builds *cough* psychic hammer *cough*
I had a great MFer that dealt every type of damage but cold and magic (left cold up to the merc). You can find what I did here (http://www.battle.net/forums/thread.aspx?fn=d2-gameplay&t=92120&p=3). The equipment is set up for MF, but the principle is the same. It worked very well for everything but bosses, and that was mostly because I didn't know how to use CBS.All this said, the char was still really fun, so feel free to pursue fire traps if it appeals to you. Certainly there are worse builds *cough* psychic hammer *cough*Haha, that made me laugh.
