What Books Are You Currently Reading?

I read books all the time, and I am sure I am not the only one who reads through them at Ludicrous Speed (Space Balls) so, what are you reading?

I am reading Insurrection (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0786927860/webmill0c-20/ref%3Dnosim/104-7974938-2300741), by Thomas M. Reid part of the War of the Spider Queen six part series.

I'm reading You're Not A Stranger Here by Adam Haslett. It's a collection of short stories about freaks and marginalization. Pretty good so far.

I'm giving in and reading the Da Vinci Code, even though I am very skeptical about books that gain such wide acclaim. It's good thus far though.

I just finished A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers, which I hope that everyone will read at some point. It's incredibly manic and introspective, all the time making fun of being manic and introspective. It's a very good read.

I've gotten bored riding the bus to and from work, and I don't have time to stop by the library, so I'm going through my collection of Raymond E Feist novels. Finished "Prince of the Blood" last week, then finished "The King's Buccaneer" 2 days ago, and am currently starting the Riftwar Saga. Only 4 books in that series, then I've got the Serpentwar Saga to keep me entertained. I've yet to manage to get my hands on the Empire series (Iunno the real name, but it's all the "<blank> of the Empire" ones based on Kelewan.) Fantastic fantasy author, comparable perhaps to Tolkien in the sheer magnitude of his work.

Currently reading On The Beach by Nevil Shute.
Next up is Pledged: The Secret Life Of Sororities by Alexandra Robbins. No, it's not some fantasy I'm trying to fufill. The author pretended to be a college student so she could join a sorority and write a book exposing all the crap that goes on. I hate the whole idea of the "greek life", so this book sounds fantastic. I might have to send it to USC's president after I'm done, so he can see what his precious greeks do in their spare time.
After that is Girlfriend 44 by Mark Barrowcliffe. The only book I've ever read that made me laugh out loud on every page was The Ginger Man. This book is supposedly in the same style as that, so I have high hopes.

Then about 10 more books, but I'll stop listing now. :)

I'm currently reading "The Principles of Computer Hardware" by Alan Clements along with "Applied C: An Introduction and More" by Fischer, et al.

Both are really easy to read and are not too confusing. Clements is especially good with his light humor in selected parts.

Actually I'm just reading different chapters and trying to get a jump on the next level classes at school in the Fall.

I'm reading up on Input/Output methods and Advanced Pointer Techniques, respectively, in the two books.

Going to get a jump start on my Differential Equations course and start out going over "A First Course in Differential Equations" by Dennis Zills. *shrug*

What can I say, I love this stuff! :winner:

Generally, I don't have the attention span necessary to get much reading done. The last book I read was Return of the King, and it took me about 10 months. I wanted to make sure I had it read before I saw the movie.

I agree. They are definately not the best books.
But I'm a perfectionist, and then I forced myself to read them anyway.
I consider them what the Silmarilion (sp?) is to LotR.
I loved the prequels much more.
Although is just pulp, they were a nice read.

I just finished 'Da Vinci Code'.
Dont know what next.
Have 3 or 4 options.

Elizabeth Haydon quickly became my favorite author after reading Rhapsody.

I've read the other 2 in that series (Prophesy and Destiny), as well as Requiem For The Sun.

Tomorrow or the next day, Elegy For A Lost Star is due to be released, and I shall be snatching it up asap. PM me if you'd like a link to a forum dedicated to her writing. Ms. Haydon posts there often, and is quite a nice lady.

Are any of the books after Children of Dune good? I've had several friends say read up to Children of Dune, but don't waste your time after that.

Some of the later books became very slow-paced and hard to read. I didn't like the 2 or 3 after Children, but Chapterhouse: Dune (last in the series by Frank) was quite good.
