Generally speaking for Armor and Shields, what are considered the best gems to socket in them?
I apologize if this is the wrong forum, I am new here ;_;
it depends mostly on what character you're going to use with the items you're socketing. if you're going for a physical damage type character, you could socket your armor or shield with +enhance damage jewels, or something to that effect. some popular higher end ones are 40% ed/15% ias jewels or 40% ed/ +15 max dmg jewels. these are really rare however.
also check out the armor runewords (http://www.diabloii.net/items/runes/runewords-armor.shtml) and shield runewords (http://www.diabloii.net/items/runes/runewords-shields.shtml).
for shields, most players will socket an um rune or p diamonds to boost up resistance. Armor depends on ur char. if its already a really good unique, a p topaz would be nice for more mf.
in general i hear pDiamonds in shields for resists, and pTopaz in armor for magic find
