View Full Version : MP over TCP; 2 different Acts

I got my brother to start playing the game and he is in Act I; but I am in Act II. When I hooked up a TCP game, I did not know how to get him to where I am. I could go back to him, but he couldn't come to me in the city I was in. Is there a way to get him to me? We are both in Normal (1st time through game).

When he was looking at his quests while we are in game together, he said he couldn't see his quests or that he was able to do them, could it be because I was the starter of the host/game and he has to play my Act?

What is the method to have 2 of us play over TCP so that we are both in the same Act, but the higher one? I was thinking we could play in my act together and he should gain more experience with tougher monsters; then when he is playing SP, his character will breeze through Act I and catch up to me when I am offline.

Any helpful suggestions on how MP works over TCP?

It is very easy, get your brother to start the game server.
When you join, he will be able to do the quests, however you will see the message "Completed in a previous game" when you hover over them :D

Does this mean I will have to do his Act I quests with him until he catches up to Act II where I am at? I was hoping he could join me in Act II and then we he is solo he can go back to finish off the Act I quests.

Since I haven't yet did your above suggestion (he starts/hosts game), I don't know if there is a way of him hosting that he can come ahead to Act II with me.

That would be the best, he somehow get into my Act II. However, if this is not possible, then I suppose I can have him host, try that /players 8, and help him finish his Act I so he is up with me.

He will have to catch you up. All of the quests are not mandatory but some, for example killing Andariel in act 1, are necessary for him to enter act 2.

Well, he got to Act II, and he hosted, but I couldn't connect to him. I think he may have the firewall in XP hooked up since he just re-installed everything with a new momboard/chip.

He can connect to me 100 miles away so I hosted the game. But since I have finished Quest 1, working on Quest 2, finished 3, working on 4, haven't started 5, and 6 lit up to do; he was allowed it looked like to us; to go to quest 4, but not the lower ones.

We decided to put it off another night.

The goal tomorrow is to have him get rid of the firewall (no router on his end) and see if I can join him while he hosts. My end has a router but I have the ports open and such so don't think anything is wrong on this end since he can connect to me fine and join; I just can't join to him.
