I just started playing SP recently, after spending lots of time playing MP. I noticed a couple of differences right away, and was wondering if there were any more, and if there is any way to fix these or a way around these problems.

1. same map every time the game is loaded
2. can't set the number of players for more enemies

Also, are there better magic items/gems/rune drops online?

thanks!

edit:

1. the map is going to be the same since it saves the data. If u dont play for a while, the map will change.
2. u have to type "/players 8" in a sp game to change the number of players
3. if u have more ppl in a game, of course there will be better and more drops so yes online is better in a way.

"/players 8" for single player to simulate more players in the game

The map will change if you delete some files in the save directory (I forgot their names - and make backups before doing it) WHILE THE GAME IS NOT RUNNING or (a lot easier) if you change the difficulty level back and forth.

It can be an advantage to have a fixed map. For example, if you want to do Meph or Baal runs, you can generate new maps until you have one with the stairs down being right next to the waypoint.

Are there any advantages/disadvantages for SP/MP? I play MP with a password cover, and never really interact with other players...should I just play SP?

mizz, I do the same as you. I do venture into public games every so often, but not too much. The advantage I get when online is that it still feels like a competition, and most people are on equal ground (note, I only say most, since I don't count the botters/mh-ers). It's also easier for me to trade for items that I want, and that it's something I earned.

You can regenerate maps in single player without deleting files or changing difficulty.

The way to do it is to start a TCP/IP game. That will reroll the map.

Don't forget to hit "Enter" first, then type in the above line.

A strategy to go with that.

When you are going to kill a boss, take Baal for example. Type players1 to make the difficulty set for one player. Then go into Baal’s chamber and make him spawn. Then type player8. This makes him as hard to kill if you were in a one player game, but he drops as if there was 8 people in the game.

I'm not 100% sure of this but I think ladder only items and runewords are available only on bnet when playing ladder characters.

The ladder only items and runewords along with rune upgrades are all available on SP and TCP/IP.

The only things not available to SP are the World Event (unless you use PlugY) and the runewords that have been patched in server-side :)

p.s. For those of you who are unaware of plugy, it is not a hack it is a single player plugin for modded versions of diablo2. It also works for standard diablo2 but only in single player mode.

It is an infinite stash and does away with the need to mule when playing single player.

If anyone is interested they should check out the phrozen-keep forums.

Does Uber-D drop the Anni in this mod?

Does Uber-D drop the Anni in this mod?

Yes, Although I havent got that far yet. It simulates the world event in that you get a SOJ counter which increases from time to time.

I only play sp when I am working away and my char is only on NM at the moment but I am led to believe that he does drop an Anni :)

Edit:
PlugY is not a mod in itself, it is a plugin that gives you an infinite shared stash, the ability to deassign stat and skill points, the ability to change the number of stat/skill points on level up and a world event simulator.

I must emphasise that it works ONLY on single player.
