hello all, here is my build for my asn.
she can solo hell and she is safe in hell lvl
this build is good for both newbie and skilled player

1.) state point

strength:enough for equipment
dex:base
vita:pump it as much as you can
energy:base

2.) skill point

traps:
fireblast:1
shock web:20
charged blot sentry:20
lightinging sentry:20
death sentry:20

shadow disciplines:
claw mastery:1
burst of speed:1
Fade: 0 or 1 (depends on your resistances, i don't use it)
weapon block:1
shadow warrior:1
shadow master:pump all skill points here once you finished traps skills
pasychic hammer:1
cloak of shadows:1
mind blast:1

equipment:
shako( you can sok a rainbow facet)
ss (you can sok a rainbow facet)
tgod(good belt with add str)
heart of oak^^ i have a perfect one(crazy one but cheap i think, only vex and pul. you can get two gul to make a vex)
mara or add 2 skill rare or crafted (craft on when you are 85+ lvl)
skin, viper, ghost or the best is enigma...but hardly possible...it takes a month, but it is fun lol, you can tele in and lay trap and tele out LOL
frostburn
sandstrom trek(add str add vita)
soj or bul wedding
call to arm(secondary weapon) ^^ life is important

merc seletion: nightmare act 2 defensive (holy freeze)
my merc equipment: um'ed mesh, um'ed the reaper's toll, blackhorn's face(still not socketed)

how it works:

merc and shadow are for tanking...=D
so you don't get hit usually

when i kill monsters, i usually lay 5 lighting sentry around the monsters, once ONE monster is killed lay ONE death sentry to explode them, fast killing=D

when dueling with Lighting immues, let your merc or cast a shadow to attract the monsters. then you can cast mind blast to the group of monsters until one or more monsters are converted, your merc will get some off and you can lay a death sentry to explode the rest.

p.s. i don't use fade because it makes me lay trap slow
i use burst of speed all the time, you can lay traps very fast with it and walk faster as well

actually i soloed hell with sucking equipment, the litetrap doesn't need a lot of equipment to start with, you can kill even with cheap equipment, try it out , you will like it.

my Hardcore Ladder season 1 trapper - pure L-based - beat Hell solo (except didn't do Nik & partied for Hell ancients) and finally solo killed Baal to get her the guardian title at about lvl 83 - retired at lvl 85 after a few more hours play.

When Hell Baal finally collapsed and started to vomit, that trapper had about 180 defense, no unique, no set item, no runeword, all her claws were bought, all other items were either bought or found!

she wielded dual claws with +3 trap and +2 asn skills, had +6 shadow claws on switch (I left the 2 slots empty for a long time until I got the claws), no traper skiller (found one just before I stopped playing her, so I had one in her last couple of games), no Low Resist wand (I knew the trick, but never needed one), no shield (never used a shield since her lvl 12). She used Fade throughout NM/Hell except when doing shopping.

She never skipped a monster during her questing games, even if it was LI. She also never skipped any place (except Nik's temple lvl3) during her quests, even if i knew in advance that dangerous monsters were densely packed there (like the Hell ruined temple in act3 - any1 ever entered those temples solo without great hesitation?). All Hell quests (including black book, baal, etc) were finished on her very first attempt.

Because she had only 180+ defense, every monster (act1 Fallens included) in Hell had 95% chance to hit her. Ironically, she probably never got a close call - not even close to that - throughout the entire game. SM + merc + DS = kill all LI's = she was able to go and kill just about everywhere.

the only problem when playing that trapper was that i could sleep while playing my zon (so she got Pk'ed) but couldn't do so with the trapper.

I created that trapper on a Monday night on Useast HCL some time in Nov last year, and she solo obtained the guardian title on the next Monday night - 8 days in total were used to get from lvl 1 to lvl 83+.

As my exp has proven, 1.10 PvM trapper is born to defeat the game with ease. No MF or trade or top gear is ever needed. The game provides more than enough resources to help her defeat the game.

hehe....i totally agree with you ....
i started my asn right after the ladder reset...she had the worst items, but she can solo hell just at 8x lvl, i forgot....
i think she is the best character for newbie or people who just start playing the new ladder =D
enjoy

I wanted to do a trapper last season, but got frustrated by how slow going it was with leveling her (this was also HCL) but it seems like a fun build. Maybe once I finish off my MF'er this season I'll beg/trade/cajole one of the people on my f list to give me a rush. Always had a thing for assassins...

Here are a few tips for anyone who wants to play an HCL PvM trapper (or a SC trapper who just doesn't want to die):

1- As a PvM trapper, instead of BoS, she should really use Fade throughout NM and Hell.

a. BoS will speed up your laying traps, but it is unnecessary because you can only have up to 5 traps out at any time. When I play my trappers (particularly when they are in Hell), I constantly push forward, so I constantly override my traps. I can never be patient enough to wait for any traps to shoot their max times, so I rarely have the "urgency" that I have to lay 5 traps before the 2nd trap starts to shoot.

b. BoS can increase your run/walk speed, but you can easily get 40% faster R/W from your gear, which is already good enough.

c. With 1 pt in Fade, an asn will eventually get well over 50% resists all as well as other bonuses from it. This will allow her to carry a lot more MF% and/or have a lot more +life/mana than if she had to get 50% resists all from her gear.

To me, the speed my trappers lay traps when completedly naked is the right speed they need. Slower is bad, but faster is not better.

2- MB can actually slow down a trapper a lot - not only in party but also when she solo. If MB is of any help, SM has already taken advantage of it. In Hell, most of the time MB has only two uses:

a. When my merc is surrounded, I may choose to use MB to help him out.
b. When I'm bored, I may joke around by casting MB on top of SM's MB.

3- Unlike MB, CoS helps a lot in Hell - regardless of party or solo.

4- To pure PvM trappers, C/C is always better than C/S.

In SC, +6 trap with 2 claws should really be a "standard" for a high lvl trapper. In HC, wielding a +3 trap claw and a +2 all skill claw is a nice alternative. With that alternative dual-wielding, the asn has -1 to trap skills, but the extra +2 to shadow skills can help her more on the defensive side when she's in combat.

5- A C/C trapper had better get some FHR if she solo in most difficult places.

6- 30% faster run/walk is a minimum for my trappers. More is better, but not absolutely necessary.

7- FB is not the only way of dealing with LIs when solo in Hell. She is able to go through Hell without using it.

8- I choose equipment for my trappers to (in the order of priority):

a. cover her resists after counting in Fade effects;
b. add her trap and then shadow skills
c. have extra mana and then life
d. have faster R/W and then FHR
e. have MF (the higher % the better)

The equipment that my HCL season 1 trapper worn at lvl 83 when she killed Hell Baal had zero trade value (all junks, if you would), but that gear did not suck at all! I carefully "optimized" her gear (well... using "junks", if you would). In that gear at lvl 83, she had 1.4K life / 300-400 mana, full resists in Hell with Fade, some MF, fast and agile. I could give her much better items, but I didn't feel she would ever need more. So I muled almost all the goodies she found during her quests, leaving herself in poor gear thoughout the game.
