EDIT by Naliworld: The IAS tables are directly below. If you want to learn about the actual mechanics of finding framebreaks, consult the link a few paragraphs below
Just thought i'd throw these up seeing as how we get alot of questions concerning kicks and IAS/BoS levels.
They are done the same way as fuzzbox's tables, just expanded to include more WSMs and also corrects the Dtalon follow-up kick table(EDIT by Naliworld: the below link also includes detailed mechanics on how such attack speeds are found, as well as many cross-class skills like Zeal & Werebear speeds):
http://e.domaindlx.com/JRichard/D2/aas22/
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
In all of these tables, WSMs are listed along the top (topmost row) and BoS levels are listed on the far left (leftmost column)
Notes:
Abbreviations used:
BoS = Burst of Speed, the speed-increasing Assassin skill
WSM = Weapon Speed Modifier, commonly referred to as the 'base speed' of a weapon (it's not something you see in-game: you have to look up the WSM of the weapon in question, i.e. a Runic Talon (http://www.battle.net/diablo2exp/items/elite/katars.shtml) would have a WSM of -30. It's under the "Speed for Assassin" column)
IAS = Increased Attack Speed. In this guide, IAS refers only to the IAS found on equipment (i.e. that 30% IAS on your claw), not BoS's bonus, which is counted as EIAS
EIAS = Effective Increased Attack Speed. What the game actually uses to determine the framebreak you reach. BoS bonuses count as EIAS, and equipment IAS bonuses go through a diminishing returns formula to turn into EIAS. For details, see the next of this thread
Strike Chargeup = refers to Tiger Strike, Cobra Strike and Phoenix Strike
Elemental Chargeup = refers to Fists of Fire, Blades of Ice and Claws of Thunder
- Note that these tables can only help you find combinations that get you to the fastest framebreak for a specific attack. If you're looking to find out how much IAS/BoS is takes to get to the second fastest or slower framebreak, scroll down a few posts until you get to the EIAS tables.
- IAS on secondary claw will not work with any attacks except WW and Normal Attack.
- Whenever you're C/C(doesn't matter which attack, except for WW* and the Strike chargeups**), remember to average the WSMs of both claws(i.e. if you use a Runic Talon and a Suwayyah, your effective WSM would be -15).
However, things get a fair bit complicated if you deviate from the normal order of equipping claws(the normal order being: 1) equip your primary claw on the glove-side weapon slot first, 2) followed by secondary claw on boot-side weapon slot second). I'll refer you to JRichard's thorough explanation (http://e.domaindlx.com/JRichard/D2/aas22/aas22gm.html) for details(under 'Dual Wielding Claws' heading).
*For WW, refer to the tables in the next post
**For the Strike chargeups, use only the WSM of your primary claw(ignore secondary claw WSM)
Instructions:
To use these tables effectively in order to determine how much equipment IAS/weapon WSM/BoS level you will need in order to get to the fastest framebreak for a specific attack, you need to have two variables and one constant in mind, out of three values; BoS level, equipment IAS and weapon WSM.
For example, I know that I will be using a single Jade Talon (-10 WSM) - my constant, so I want to find out which combination of BoS level and equipment IAS (my two variables) will be easiest to achieve, in order to get to the fastest framebreak with a Strike chargeup(the first table in this post). So, since my WSM is constant, I will focus on the column that denotes the -10 WSM(the topmost row denotes WSM, the leftmost column denotes BoS level). The numbers in the -10 WSM column denote various numbers of equipment IAS which, together with the BoS level denoted for each row as you scroll down, will get to to the fastest speed for this attack.
Coming back to the example, assume further that I decide that the most IAS I will be getting on my equipment is 20%, from a socketed Shael rune in the Jade Talon. So, I will look for the number in the -10 WSM column that is that is either the same as 20, or slightly lower. I find the number 19, a number of rows down. To find out what level of BoS will need, I will scroll the table to the left. It turns out that the BoS level of "9" corresponds to the IAS number of 19(recall, the leftmost column denotes BoS level). Hence, I have found one of many combinations of equipment IAS, BoS level, and weapon WSM that will get me to the fastest speed for this attack; 19 IAS (20 in my case since you can't get 19% IAS ingame), level 9 BoS and -10 WSM respectively.
To answer a few potential questions, you may be wondering how it is possible to get level 0 BoS (the topmost row in the BoS column). It isn't, but the 0 BoS is there as a reference for Assassins who do not use BoS (i.e. using Fade instead). You may also be wondering what weapon has a WSM of -60. Only two do, the Chu-Ko-Nu, and its elite counterpart the Demon Crossbow. Despite this, even tables that refer to claw-only attacks stretch to -60, just in case Blizzard decides to add a claw of that WSM in a future patch.

*What is modified WSM? It's basically the WSM of your claw(eg. you would use 0 here if you used a Scissors Suwayyah), minus the amount of IAS you have on your weapon. In short, Modified WSM = WSM of claw - Weapon IAS.
Here are a few examples:
1) Scissors Suwayyah with 15% IAS from a jewel. Modified WSM = 0 - 15 = -15. So, this claw would reach the speed cap of 4 frames with WW.
2) War Fist with 10% IAS. Modified WSM = 10 – 10 = 0. So, this claw would only reach 6 frames with WW.
3) Runic Talon(no IAS). Modified WSM = -30 - 0 = -30. So, this claw would reach the speed cap of 4 frames with WW with plenty to spare.
Also note, IAS outside your weapon does not work with WW.
------------
EIAS --> IAS conversion formula:
EIAS = (120*IAS)/(120+IAS)
IAS --> EIAS conversion formula:
IAS = (120*EIAS)/(120-EIAS)
Note: Speed bonuses from BoS already count as EIAS, whereas IAS on equipment needs to be converted to EIAS using the second formula in order to be used on the below tables.
Also, you need to figure in the WSM of your weapon into these tables. For example, if you have a WSM of 20, that denotes an EIAS penalty of 20 EIAS(in effect, minus off 20 from the EIAS you have from other sources). If you have a WSM of -10, that denotes an EIAS bonus of 10 EIAS(in effect, add 10 to the EIAS you have from other sources).

The links in the first post should be working now also.

Thanks a lot mate.
Now I realize I dont need neither chaos nor Fury claws to reach 7/3 kick w/o BoS, shaeled bartuc on seconday slot as dominant and catseye will do:
WSM=(-30+-10)/2 + -30 - -10 =-20-20=-40
Reading tables above, with 29 ias I reach the mark.
Thanks again!
P.S. Anyway, if any assa mate has an spare chaos and feels like sharing withme, it will be very wellcome :creep:

Slight error.
I had a typo in one of the forumulas used to figure the IAS amounts needed in these tables. The good news is the error was to the side of saying more is needed than actually is.
Nali, would it be possible to just edit these new tables into this post and get rid of the old ones? Also, if you could delete the links i gave to my pages with these tables. I'm not at my computer, so i don't have the pages updated. Thanks.

HI.
I'm worried about this info about putting primarry claw in left and right side of the screen - why the differences are so huge :O. Please can anyone say that's true ?
And if someone could explain why this happpen. Is that a bug or something else ?
Anyway this is great info page :).

To my mind it's a bug. The same thing happens with dual wielding barbs. When you equip your first weapon on the right side of the inventory screen, the WSM of the setup becomes the average of the two plus the difference between the two. I think it's a bug mainly because when you use the weapon switch to change to a different setup, when you switch back the claws will revert to the one on the left side of the inventory screen being primary.

:o Oops...sorry for the late update, Jrichard. Tables have been updated. I've also added in the Trap speed tables and EIAS table for DC/CoT/FoF/BoI.
You wouldn't happen to have made a BoI/IAS table for DC/CoT/FoF/BoI yet, would you? :p

I'll make one up today and post it nali.

I know this is a pain, but what would the IAS Tables look like for an assa with a lvl 9 Fanat aura, would you still need BoS to hit the 7 frame attack with DTalon???

@ vindictive,
With a level 9 Fanaticism, the main kick would use the same chart as is listed for the secondary kicks.

Nali, how 'bout i put this all in html format and we see if Elly will put it up somewhere and then just link to it? Might make it easier to find what a person wants. I could just make a separate page for each with an EIAS chart and the BoS/IAS chart on it. Either that, or we could delete this thread and just post a new one with everything on one post, up to you.

Sure, putting it in HTML format would be a good idea. I could talk to Elly about updating the current IAS page (http://www.diabloii.net/characters/assassin/ias.shtml) your tables, in addition to a EIAS table page that would be linked from there. All credit will be accounted for, of course.
Until the tables are converted to HTML, I'll edit over all your tables in the 3rd(or fourth?) post onto the first post.

Hmm, change of plans Nali.
After a few months of frustration, i think we've finally gotten an equation to model the animations for DC, BoI, CoT, and FoF which means the update to the attack speed document is underway. I plan on including pages containing all the speed charts for all weapon types in the new version, so i'll just post those when i get done. I'll put it on my website, but would have no problem with it if Elly would be willing to also post the pages here.

this is still all very confusing, so could someone help me out, how much ias would i need for fastest and second fastest frame of attack with dragon claw using 2 jade talons, and jade talon/ bartuc combo. or could someone point me out to a calculator or something

An old sticky in the about Kicks and IAS thread says that you can get subsequent kicks at 2frames per attack. I'm not sure if 2 frames was ever possible, is still possible, was possible in the Beta but not now... Anyway I'd like some clarity on it, and possibly to edit that old post if 3 frames is the fastest subsequent kick.
Dtalon’s subsequent kicks have different break points. 0 to 24 EIAS puts them at 4 frames. 25 to 66 EIAS makes for 3 frame follow up kicks. 67+ EIAS will get you 2 frame follow up kicks. --JRICHARD, http://www.rpgforums.net/showthread.php?t=127905

Lex,
sorry, i'm in the midst of updating the attack speed and kicking stickies.
Two frames have actually never been possible with Dtalon's subsequent kicks. The explanation is rather long and involved, so i won't go into it here. I am going into it in the update to the attack speed sticky. Basically, the equation for figuring the fpa of an entire attack cannot be use to figure the fpa of dtalon's subsequent kicks. If it is used, you get a result of 2 fpa being possible. I never checked when i wrote the kicking document. It was widely accepted and i never questioned it. Brianc84 did question it and it failed to hold up under testing. The animation data supports 2 frames not being possible. I'm hoping to get the Attack speed sticky updated in the next week and the kicking document should be done shortly thereafter. All kicking speed information will be pulled out of the kicking document. For that information, i'm just going to refer everyone to the updated attack speed document. Be patient with me, i'll get it done. :)

JRichard,
No problem. I had faith in you. But I know that everyone is wrong sometimes and that a lot of times we base things on how we think they work instead of how they actually work.
I'm just glad we are getting it right now.

Wow !! Wondeful JRichad !!!
How have you find the C/C WSM formula ? That would seem to mean that it's a lot better to place your quickest claw first on the right of the character screen, if I understand well ?
Another question : IAS on claws are not average, are they ? Only the IAS of the primary claw is taken into count, am I right ?
Sorry for asking all these questions, but i've been told (and i believe i'm not the only one, government denies knowledge :p ) so many diferent things about how was determined the C/C speed ... (in fact nobody was really sure about how it worked, it was more some empiric laws, but that does not lessen their job !)
Thx alot for all these answers, and great again for your job !

hey duncan,
With a lot of help from Brianc84 the c/c WSM forumulas were worked out mainly by looking at how the speed of the animal charge-ups were affected. For setups in which the inventory screen left claw is equipped first the WSMs are averaged normally. For setups in which the inventory screen right claw is equipped first it becomes more messy. The formula is:
(right_WSM + left+WSM)/2 + (right_WSM - left_WSM)
So, basically it's the average of the two plus the difference between the two. You're right in thinking that the WSM is faster if you place your quickest claw in the inventory screen right slot first, but remember that you will have to reset your claws everytime you weapon switch as the game will default to the inventory screen left claw as primary when you switch back.
Anyway, once that was worked out, it became a matter of finding the sequence animation data for the c/c attacks (FoF, CoT, BoI, and DC). That took some time as they are hard-coded in the .dlls, not in the text files. In the end, testing and digging came up with this for animation data:
Animation speed = 256
Drawn frames = 16
base = 70
That all goes into this equation:
fpa = {(256*Drawn_frames)/[(Animation_speed*(base+EIAS)/100)]}
{} = ceiling function
[ ] = floor function
The (base+EIAS) part of this equation is capped at 175
That's probably more than you wanted to know :lol: , but due to a couple of computer crashes i haven't gotten the new attack speed web pages completed so i thought i'd post the info.
On your second question, no, the IAS isn't averaged from the two claws. Only the IAS on the primary claw counts towards your attack speed for all attacks except the normal attack.

Seeing as how I haven't gotten the webpages for the new attack speed document done yet, I thought I'd try to put the information in a series of posts. Hopefully, I'll get the webpages done soon and we can just link to them rather than making everyone scroll through a long series of posts to find what they are looking for.
General Mechanics
To try and get everyone on the same page to begin with, let's talk a little about happens when you attack a monster.
First of all, the game has to determine which attack animation to use. This depends on both the attack you have selected and the weapon type you are using. Once the animation is chosen, the game uses the parameters of that animation to setup a counter. The data about the animation provides the terminating value, and increment value for this counter. This counter will be incremented every game frame and will run until the terminating value is reached. Once that terminating value is reached, the game looks for the next animation, resets the counter and terminating values and begins the next animation. There is always a next animation, by the way. The game has animation files for everything your character does. Walking, running, blocking, attacking, hit recovery, even standing still has an animation file.
That's a very brief and general description of what happens when you attack. I'm going to expand on this quite a bit in the rest of this post. In posts that follow, I'll apply what we talk about in this post to specific attacks. If you've read this far and realized that you really have no interest in what I'm describing, bail out now. It gets worse before it gets better.
So, let's begin expanding on my brief description of an attack. First came this: “First of all, the game has to determine which attack animation to use. This depends on both the attack you have selected and the weapon type you are using.”. Think of this like the directory structure on your computer. We have a folder called "Assassin Animations". Inside of that folder would be a number of subfolders which list the animation types. Inside of every folder naming an animation type is a list of subfolders which list the usable weapons types for each animation type. Confusing maybe, but here's a list of animation and weapon types:
Animation types Weapon types
A1 – Attack 1 1HS - One Handed Swinging (axes, swords, flails, maces, hammers, clubs and wands)
A2 – Attack 2 1HT - One Handed Thrusting/Throwing* (Daggers, javelins, potions)
BL – Blocking 2HS - Two Handed Swords (swords)
GH – Get hit(hit recovery) 2HT - Two Handed Thrusting (All Spear class weapons)
DD - Death BOW – Bows (All Bow class weapons)
DT – Death Throe HT1 - Single wielded katars (Katar, Claw, Scissors type assassin class weapons)
KK - Kick HT2 - Dual wielded katars (Katar, claw, scissors type assassin class weapons)
NU – Neutral(outside of town) HTH - Hand to Hand (Bare fists)
RN - Run XBW – Crossbows (All Crossbow class weapons)
S1 – Skill 1 STF - Two handed Swinging (Staves, polearms, axes, mauls)
S2 – Skill 2 *Note that throwing axes are not in this weapon type, they are in the one handed swinging weapon type
S3 – Skill 3
S4 – Skill 4
SC – Spell casting
TH – Get Hit(in town)
TN – Neutral(in town)
TW – Walk(in town)
WL – Walk(outside of town)
If you're sitting there thinking that the various possible combinations of all of these would make for a rather large number of animation files, you'd be right. This game contains a huge number of files for animating the characters and monsters. These aren't even all of them. There is also an animation type called “sequence”. A sequence animation can contain all or part of any of the combinations of the above listed types. An example of one of these sequence animations for assassins would be the Dragon Flight skill which uses parts of the SC (spell cast) animations and the KK (kick) animation. Sequence animations carry parameters all their own and don't use the parameters of the animations which make them up.
Next in the brief description that began this came: “Once the animation is chosen, the game uses the parameters of that animation to setup a counter. The data about the animation provides the terminating value, and increment value for this counter.”. What are these parameters? Well, they are:
AnimationSpeed
DrawnFrames
From these two things we can setup the counter's terminating value and the increment value. Let's start with the terminating value. It is found with a very simple equation: Terminating_value = 256 * DrawnFrames. Easy, isn't it? If DrawnFrames = 1, the terminating value equals 256. If DrawnFrames = 4, the terminating value equals 1024. Almost too simple! Don't worry, though. The means to figure the increment value makes up for this being so simple.
Firguring what this counter will be incremented by uses the formula you may or may not have already seen for attack speeds.
Increment = Animationspeed * (base + EIAS) / 100
Make sure you do the multiplication before the division in this equation, then drop whatever decimals you get from the division. “Base” in this equation depends on what animation type you are using. For all assassin animation types except blocking, hit recovery and sequence animations it will be 100. For blocking and hit recovery animations it is 50 and for sequence animations it is 70. The values for base are set in the game files and can't be affected by equipment. Also, the value for (base + EIAS) is capped at 175. That's why attacks have a maximum speed. Once you get to the cap, it will not change your attack speed if you get more IAS, higher levels of BoS, or a weapon with a faster base speed.
EIAS
EIAS – EIAS stands for Effective Increased Attack Speed. Your amount of EIAS is found with this equation:
EIAS = skill_IAS – WSM +((120*equipment_IAS)/(120 + equipment_IAS))
Skill_IAS refers to the bonus given to attack speed by BoS or Fanaticism. The value added by BoS is given in an equation listed in skillcalc.txt. The equation is as follows:
skill_IAS = ((110 * lvl) * (b-a))/((100 * (lvl +6)) + 15
Lvl in this equation refers to the level at which BoS is cast. The variables b and a are given in Skills.txt as the maximum and minimum increases and are 60 and 15. b=60 and a=15. You need to drop decimals from the results of this equation whenever you divide and also at the end of it. The results gotten from this equation differ from what is listed in the skill description in-game at severel points. Level 1 BoS and level 8 BoS are two of those points. My testing has shown that you need to use the amount gotten from the equation rather than what is listed in the skill description. This difference has caused errors in many IAS tables including some of the ones listed in previous posts in this thread. As a part of this, I will be going through those and posting corrected charts.
WSM stands for Weapon Speed Modifier. This is often referred to as the weapon's base speed. I feel that WSM is a much better description of what this value does. It directly modifies the EIAS value. This number is subtracted in the equation above, that means that the lower this number is, the higher you EIAS value will be. A WSM of -30 would increase your EIAS by 30, ie if you had EIAS of 40 when using a 0 WSM weapon, you'd have an EIAS value of 70 if you switched to a -30 WSM weapon. Just for completeness's sake, if you had EIAS of 40 when using a 0 WSM weapon, you'd have and EIAS value of 30 if you switched to a 10 WSM weapon. This is another reason why I like referring to this value as the Weapon Speed Modifier instead of the base speed. It makes less sense to think of a base speed that is lower as being faster. Much more sense is made to me if we think of this as simply a modifier for our EIAS.
Equipment_IAS. This refers to the IAS modifier you may have on your equipment. It includes all types of IAS modifiers whether we are talking about Shael runes, jewels of Fervor, or magical suffixes on the item. IAS which is located on your equipment has to go through a diminishing returns formula. It does not directly affect your EIAS value. That diminishing returns formula is what is listed as the last part of the EIAS formula, the part in parentheses:
((120 * equipment_IAS)/(120 + equipment_IAS))
When using this forumula to figure how much EIAS a given amount of IAS will add to your setup, you must use the total amount of IAS on your equipment. You can't just take the amount of IAS you plan on adding, convert it to EIAS, and add it to the EIAS total. I see this mistake being made all the time when converting IAS to EIAS. Let me explain it a little better by using an example.
Let's say you have a setup using a 0 WSM weapon, no BoS, and you have 40 IAS on your equipment. Right now, you would have an EIAS value of:
EIAS = skill_IAS – WSM + ((120 * equipment_IAS)/( 120 + equipment_IAS))
EIAS = 0 – 0 +((120 * 40)/(120 + 40))
EIAS = 4800 / 160
EIAS = 30
So, we start out with EIAS of 30. Let's say we want to add two Shael runes to our weapon. That's an additional 40 IAS. The mistake gets made when players try to just convet that 40 additional IAS to EIAS and then add it to the 30 EIAS we started with. If we do that, we'll figure that the extra 40 IAS will add 30 more EIAS to our setup giving us a total of 60 EIAS. The reality is different. Here's what the total for EIAS would actually be:
EIAS = skill_IAS – WSM + ((120 * equipment_IAS)/( 120 + equipment_IAS))
EIAS = 0 – 0 +(( 120 * 80)/(120 + 80))
EIAS = 9600 / 200
EIAS = 48
That's quite a difference! Remember, in order to convert IAS to EIAS you need to add all your sources of IAS together and convert them just once. They cannot be converted separately.
Dual Wielding Claws. When dual wielding claws, both EIAS and equipment IAS becomes just a little more complicated so I gave this subject a little space of its own. First, you need to know which of your claws is the primary claw and which is the secondary claw. Normally, the claw that you equip first is your primary claw and the second claw you equip is the secondary claw. This changes if you equip the first claw on the right side of the inventory screen and then use the weapon switch feature to change to a different setup or die and go retrieve your body. When you switch back to the original setup, the claw on the left side of the inventory screen will become the primary as the game defaults to this. Going strictly off of this it may seem as if I'm saying that you should always equip your first claw in the inventory-left position. This is not always true. There is a bug (imo) with dual wielding weapons which could make equipping the first claw in the inventory-right position advantageous.
This bug occurs with figuring your WSM for a dual wield setup. If the inventory-claw is equipped first, your WSM for figuring your EIAS will be the average of the WSMs of the two weapons. For example, when using a claw with a WSM of -30 and equipping it first in the inventory-left position and using a 10 WSM claw and equipping it second in the inventory-right position, the WSM you would use for figuring you EIAS would be -10 (the average of -30 and 10). If you take those same two claws and equip the -30 WSM claw first and in the inventory-right position with the 10 WSM claw second and in the inventory-left position, the WSM for figuring your EIAS would be -50, much faster! Why? Well, when equipping the inventory-right claw first, the WSMs are not just averaged, instead they are averaged and then the difference between the two is added to that average. The equation looks like this:
(inventory_right_WSM + inventory_left_WSM)/2 + (inventory_right_WSM – inventory_left_WSM)
Getting messy, isn't it? Here's the numbers ran through that equation:
(-30 + 10)/2 +(-30 – 10)
(-20)/2 + (-40)
(-10) + (-40)
-50
Just for kicks, let's run the numbers once again, but this time we'll equip the 10 WSM claw first and in the inventory-right position and the -30 WSM claw second and in the inventory_left position.
(inventory_right_WSM + inventory_left_WSM)/2 + (inventory_right_WSM – inventory_left_WSM)
(10+ (-30)) / 2 + (10 - (-30))
(-20) / 2 + (40)
(-10) + 40
30
Wow, much slower than the average. So, we can state a couple of things about equipping the inventory- right claw first:
1.If you equip a lower WSM claw first, you will end up with lower WSM than the average.
2.If you equip a higher WSM claw first, you will end up with a higher WSM than the average.
3.The greater the difference between the WSMs of the two claws, the larger the effect of this bug.
4.If you weapon switch, you will have to open the inventory screen up and reset your claws in order to retain the benefits of using this bug.
It is completely up to you if you want to take advantage of this bug, personally I think it's too much of a hassle to deal with for the results.
The effect of dual wielding claws on IAS is much simpler. Only the IAS on your primary claw will affect your attack speed. Just that. Nothing more. Like I said, it's much simpler.
That's all the more I'm going to mention this dual wield business where it concerns WSM and IAS. If you don't understand an of it, feel free to ask questions.
I'm out of time for this first post, I'll post again later tonight to continue.

OK. I'll have to see what it makes with a dual wielder sin, with Nat and Bartuc :
Bartuc : -30 WSM / +0% IAS
Nat Mark : 0 WSM / +40% IAS
So if my primary claw is Nat Mark, it's better to place it on the left (since its WSM is way higher than Bartuc's). So the 'average WSM' is then -15. The primary claw will always be Nat Mark (no need to reorder the claws when i swap, take a WP, etc ...), and I'll benefit from the +40% IAS
If my primary claw is Bartuc's, it's then better to place it on the right to benefit from that 'perhaps-bug'. So then the 'average WSM' is (-30+0)/2 + (-30-0) = -15 -30 = -45, with no IAS bonus since my 1st claw is Bartuc. But i'll have to be careful everytime I swap. Let's have a look on the bkpoints ;)

Thx nali!
I'm not going to edit this too much as i still am working on the webpages. I just happen to be away from my computer for another few days and thought i'd kill some free time until i get back home by posting some info that will be in those pages to get feedback. I'm doing this all from memory, so it's bound to be rough.
To continue where i left off:
Finally in the brief description that began this was this: “This counter will be incremented every game frame and will run until the terminating value is reached. Once that terminating value is reached, the game looks for the next animation, resets the counter and terminating values and begins the next animation.”. Before I get into anything else in this part of this rambling discourse, I need to talk about the usage of the word “frames”. When dealing with animations and attack speeds, this word is used to two different ways.
1. It's used in reference to the individual still images which make up the animations. The parameter DrawnFrames is acutally the count of how many of these still images make up a given animation. Most generally, whenever I used the word frames with this meaning in mind I will say Aframes.
2. It's also used as a measure of time. Diablo 2 runs at 25 frames per second. This means that the game updates your screen 25 times every second or once every .04 seconds. This cannot be changed. If you use the “/fps” command in game, you might see that it lists a frames per second value higher than 25. That just means that your system is capable of more updates, not that you are getting more updates from the server. The 25 frames per second speed is in the programming and cannot be changed. This is actually a good thing. It gives us a constant base from which to work. When you see a statement that an attack has a speed of 7 frames per attack, it means that the attack takes 7 of these updates to complete. In the end, any document focused on attack speeds is really about how to increase and decrease how many of these updates it takes to complete an attack. Most documents or posts which deal with animation information use the word “ticks” (as in tick-tock goes the clock) when referring to frames with this meaning in mind. I'll stick to that in these posts as it seems to me to be very easy to remember the association.
I also want to mention that from this point on, I will just refer to EIAS. I am not going to revisit any of the explanations on how it is figured. If you don't understand the difference between EIAS and IAS or how WSMs and BoS are figured into to it, or even how dual wielding claws affects EIAS, then I will just direct you back my previous post for the explanation. Feel free to ask questions, I'll answer them as I can, but I won't be bringing any of that up in the rest of these main posts. I do that for a reason. All of that is confusing enough without spreading it all throughout these posts. I felt it would be better to just deal with it in one place and move on.
Speaking of moving on, it's time I did just that. I've talked a lot about this counter, but what is its purpose? Is it solely a means to let the game know when to end an attack animation? No. The counter also tells the game which Aframe of an animation it should show. That might require a bit more of an explanation. :)
I mentioned above that the parameter DrawnFrames is actually the count of how many still images the game has access to in order to display a given animation. Which one of these is shown depends on the value of the counter. Look again at the equation for figuring the terminating value of the counter:
terminating_value = 256 * DrawnFrames
Say we have an animation with a DrawnFrames = 5. That would give us a terminating value of 1280. We have 5 possible still images that can be shown. That leaves us with 5 counter ranges for determining which one is actually displayed. These ranges would be:
0-255
256-511
512-767
768-1023
1023-1279
The value of 1280 isn't included in this list because once the counter hits that value, the animation is over! The Aframes which make up an animation are numbered from 0, not 1. So, going from the list of ranges above we can say that if the counter's value is 0-255, Aframe 00 is shown. If the value is 256-511, Aframe 01 is shown. Here is a list of counter value ranges and the Aframe which is shown at those ranges:
Counter value AFrame displayed Counter value AFrame displayed
0 - 255 00 3328 - 3583 13
256 - 511 01 3584 - 3839 14
512 - 767 02 3840 - 4095 15
768 - 1023 03 4096 - 4351 16
1024 - 1279 04 4352 - 4607 17
1280 - 1535 05 4608 - 4863 18
1536 - 1791 06 4864 - 5119 19
1792 - 2047 07 5120 - 5375 20
2048 - 2303 08 5376 - 5631 21
2304 - 2559 09 5632 - 5887 22
2560 - 2815 10 5888 - 6143 23
2816 - 3071 11 6144 - 6399 24
3072 - 3327 12
What this means is that if we know the value of the counter at any given point, we can determine which Aframe is being displayed by dividing the counter value by 256 and dropping any decimals. For example, if the counter has a value of 3456, we can just divide that by 256 to come up with 13.5, drop the decimal and we know that Aframe 13 is being shown. I prefer just looking it up on my chart. :)
Now we have the information needed to run through an attack animation. We'll stick to using our hypothetical attack with 5 drawn frames. We'll add an animation speed of 256, 0 EIAS, and a base of 100.
So, we click the mouse button. The game looks up the animation which fits our class, attack, and weapon setup. The parameters for the attack are:
AnimationSpeed = 256
DrawnFrames = 5 ( this means we have 5 Aframes numbered from 00 to 04)
base = 100
EIAS = 0
The terminating value is figured using: Terminating_value = 256* DrawnFrames = 256*5 = 1280
The increment is calculated using: Increment = AnimationSpeed * (base + EIAS) / 100 = 256*(100 + 0) / 100=256*100/100 = 256
The counter is reset to 0
Now, the animation begins.
Game tick 1
the counter is incremented, counter now equals 256
is the counter >=1280? no animation continues
Aframe 01 is displayed (check the chart from above, counter value of 256-511 means frame 01)
Game tick 2
the counter is incremented, counter now equals 512
is the counter >=1280? no
Aframe 02 is displayed
Game tick 3
the counter is incremented, counter now equals 768
is the counter >= 1280? no
Aframe 03 is displayed
Game tick 4
the counter is incremented, counter now equals 1024
is the counter >= 1280? no
Aframe 04 is displayed
Game tick 5
the counter is incremented, counter now equals 1280
is the counter >=1280? YES
Animation over, look up data for next animation, figure terminating and increment values, reset counter and begin the animation ON THIS TICK.
Game tick 5 becomes the first tick of the next animation. That means that our hypothetical animation started and showed it's last Aframe in 4 ticks. Game tick 5 became the first tick of the next animation and is not counted towards the speed of our hypothetical one. The speed of our animation with 0 EIAS is 4 fpa. Make a big note that frame 00 was never displayed. If the increment value equals 256 or more, frame 00 will never be displayed. That holds true of all animations.
This was a pretty simplistic example. Let's alter a few things and see what happens. We'll run three more of these side by side for comparison. Everything will stay the same except the EIAS values will be varied. We'll use -1 EIAS, 24 EIAS, and 25 EIAS. (Odd choices? Methinks i chose them for a reason. :) )
Our terminating value stays the same, 1280.
The increments will be different.
For the -1 EIAS example, the increment value will be: 256*(100 + (-1)) / 100 = 256*99/100 = 253
For the 24 EIAS example, the increment value will be: 256*(100+24)/100 = 256*124/100 = 317
For the 25 EIAS example, the increment value will be: 256*(100+25)/100 = 256*125/100 = 320
The animation begins.
Game tick 1
-1 EIAS example has counter value of 253 and displays Aframe 00
24 EIAS example has counter value of 317 and displays Aframe 01
25 EIAS example has counter value of 320 and displays Aframe 01
Game tick 2
-1 EIAS example has counter value of 506 and displays Aframe 01
24 EIAS example has counter value of 634 and displays Aframe 02
25 EIAS example has counter value of 640 and displays Aframe 02
Game tick 3
-1 EIAS example has counter value of 751 and displays Aframe 02
24 EIAS example has counter value of 951 and displays Aframe 03
25 EIAS example has counter value of 960 and displays Aframe 03
Game tick 4
-1 EIAS example has counter value of 1012 and displays Aframe 03
24 EIAS example has counter value of 1268 and displays Aframe 04
25 EIAS example has counter value of 1280 and animation is over
Game tick 5
-1 EIAS example has counter value of 1265 and displays Aframe 04
24 EIAS example has counter value of 1585 and animation is over
Game tick 6
-1 EIAS example has counter value of 1518 and animation is over
I chose those EIAS values for a reason. They are breakpoints for our hypothetical example. We already knew how the 0 EIAS value played out, it took 4 ticks to show the animation. The -1 EIAS value took 5 ticks to show the animation. So, the breakpoint between 4 and 5 ticks for this animation happens when going from -1 EIAS to 0 EIAS.
The 24 EIAS example took 4 ticks to complete just as did the 0 EIAS example. The 25 EIAS example only took 3 ticks to show the animation. Thus, the breakpoint between 3 and 4 ticks for this animation happens when going from 24 to 25 EIAS. If you have an EIAS value anywhere between 0 and 24 EIAS, the speed for this animation will be 4 ticks.
That is exactly how the EIAS tables I post work. The IAS/BoS tables i post don't work to figure anything but maximum attack speeds. They don't let you know what EIAS levels you need for any speed other than the maximum. I know many people struggle with reading them. Personally, I find the EIAS tables to be much more useful to me. I will manually figure my EIAS amounts and then just use those tables.
“But Jrichard, you post forumulas so often that we are sick of seeing your name on posts. Surely there is a formula to tell me my attack speed without having to look it up on a table?” Indeed there is! :) This has been the intended result of both of these posts so far, to allow me to post this following forumula:
fpa = {(256*DrawnFrames) / [AnimationSpeed*(base + EIAS)/100]}-1
{} indicates using a ceiling function
[ ] indicates using a floor function
Basically, divide our terminating value by our increment value and subtract one. The floor function means to drop any decimals you get when figuring the increment value and the ceiling function means to round to the next highest integer unless the result divides evenly to an integer already.
Wow, that was a lot of typing just to get that one equation out! Hopefully, though, all the typing will help to make that equation far more understandable. That's it for this post. Beyond this, I'll just give you the specific data for the assassin attacks and the tables to go with them. If there is any of this that is confusing, please ask about it as I will just be giving information in terms of what I've laid out here as the basics.

THE SKILLS
With this post, we begin talking about the skills in specific.
Dtalon
I'm going to start with Dragon Talon for a couple of reasons. First, figuring the speed of Dtalon will require knowing one other parameter of attack animations which I haven't talked about as of yet. Second, covering how to figure the multiple kicks of Dtalon will probably take the most time of any of the assassin attacks, so I figure we might as well get it done first.
The additional parameter which we need to know about in order to figure the speed of a Dtalon attack is called the FrameDataActionFlag. This parameter tells us on which Aframe the animations “action” happens. In the case of Dtalon, this tells us at what point during the kick animation the hit actually happens on. On most attacks, this parameter doesn't need to be known in order to figure the speed of the whole attack animation. Dtalon is, however, what is called a “rollback” attack. This means that in order to achieve the multiple kicks, the counter is rolled back and Aframes get repeated to generate multiple hits. Dtalon is what is called a 100% rollback attack. That means that the counter will be rolled back all the way to zero in order to repeat the animation for multiple kicks. We need to know where the hit acutally happens because that is where the animation has to play through to before it can be rolled back. If it didn't play through to that point, we could show multiple kicks, but wouldn't actually get the server to register damage for them. The FrameDataActionFlag for Dtalon is 04. That means the Aframe 04 is the where the animation must get to before we can begin the next kick. Looking at our chart of counter value ranges tells us that the counter must equal at least 1024 for the Aframe to be 04. That will be our counter target for repeating the intitial frames in order to repeat the kick. This maybe will be clearer if we just run through a 2 kick Dtalon example real quick.
The parameters for Dtalon:
AnimationSpeed = 256
DrawnFrames = 13 (numbered from 00 to 12)
FrameDataActionFlag = 04
base = 100
EIAS = 0 I'm going to run this through without EIAS affecting the speed this first time.
This leaves us with a terminating value of 3328 and an increment value of 256
So, let's get started.

animation over

start next animation on this tick.
As you can see from this, the first kick took from tick 1 to tick 4 to complete. The second kick took from tick 5 to tick 16 to complete. The animation as a whole took 16 ticks. However, Dtalon speeds are usually referred to by list the number of ticks it takes for the last kick followed by the number of ticks it takes to complete each of the initial kicks. So, the speed of our 2 kick Dtalon attack with 0 EIAS would be listed as 12/4. Due to this reverse notation, the kicks are generally referred to in the opposite of when the occur in reality. For our example, the 7 tick kick is usually called the main kick and the 4 tick kick is called the follow-up kick. This is despite the fact that the 4 tick kick actually takes place first. It's become the accepted way of talking about Dtalon kicks, so I don't argue the point that the notation would be much more accurate if the kick speed was listed as 4/7. Not that big of a deal to me.
An even better way to note Dtalon speed would be to call our 0 EIAS example a 4/8 Dtalon. That's 4 ticks for each kick and 8 ticks added on after the last kick to finish the animation. This works well for figuring the total number of ticks it takes to complete the whole animation. If you had a 6 kick talon, you have 6*4+8=32 ticks to complete the entire animation. I couldn't see this as being accepted very widely either as it runs contrary to the way the kicks are currently noted.
Next, I want to explain why it is not possible to get a 2 tick kick out of Dtalon. This has been debated over and over since patch 1.10 came out and far more people began using Dtalon. The majority of people playing Dtalon assassins on bnet still believe they can get 2 tick kicks out of Dtalon. So, let's look at this. First of all, I'll just run through the first part of a Dtalon attack with the maximum increment value you can get. Remember, the value of the (base+EIAS) part of the increment equation is capped at 175. This means we can find the fastest speed Dtalon is capable of if we just figure the increment with 175 put in place of this part of the equation.
Increment_value = AnimationSpeed * (base + EIAS) / 100 = 256*175/100=448
So, 448 is the highest value we can get for the increment with Dtalon. We won't get this animation to play any faster than this. Let's run through the first kick of a Dtalon attack with this as our increment.
Game tick 1
counter is incremented, counter = 448
is counter >=3328? No
Aframe 01 is shown
is counter >=1024? No
Game tick 2
counter is incremented, counter = 896
is counter >=3328? No
Aframe 03 is shown
is counter >=1024? No
Game tick 3
counter is incremented, counter = 1344
is counter >=3328? No
Aframe 05 is shown
is counter >=1024? YES
more actions needed?
Stop here. As you can see, even at the highest increment value you can have, it took 3 ticks to get to the point where the counter is rolled back and the next kick is started. Given the cap on the (base + EIAS) portion of the equation, it's impossible to attain 2 tick kicks. So how did it get so widely reported that it was possible to attain 2 tick kicks? I've given that answer already, it's just been spread out across everything I've posted so far.
At the end of most of the animation walkthroughs I given so far has been a line along these lines:
“start next animation on this tick.”
The tick where the terminating value is reached isn't counted in the speed of an attack animation. The equation I ended my last post with reflected this by subracting one at the end of the equation.
fpa = {(256*DrawnFrames) / [AnimationSpeed*(base + EIAS)/100]}-1
If that equation is applied to Dtalon's multiple kicks, it shows that 2 tick kicks are possible. However, look again at the end of the short Dtalon examples I've listed:
Game tick 4
counter is incremented, counter = 1024
is counter >=3328? No
Aframe 04 is shown
is counter>=1024? YES
More actions needed? YES
counter is rolled back to 0
Although the counter is rolled back to zero on this tick, the next animation for the next kick does not start on this tick, it starts on the next one. Thus, there is no need to subtract 1 at the end. Simple error, really. Unless one runs through the data as I just did for you or did some speed testing at or near the maximum increment value, it wouldn't be something you would really realize. I wish I had been the one to notice this all, but I wasn't. Brianc84 did a lot of testing after I posted the c/c attack speed basics document and found this answer.
Lastly, none of the parameters for the kick attacks change due to what weapon type you are using. For the non-kick attacks which I'll discuss in future posts, I'll have to give different parameters based on the weapon type being used. Not for Dtalon. Your weapon's WSM will matter when you figure you EIAS amount, but the animation parameters for DrawnFrames and AnimationSpeed won't be any different. So, for Dtalon, I can just give one set of parameters which will apply to any weapon you choose to use. Those parameters are:
AnimationSpeed = 256
DrawnFrames = 13
base = 100
FrameDataActionFlag = 04
I will post the EIAS and IAS/BoS tables for Dtalon in my next post, but for now, that's all. :) If you want, you now have all the data you need to figure those tables for yourself. I will be home late tomorrow night and I have these equations entered into a spreadsheet which generates the tables for me, so I'm going to wait until I can use that spreadsheet to post the tables.

FoF, CoT, BoI, and DC
Here is the parameters for these attacks when used with dual claws:
AnimationSpeed = 256
DrawnFrames = 16
Base = 70
Here are the parameters for these attacks when used with a single claw.
AnimationSpeed = 256
DrawnFrames = 12
Base = 70
First of all, these are sequence animations. Sequence animations take a penalty of 30 to their attack speed. That's why the base for these is listed as 70 instead of 100.
Next, sequence animations are a little bit different when it comes to the equation which figures your fpa. They don't have the “-1” at the end of the equation. It seems as if for these attacks, the frame is displayed before the counter's terminating value is checked. Therefore, the subtraction of 1 at the end is not needed.
All of these attacks require claw class weapons. FoF, CoT and BoI can all be used with either single or dual claws. DC can only be used with dual claws.

Anywhere you see the word "nope" in these tables means that to obtain fastest attack speed would require 120 or more EIAS and my conversion formula for EIAS to IAS gives a divided by zero error at those values.
Next, i'll do what i should have done in this post, DTail.
Nali, now that the basics are laid out, just posting the parameters and tables is pretty easy. I'll probably do quite a few in the next post rather than trying to make one post for every one of the attacks.

Jrichard: All tables updated, and I've added in the part about the specifics on DTalon speed at the bottom of the first post. :) I've also switched out the "nopes" to "N/A", to reduce confusion(if you want me to switch it back, let me know).
Where should I add in the part about the parameters of FoF/BoI/CoT/DC(the first part of the post before this), though? My intention is to put just the tables alone at the top of the post, for easy reference...

Nali: We might as well just put the info after the discussion of Dtalon. This is going to be a little messy done up as posts. Especially after I do the next post here in a few minutes. Lots of tables. I don't know how to make it all presentable without just separating it out into webpages like the plan is to do in the end. Thanks for the work you've put into this so far.
jrichard
edit: Oh yeah, one thing. I forgot to put on the FoF, CoT and BoI info that they can be used with no weapon. They would use the same table as the claw/shield one we've already got posted. sorry.

Dragon Tail
Here are the parameters for Dragon Tail:
AnimationSpeed = 256
DrawnFrames = 13
Base = 60
Notice the base. Dragon Tail carries with it an attack speed penalty of 40. This is equivalent to 40 EIAS. I just subracted it off of the base as base and EIAS are added together and base+EIAS-penalty is equal to (base-penalty) + EIAS. Dragon Tail is the has the worst frames/attack ratio of any of the assassins attacks. It's one of the prices you pay for the rather high damage numbers this skill is capable of producing. Other than the base being different, Dtail uses the exact same animation as Dtalon. Just as with Dtalon, the animation has the same AnimationSpeed and DrawnFrames regardless of what weapon type you use.
The EIAS for Dragon Tail looks like this:

Tiger Strike, Cobra Strike, Phoenix Strike and normal attack for non-claw weapons
Okay, so far we've gotten off easy as every attack we've talked about has either only been usable with claws or doesn't use different parameters based on weapon type. That ends here. These attacks are usable with any weapon. That means we are going to have to produce a number of different EIAS and BoS/IAS charts. We'll combine the ones which have matching parameters, but we're still going to have a few more of each. In addition, we need to cover claw class weapons and using these attacks barehanded separately as the parameters for TS, CS, and PS are different than for normal attacks. Normal attacks with claws are messy and will take some time to explain, especially when used with dual claws.
Our first group contains the one handed swinging and the one handed thrusting/throwing weapons. This includes a rather large group of weapons which include:
all one handed swords
all one handed axes
wands
one handed maces, flails, clubs, and hammers
javelins class weapons
daggers
The parameters for these weapons when using TS, CS, or PS are:
AnimationSpeed = 256
DrawnFrames = 15
Base = 100

Tiger Strike, Cobra Strike and Phoenix Strike for claw class weapons and barehanded
We'll start with the claw class weapons. The animation data is the same whether you use a single or dual claw setup as only one claw actually strikes even if you have two equipped. The parameters for claws when using these attacks are:
AnimationSpeed = 208
DrawnFrames = 11
base = 100
Notice that although the DrawnFrames is much lower, so is the AnimationSpeed. The EIAS tables when using these weapons with TS, CS, and PS are:

For those inclinded towards pugilism. The parameters for using these attacks with no weapon are:
AnimationSpeed = 256
DrawnFrames = 11
Base = 100
We have the same DrawnFrames as with the claw class weapons, but a much faster AnimationSpeed. These parameters are the same whether or not you have a shield equipped.

Spell Casting
Assassins use a spell casting animation when they use Psychic Hammer, Cloak of Shadows, and Mindblast. IAS, WSM, and BoS will not affect these animations. They are affected by items with the Faster Cast Rate mod on them. FCR works just like equipment IAS. It has to go through a diminishing returns formula before it can be applied to the speed of the spell casting animation. It's the same formula as is used by IAS to figure EIAS, it's just now we are figuring Effective Faster Cast Rate.
EFCR = (120 * FCR)/(120 + FCR)
And just as with EIAS, we can convert the opposite way with this formula:
FCR = (120 * EFCR)/(120-EFCR)
Using these formulas and the parameters for the spell casting animation, which are:
AnimationSpeed = 256
DrawnFrames = 17
Base = 100
We can produce an FCR table for assassins. The table is:
FCR Fpa
0 16
8 15
16 14
27 13
42 12
65 11
102 10
174 9
Spell casting speed is the same regardless of what weapon type you are using.
Hit Recovery and Blocking
Just as we did with spell casting, we can do the same with Faster Block Rate and Faster Hit Recovery.
The parameters for the blocking animation are:
AnimationSpeed = 256
DrawnFrames = 3
Base = 50
Notice the base for the blocking animation! The FBR table is:
FBR Frames
0 5
13 4
32 3
86 2
600 1
The parameters for the hit recovery animation are:
AnimationSpeed = 256
DrawnFrames = 5
Base = 50
Once again, take note of the base! The FHR table is:

I didn't think this would all go into one post!
This has, I believe brought me to the point where all I have left is to talk about using Dragon Flight and Normal attack with claws and barehands. I don't think I'm going to tackle that tonight. My next post will finish that up.
If any of you have actually read through all of this I have a comment for you and a request. The comment is this: Wow, you must have as little of an outside life as I do right now! :) The request is to let me know your opinions of what needs to be explained in a more clear manner. Any suggestions anyone has, I'll listen to. After this comes putting the stuff in these posts into a set of webpages that we can just link to rather than making people sort through the whole mess to find what they want.

I think that's the last i will post of this stuff here in this thread. Sorry to give you such a headache of tables to edit in nali. I took what i posted here and used it to get started on the webpages today. What i have done is located
here (http://e.domaindlx.com/jrichard/d2/aas22/)
It's rough, but i'm not looking to make it pretty right now. I'd rather make sure it's understandable first.
As always, suggestions are more than welcome.

Just for clarification, regarding C/C attacks with FoF, BoI, CoT, DC:
The penalty of 30 EIAS (or is it not EIAS?) is already counted in in your Eias table? E.g. if I use 2xbartuks (-30 WSM) and have no other sources of EIAS, then I have 30 EIAS = 16 fpa attack speed, right?
First of all, these are sequence animations. Sequence animations take a penalty of 30 to their attack speed. That's why the base for these is listed as 70 instead of 100.
jrichard
16-10-2004, 17:48
Yeah, i took the penalty into account when i made up the EIAS and BoS/IAS tables. You should be at 16 fpa.

Wow, lot of tables. :teeth::spy:
I've added/updated all of the tables, except the FHR/FCR/FBR tables, as they're already in the FAQ. Due to space constraints(the whole first post exceeded the 60k character cap), I've had to remove the section on DTalon specifics(General Mechanics are still there). If you need me to put it in again into the 2nd post of the topic, let me know.
Once you're done with the putting up the informations sections on your website, do tell me and I'll put a link to it on the top of the first post. You're right, the formatting won't hold up in a forum post. If you want diabloii.net to help mirror the page, don't hesitate to ask. ;)

I was playing around with BoS and different IAS gear and then started looking around for more info... What an awesome thread!!!
Mad props to you!
Anyways, looking at the 175 cap made me think that there is a quick way to figure out the minimum fpa for an attack.
Simply take the fpa for the base attack (no BoS, no WSM, no IAS) and divide it by 1.75.
So a bow has a base 15 frame attack, 15 divided by 1.75 is 8.57 round up to 9.
Whereas a xbow has a base 20 frame attack, 20 divided by 1.75 is 11.43 round up to 12. (but your tables say 11)
I confirmed the Bow speed by firing continuously outside the rogue camp till I used up my full quiver and timing how long it took.
With a bow + BoS + gear I could get up to 126 seconds (9 fpa).
With a longbow, no ias gear and no BoS it takes 210 seconds (15fpa).
I confirmed the xbow speed using the same mechanism, with a light crossbow + BoS + gear I measured 110 seconds to empty the quarrel (11fpa - as per your data)
I confirmed the xbow base speed with a crossbow, no BoS or IAS and it took 200 seconds.
What I don't understand is how if there is a cap of 175, an xbow could go from 20 all the way down to 11???

I have a question about the trap laying. According to your IAS table, a 9 frame trap speed laying rate requires 42% ias. I have a choas claw (in runic talons) and a 15% ias speed jewel inside my shako (total 50% ias in
-30wms claws). I should have the fastest trap laying, but when I use BoS instead of fade I lay traps faster. Would you happen to know what is wrong?
FYI: my off hand claw is a bartucs. (if that makes any difference)

Bows are 16 frames, Crossbows are 21 frames. Also, you need to subtract 1 from the result. Just follow the IAS formula.

Either your claws are in the wrong order (ie. bartucs primary, and chaos secondary. order matters) or you are just seeing things.

@ Ice hawk,
Just to echo brianc here. I equipped a chaos runic talon, a 'tuc and a shako with a 15 IAS jewel on a test character and had 9 frame trap casting. Make sure you are equipping the chaos first, preferably in the slot on the left side of the inventory screen.
@Rick,
If you check out the EIAS tables for the longer attacks. Two handed swords, and xbows being amonst them, i think you'll see that they drop more frames going from 100 to 175 than do the shorter attacks. They simply have more time for the increment to make up ground. That may be confusing.....hmm can't think of a better way to put it right now. Maybe it'll come to me later. :) If you use what brianc said as your base, 21 for xbows, and subtract one from your result, you do get the same 11 frames.

Oh, ok, then that must be the problem. I thought the last claw you eqiupt becomes the primary claw. Well in that case, my problem is because I use the str bonus and dex bonus on my tucs in order to wear my chaos; thus, the tucs are always insterted first, making it my primary claw.
Thanks brianc and jrichard!
P.s. Can I solve this problem by just re-insterting the tucs at the start of each game, or do i have to work my stat pts up to wear the chaos first?

thank you very much Jrichard and Brianc
would it be too bold to ask if the excel calculator some of us have from you will be updated?
i also tried to get through some of the mechanics behind the game ticks. a lil over my head... but if its already there then just say so,, Could a brief explanation be given on how to figure FPA when using other skills such as sacrifice charges etc? what number need to be used and where?
-zoid
if i was good with Action scripting (and cracking the native graphics files) id try to make a visual calculator in flash so that we could enter and see the attack speeds,,(even in slow motion too). but alas i could not tackle that project.
Contained within JR's website under game mechanics is this formula:
skill_IAS = ((110 * lvl) * (b-a))/((100 * (lvl +6)) + 15
With the following admission and cry for help:"I've yet to find where the error in my math is with this equation. I know it's my error as the values shown in the skill description are upheld in speed testing rather than the values gotten from this equation.".
The correction equation actually powers the skill planner on another website(am I allowed to mention it?):
javascript:
function dm(l,a,b){
return a+dec((b-a)*dec(110*l/(l+6),0)/100,0)
}
where a and b are defined just like JR's and l is the lvl of BOS
ok for those excel folks:
try this formula:
=IF(LEVEL>0,15+ROUNDDOWN((60-15)*ROUNDDOWN(110*LEVEL/(LEVEL+6),0)/100,0),0)
Replace LEVEL with table cell used for BOS level.
Net results will match JR's table on his website(which doesnt match his incorrect formula).
On the FAQ, the two equations for IAS and EIAS conversions are under the wrong titles and was misleading at first. Also for claw/claw elemental attacks, the EIAS table conflicts with the '10 frame' table above it. For 11 BoS on -30 claws, it says you need 72 IAS. However, doing the calculations:
(120*20)/(120+20) = 17.xxx
30 - greater talons
46 - 11 BoS
= 93 EIAS
which according to the EIAS table, reaches 10 frames - indicating that only 20 IAS is needed to reach 10 frames, not 72 IAS (way off)

First off, great work jrichard (even if i got it wrong :scratch: , it was a very interesting read and must've taken a great ammount of effort to make)
now to meat of the post (i'll try to be as "didatic" as possible here, so it also works as a reference for anyone else reading):
I'm planning on making a assassin using the elemental skills (Phoenix, thunder and one other) and plan on using a Bartuc's (wsm=-30) and natalya's (wsm=-40). So i looked here (http://e.domaindlx.com/JRichard/D2/aas22/Tables/Elemental/dualclaw.html) and here (http://e.domaindlx.com/JRichard/D2/aas22/Tables/Animal/claws.html) and found the most EIAS i needed was 91, due to the elemental skills (phoenix needs only 70).
so i took the formula
EIAS = skill_IAS – WSM +((120*equipment_IAS)/(120 + equipment_IAS))
with the intent of finding the necessary level o BoS to get to that bp.
My WSM being -35 (the average of -30 and -40). That's the value disconsidering the dual claw wielding bug (wich i don't need/want to exploit) but if i equipped nat's on right before equipping bartuc's, then the WSM would be given by:
WSM=(inventory_right_WSM + inventory_left_WSM)/2 + (inventory_right_WSM – inventory_left_WSM)
wich is WSM=(-40+(-30))/2 +(-40-(-30))
-70/2+(-10) => WSM=-45 (right?)
I plan on having at the very least 20 equipment IAS, using that value, the last term
((120*equipment_IAS)/(120 + equipment_IAS))
is 120*20/(120+20) = 2400/140 = 17,14.. = 17
Putting these on the EIAS equation
EIAS(wanted)=91 WSM(non-bugged)=-35 and the last term as 17
EIAS = skill_IAS – WSM +((120*equipment_IAS)/(120 + equipment_IAS))
91=skill_IAS - (-35) + 17
so Skill_IAS=91 -35 -17 => Skill_IAS= 39
Wich according to the bos_lvl<=>skill_ias table found about a third of the way down this page (http://e.domaindlx.com/JRichard/D2/aas22/aas22gm.html) means a lvl 6 BoS, right?
So that means that with only one point in it, i get to the last breakpoint by using natalya's set, a bartuc's and laying of hands... :winner:
Well, that doesn't look as complicated when you actually start making the calculations. (hey it's not like you need to solve a differential equation system anywhere, but i better stop giving blizzard ideas)

Im not so familiar with all these terms so lets see. If Id have a lvl 7 BoS with Bartucs as primary weapon I wouldnt need any more ias to reach fastest kicks w/ dtalon?
I got a question.
According to the IAS tables in the first post, I wouldn'n need any IAS and slvl 1 BoS to achieve 9 frame attacks with a -40 WSM bow.
According to diabloii.net, the Witchwild String (WWS), an unique Short Siege bow, has WSM of 0. If I socketed it with 2x 'Shael', It's WSM would become
0 - 40 = -40
So, with slvl 1 BoS, I could achieve 9 frame attacks without any IAS on other gear than WWS. This also means that if I had a, say, 20% IAS gloves like Laying of Hands, then I'm going overboard with IAS.
Am I right? This is the first time ever I use IAS tables... :confused:

Few things I'd like to confirm that I'm reading your tables correctly:
I'm making a kicker using dragon talon.
I want to use Chaos(35ias) and Fury(40ias) runewords.
WSM for a Suwayyah is 0? Please confirm for me.
If it is, does it mean that a Chaos Suwayyah has WSM of -35, or is it still 0?
Your tables start at -60 WSM, which lead me to believe that it counts weapon IAS.
If I don't use BOS, I would need 133 ias total to get a 7fps kick, which doesn't really seem like a practical setup to me.
If the WSM is -35, then your tables say I would need an additional 37 ias to hit 7fps?
I don't want to confuse myself even more by trying to figure in the 2nd Fury claw, but that would be my 2nd question.
Sorry if I sound confused, but I am a bit.
My main goal is to get to 7/3 frames using Chaos and Fury.
If I should use faster claws, please point me in the right direction.
Thx
Personally, I would look into some faster claws if you are going to go that route.
WSM = 0. For kicks, WSM is only based on the base speed of the weapons. The -60 WSM is for the -60 base speed crossbows, not the IAS/WSM combo like the Whirlwind skill. Dual Wielding with different speeds of weapons can give you odd results, one of which is a WSM of -50.
133 IAS is very impractical on a melee character.
You get 40 or 35 IAS from the weapons, not 75. Dragon Talon only counts IAS from one claw (your primary). So, your results will be different depending on which claw is your primary. Also realize that many mods (OW, magic damage, chance to cast on striking) do not transfer between primary and secondary. A great explanation of dual-wielding effects can be found here:
http://e.domaindlx.com/JRichard/D2/aas22/aas22gm.html#dualclaw
Come back if you still have questions. :thumbsup:
It seems that the tables here and the table on your independent site differ for the 9 fps trap laying. Or am I just seeing things?
No, you aren't seeing things. The tables on the independant site are for 63 EIAS rather than the required 61 EIAS. You will still get the required speed, but might spend a bit more on IAS than what is needed.

In order to hit the fastest ww break with a jade, it needs at least a 15 ias jewel. Please confirm. Thanks.
Yep. You could get away with 10 IAS, but that's not possible, so....
Hey
I have a couple of questions...
My goal is to get to the 9 frame trap laying using Chaos and Fury Claws. So what's the best claws to make those in and how much ias i will need (w/o BoS) additionaly to get to the 9 frame. Also do both claws matter about it or it's just one of them. For example i'm thinking about making Chaos in a Runic Talon claw and Fury in a Suwayyah claw
If i get it right from the table on the first page with Chaos Runic Talons with WSM of -30 and 35ias from the runeword itself i would need a 15ias jewel in my Corona to get the 9 frame and also my Fury Katar won't matter if i equip the Chaos first (making it my primary claw)
Thanks, Ivu

I have a Nat's Claw (0/40 IAS = -40), Bartuc's (-30), Level 9 BoS, and Highlord's. Will I be able to achieve a 5-frame per claw Dragon Claw attack?
That site says yes. Tables here says no?
Also, do I average the WSM of my two claws? -35?

Yes, you do average the WSMs of both claws.

Thank you both for the help.
So, say I have Level 9 BoS (EIAS of 44), 60 IAS from Nat's Claw and Highlord's (EIAS of 40), and using Bartuc's (WSM of -30) as off-hand weapon.
Am I right to say that my EIAS will be 84 since Nat's Claw has a WSM of 0?
Or, do I get a bonus of 15 due to the average WSM of -15 from Nat's Claw and Bartuc's, getting 99 EIAS?
I'm in need of 91 EIAS to hit 10 frame breakpoint for a Dragon Claw attack, 5 per claw.
Thanks.
In any case, you should be aware that links to competing sites are not allowed here.
Yes I know that. However the exact URL is given in many moderator made stickied threads in many of the forums here, so I thought it'd be okay. Sorry.
:)
You average the speed of the claws, so your WSM is -15. Just make sure you keep Nat's claw on the glove-side (and do a quick weapon switch) to make sure you're getting that speed and not something else.

The last time I checked, d2de's speedcalc was only using the dominant WSM instead of averaging them for the Strike attacks--which is quite obviously wrong-o.

Great info guys but my head is smoking lol. I am making my first kicker (DTalon) and have a bartucs and jade combo. What side should each claw be on and how much additional IAS would u all recomend? Also do I have to use BoS or could I get good speed without it so I can use fade? Mostly asking since fade has DR% wich doesn't show(is this correcct? if so how much is it?). Thanks in advanve for all your help.......
hi....great tables
i was wondering
if i have a chaos suwayyah...it has a base speed of 0
so to achieve the 7 frame initial kick for dragon talon...i need lvl 5 BoS and 34% ias right?
so if the chaos suwayyah already has 35% IAS on it already...all i need is a lvl 5 BoS to get 7 frame initial kick for dragon talon?

I saw 2 ias tables for Dragon Claw / Dual claw elemental chargeups
which one will give me a 10 frame (5/5) attack ?
One's first row looks like this, on the first page:
0 125 174 208 250 304 377 480 638 909 1480 3480 N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A
The other's first row looks like this, on the second page:
0 42 63 75 89 105 125 147 174 208 250 304 377 480 638 909 1480 3480 ---
I notice they're the same, but the second one starts at 42. Which one should I use?

Merchantkill: First of all, welcome to the Assassin Forum. :)
Use the first table, i.e.:
0 125 174 208 250 304 377 480 638 909 1480 3480 N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A
If in doubt, stick to the table in the first 2-3 posts(or better yet, JRichard's own page (http://e.domaindlx.com/JRichard/D2/aas22/Tables/Elemental/dualclaw.html), which is linked to at the top of the post). The second table does not factor in the inherent 30 EIAS penalty to framebreaks with DC/Elemental chargeups, IIRC(which explains why they look similar).
Antoni: Correct.
wycked: Unless you want to make use of the weapon order bug/feature(details in the first post), it really doesn't matter which order you place your claws in, as long as you equip your first claw on the glove-side weapon slot, and the second claw on the boot-side weapon slot. However, in the interests of maximizing leech, you should equip your Jade Talon first.
If you can get at least 68% IAS on equipment, you're won't need BoS. If you can't, you either have to make do with an 8 frame DTalon(with 27% equipment IAS) or get BoS. Framebreaks are all in the tables.
Need an answer.
When i use 2 claws, the wsm for trap laying is of primary claw or average of the two?
And:
When on fade
primary claw=fury( feral claw,-20 wsm, 40ias)
secondary claw=chaos( suwayyah, 0 wsm, 35ias)
0 ias in other equipments
So, tell me the speed of trap-laying in such conditions? And the ias in other equipments need for 9f trap-laying=?
Another one:
When on fade
primary claw=fury( suwayyah, 0 wsm, 35ias)
secondary claw=chaos( suwayyah, 0 wsm, 35ias)
0 ias in other equipments
the same questions,answer=?

Trap-laying WSM is the average of both claws(however IAS only applies on the main claw. So, in your first case, you would effectively have a -10 WSM and 40% IAS).
To find out the Trap laying speed in those combinations you'll need to make use of the EIAS - IAS conversion formulas found in the second post of the thread, and factor in the WSM. The instructions are all there(if you need clarification on them you can ask), so I'll just do this once:
First case:
40 IAS(after conversion, 30 EIAS), and 10 EIAS bonus (from the -10 WSM), so in total you have 40 EIAS, which according to the Trap-laying EIAS table means you're at 11 frames.
Second case:
40 IAS(after conversion, 30 EIAS), and 0 EIAS bonus from WSM, so in total you have 30 EIAS, which means 12 frames.
To find out how much total IAS you'll need to get to 9 frames, look for the table in the first post titled "%IAS required for 9 frame Trap Laying".

This is kinda confusing :-/
I'm building a Claw-Claw Pheonix Strike 'Sin and I'm trying to work out what level of Burst of Speed I need to hit a 10 frame finisher. Here are my calculations, I'm hoping someone who knows what they are doing can tell me if I'm doing anything dumb:
Shael Nat's Mark - Base Speed = 0, 60% IAS
Bartuc - Base Speed = -30, 0 IAS
WSM = -15
For current situation:
20% off weapon IAS
60% on weapon IAS
= 80%
EIAS=((120*IAS)/(120+IAS))+Skill_IAS-WSM
EIAS=(9600)/(200)+15+Skill_IAS
EIAS=63+Skill_IAS
91 EIAS needed for 10 frame Elemental chargup with claw-claw.
91-63=Skill_IAS
=> 28 IAS Required
Level 3 BoS gives 31 EIAS, so I'm comfortably hitting the breakpoint already.
Now, without the Shael:
IAS=60%
EIAS=(7200/180)+15+Skill_IAS
EIAS=40+15+Skill_IAS
91 EIAS needed.
91-55=Skill_IAS
36=Skill_IAS
Level 5 BoS gives 37% EIAS. I'm still hitting the BP comfortably.
I understand maxing out the speed of Pheonix Strike is much easier than Dragon Claw, so I'll ignore that. Are my sums right, and if not, what am I doing wrong? That final breakpoint looks very easy to hit.
Thanks for any help you can give!

WSM = -15
For current situation:
20% off weapon IAS
60% on weapon IAS
= 80%
EIAS=((120*IAS)/(120+IAS))+Skill_IAS-WSM
EIAS=(9600)/(200)+15+Skill_IAS
EIAS=63+Skill_IAS
91 EIAS needed for 10 frame Elemental chargup with claw-claw.
91-63=Skill_IAS

My apologies for the double post, but the 'whole forum' view doesn't seem to have registered my previous post, so noone will realise I posted it :-/
Sooo....
*Bump*
Wow, sorry about that. I hate it when that happens. :( If it does that again, go ahead and post your own thread, which should show up nicely.
By the way, the calculations look good to me. Just remember to keep your Nat's claw as primary (keep it over the gloves, and equip it first - that's how the game defaults).

Stupid Squid. Must keep 'submit' button under control :D
I should have said, but what worries me is that my answer contradicts the tables at the start of the thread - according to them the fastest breakpoint should be a fair bit harder to hit. I'm gone over the sums a fair few times now, and I can't find an error. Have I got something sublty wrong in my sums or is there something wrong in the tables or calculation instructions?

**For the Strike chargeups, use only the WSM of your primary claw(ignore secondary claw WSM)
TS/CS/PS's WSM when used with dual claws equal to FoF/BoI/CoT/DC's WSM formula.
And, So D-Talon/D-Tail is.
AIA1HT2

I know this is already known: D-Talon/D-Tail/Trap Laying's WSM when used with dual claws equal to FoF/BoI/CoT/DC's WSM formula.
But so TS/CS/PS is.

I'm finding it difficult to understand much of what you're saying because of the language problem. Sorry.
There is one thing though. It's already known that all the relevant MA skills including the Strikes take both WSMs into account in the case of dual-wield. JRichard definitely knows it too, as you can see here: http://e.domaindlx.com/JRichard/D2/aas22/aas22gm.html.
I don't know why it says something different in the first post, but it looks like JRichard's tables and text might have gotten mixed up with moderator editing, and somebody slipped up.
It is interesting to note that the German speedcalc makes the same mistake with the strikes.
xiaoheihei

I can't see JRichard's site.:sad2:
My first post means: Strikes's and Elemental's WSM when used with dual claws are the same formula.
e.g.
TS/CS/PS:
1)equip your primary claw(0WSM) on the glove-side weapon slot first,
followed by secondary claw(-30WSM) on boot-side weapon slot second, WSM=(0-30)/2 = -15
2)equip your primary claw(-30WSM) on the boot-side weapon slot first,
followed by secondary claw(0WSM) on glove-side weapon slot second, WSM=(-30+0)/2 + (-30-0)= -45.
But JRichard's top post said:
Whenever you're C/C(doesn't matter which attack, except for WW* and the Strike chargeups**), remember to average the WSMs of both claws(i.e. if you use a Runic Talon and a Suwayyah, your effective WSM would be -15).
**For the Strike chargeups, use only the WSM of your primary claw(ignore secondary claw WSM)
So I post my first post.
PS: Curse me for my poor english.:grin:
EDIT: AIA1HT2 AnimationSpeed = 208, my clerical error.
Hi man!!
Before all i must realy thx you for this great work!!!
But i have a question... witch tables are ok now??
I mean that in the firsts tables (in posts 1 and 2) the table refered to Dragon Talon for example, says that if y use lvl 8 of BoS and i have weapon with WSM = -20 .... then i need only a 2%ias to take 7fpa with the first kick.
But in the other tables (in post 5) in the same table (dtalon first kick), says that with BoS at lvl 8 and WSM = -20, i Dont need eny %ias to take 7fpa...
So witch ones are rigth ??? the firsts or the seconds???
I hope enyone can answer me....

I've noticed that this table (both in this thread and at jrichard's home page) seems to be way off compared to the EIAS table and the german calculator. Am I missing somthing or is that really the case?

Hey K-T,
Yes, that table is inaccurate. I found that out when I was building my dual-claw Phoenix Striker several months ago.
Jrichard's tables are accurate, and the EIAS tables here are correct as well, so use those and ignore this particular IAS table.

Hey. I was checking out the WSM for my claws but they were not listed.
I have a Chaos Greater Talon +35 IAS
and a Fools Mod Blade Talon +30 IAS
Now with this much IAS what BP have I hit? Is it worth it to stick a 15IAS into my helm?
Also I am trying to hit the Traps IAS BP. I am so confused because my claws are not listed, thanks for all your help.

woops sry about that -
can ne1 calcualte that for me plz ?
im using Dtalon - beast as weapon
so i have level 9 fanatcism, level 13 BoS, and 40ias
do i have 7/3/3/3 kicks now ?
thx 4 ur help !
If the beast is in Ba (i supose it ;) ), yes of course you take the last break.
And if you have only 10%ias more from stuff (gloves or jwl on helm or belt), you even not need to use BoS to take the last break ;)
You can use Fade and you will kick as fast as posible with DTalon (if using Beas Ba + 10%ias item). You will run/walk slower, but maybe you may think about it :P

hmm, was fiddling about with the equations and i made an observation
*puts f. maths hat on*
EIAS=(120xIAS)/(120+IAS) + other EIAS sources
so fairly simple hey? well i was just obsevring that this curve of has diminishing returns, but to what extent? well let us consider some uber char has IAS = infinity (alot, maybe some frenzy, bosed, stupidly buggered barb)
so assuming no other EIAS sources how much EIAS does he have?
EAIS=(120Xinifinity)/(120+inifinity)
= 120Xinifinty/infinity
now how eva scary infinity is in an equation (ive some scary equations) it still cancels like everything else,
this leaves us with 120, therefore EIAS can nvr = more than 120
when IAS = 0, EIAS =0 with a point of inflection about (0,0) again, *ASSUMPTION* no other sources of EAIS (any source of EAIS will shift the graph upwards uniformly

Well technically you can't divide infinity like that, but the answer is correct :)
Let's say IAS = X
So as X approaches infinity you take the limit of:
(120*X)/(120+X)
Which is (120*Infinity)/(Infinity+120)
This is indeterminate form, so you can use L'Hopital's rule and take the derivitive of the top and bottom. Then you get:
120/1 = 120!
Just practicing some calc 1, don't mind me :)

Flight is fixed cast/attack speed meaning it will always be 16frame tele + 7 frame kick, it does not care what wsm your weapon is or how much fcr/ias you have, does not matter if you have holyfreeze + decrept on you or fanta + bos, speed remains the same.
dtalon uses your weapon's base weapon speed. Find out what your base weapon speed is, then use the ias tables in this thread to find out how much ias you need.

You'll actually not need any ias at all.
Your WSM is the average of the two claws, bartucs have a WSM of -30.
So look at the tables for dragon talon in the column = -30. You'll see that you have a primary kick and secondary kicks. The secondary kick needs 5 IAS too reach the speed of 3 frames when using a WSM -30 weapon, when your BoS level is 0. If you use BoS then you'll not need any IAS at all.
The primary kick stops needing any IAS at all too when you have a level 4+ BoS.
The speed of dragon flight cannot be increased sadly. It's locked and no matter what weapon, IAS or level of BoS you use can increase it, nor will FCR work.

tank yoo! i iz be fast now!
glanced over the tables, but is this saying that 13 frames per attack is the best you can achieve with a 2-handed sword/spear?
my fledgling samurai build is not going to be happy

Your answer is zeal, passion runeword. tables (http://e.domaindlx.com/JRichard/D2/aas22/Tables/other/Zeal/twohandedswords.html)
Still you'll only get 7 frame follow ups, not really lightning fast :rolleyes:
I didnt really understand these tables. If i dont use any charge up -skills and any other skills, only normal attack, how do i know the ias i need for the fastest animation? Thanks already :)
Some corrections as discussed in this thread (http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=641630):
All the 'corrected' kick tables in post #9 use the wrong BoS EIAS numbers. The error only applies to BoS levels 1, 8, 11, 12, 18, 20, 29 & 30.
There seem to be two tables posted for trap laying as well. The values in post #1 are correct, the values in post #5 are wrong. I have re-posted the correct values here for reference.
Corrected IAS tables:

Ok quick question. I'm going to be using Nats mark and Bartucs, using Dragon Claw.
Going by the first tables, I am looking at 113 for fastest attack (average WSM -15, BoS lvl 13).
Am I right there, or are these tables no longer accurate?
If thats the case, since I am never going to hit 113, are there lower breakpoints that I could aim for?
And lastly, does it matter which is the 'primary' claw, and which order I equip them (I'm thinking not)?
Thanks in advance!
The table for Dragon Claw in post 5 is the correct one.
Good news is you only need 37IAS to hit the fastest attach speed.
As Nat's Mark has 40 IAS on it, this should be in the primary slot (above the gloves). This means you don't need any additional IAS from you equipment to hit the fastest speed.
And lastly, does it matter which is the 'primary' claw, and which order I equip them (I'm thinking not)?
Yes it does, only the IAS on the primary counts. Equip the claw with the most IAS on it first and on the glove side.

I'm an idiot who can't read good.
I have a Cryptic Sword (-10 WSM) with Cresent moon (20% IAS), lvl 7 BoS and Nosf belt (10% IAS). Currently a wannabe Warrior Monk.
I'm debating to go with my 20%IAS gloves + Nats helm OR my dual leach cb gloves with 15% IAS on Guillaumes.
Once my Crescent Moon breaks, I will be reverting to my Schal'd (20%IAS) Fleshripper (-20 WSM) (TY Noammr for this gift!).
Furthermore, I don't actually know about all this...7 kicks in Dragon Talon with 3 kick follow up? My skils tell me that it only does 5
Confusing for a klutz like me! I'll give anyone a cookie if they can help me out.

wow those charts make life so much easier. just looked at the first page so i hope i didn't miss any changes in there somewhere. looks like since i have a wsm of -30 and 40ias on my equip, i'd need 6 more (with no burst of speed). gonna have to switch my belt to nosferatu's and i'll be 7/3 in no time.

-29 22 8 14
-26 21 15 13
-23 20 24 12
-19 19 34 11
-15 18 47 10
-10 17 61 9

Hello!
I might be a bit daft here, but I'm confused about something.
In the "Dragon Claw/Elemental chargeup (FoF/CoT/BoI) EIAS Table with Claw/Claw:" table, it says that for a EIAS of 7 you get 21 Frames per Attack.
Now, here (http://e.domaindlx.com/jrichard/d2/Dual%20claw%20attack%20speed%20basics.htm) (low end of the page), is an example where a EIAS of 7 for a Dragon Claw attack leads to a 16 Frame attack.
The Weapon Speed Calculator here (http://diablo3.ingame.de/tips/calcs/weaponspeed.php?lang=english) confirms the 16 frame attack for the same settings.
So... what am I missing?
Cheers!

i got an question
with 2x 2assa 3ls 2sox gts, how many IAS yewels i need to use for max trap laying speed
Greater Talons have a Weapon Speed Modifier of -30. This requires 42% IAS on gear (primary claw and all other IAS except secondary claw).
If the claw is empty, you'd need 2x Shael's and one IAS jewel. Only the primary claw needs any IAS (shael or jewel), so soc that with res / fhr or life or something jewels.
so its useless to socket one with 2x 15ias jool and then socketing the other with 15 ias jool to?
Correct.
The second IAS jewel can instead be life, res, anything and that will still help you. It's just the IAS that isn't counted.
