a couple years back, i played on battle.net with the same computer hardware, but with a different hard drive plus Win ME. i had an average FPS of 120, which is very good. i have a geforce 3 video card with 64 megs video ram.

now that i have a different hard drive and Win 98, and also playing only in Single Player, the FPS reads this: 25 FPS and 25 skip. it goes much lower when i go to the riverbanks of Act 3, like flayer jungle, spider forest, etc. i dont mean all the time. and it's only at riverbanks when my fps drops to 5 or 10. anyway, i just wonder why its 25 FPS in SP and 120 in Multiplayer.

and no, i dont have a lot of programs running in the background, no spyware, no viruses. there's just 5, which are basic windows programs and the like. explorer, directcd, systray, rundll.

I don't think this warranted a new thread. You already asked this in your "several possible bugs" post.

most of my answers were solved on that post.

so i'm making a clean start on ways to get the FPS better than before. i mean come on .... 5 FPS on riverbanks of act 3 is just ridiculous.

I'd be looking at getting latest drivers for your video card. Run the Video Test thing under your Diablo2 start menu entry and make sure you are using Direct3D.

or if you are already try changing to one of the other options.

okay, turns out i was using direct3d, and so i switched to direct draw, which made things ultra-smooth and quicker. thanks guys.
