**disclaimer**
i'm pissed so hear me rant!
/end disclaimer

[/Begin rant] God, how long as it been sense d2 came out? 5,6 years? something like that. i've been playing ever sense, off an on of course. i have had the same account *killer_man55643 and before it got deleted for the first time i had experienced everything. Being rich, having the best pker's, being rich, being a scammer, being a hacker, being a noob, being the noob slayer, being an *******, being mature, being all ^^ and Tt, being GG NO RE!, and then i came back to my accont after at least 4 months of inactivity and got to experience another side of diablo, being poor wheneveryone else is rich. i figured sense i have nothing to lose why not constantly be on the edge of loseing it all and play some hardcore! so i jumped in!
now i've had plenty experience with pvp and what to stay away from. im not afriad of backing down to fight another day no matter how much the 10 year old kid is pissing me off. But today after finally starting to get some good items for pvp (twitch, mandal, bloodfist, gorefoot, an okay bow, sigions helm ect) i start to get my foothold in the game again and it gets taken away from me by the biggest injustice known to man! (keep reading if you want)
Thats right folks a Hacker. Now i've screwed people over before but there is a difference between hacking and scamming. when you scam someone usually you have to wait for the right person to make the right mistake, when your hacked you are completly innocent. i've been scammed before but i've recoverd but to come back to see what i saw just now completly pissed me off, so much so that i've made a post to tell you all about it.
A level 80 something sorc was planning on giving away free items, the catch was we had to go outside of town in stony field, i know what your thinking, i went out and he hostiled me and killed me and its my own fault. well thats not it no no no. i'm much smarter than that, so i followed him thinking that i would have plenty of time to leave if he hostiled me and had to get back to stony. i wasn't going to let everyone die to this *******. but no, he said he was going to pvp me if i didn't leave i laughed then he shoots his ice blasts and hostiles me WHILE OUTSIDE TOWN and i die. everyone saw it, i got a screenshot as best i could but i really don't care about that. i've looked around for news about this hack and figured i should warn everyone. the days of diablo2 have died and this game is turning into diablo1 all over again. well, flame on, ask questions do what you like but this time blizzard i quit! forever!

There is?

when you scam someone usually you have to wait for the right person to make the right mistake, when your hacked you are completly innocent.

Making a mistake because one may be new to the game doesn't make one guilty.

Sorry about your loss, but karma does have a way of catching up with people.

The reason they are guilty is not because they are new but usually because they are trying to do something they should not be doing, like dupeing or something like that. the difference between scamming and hacking is that scamming involves one party tricking another party. hacking involves 1 party using a glitch or an unfair advantage to cheat.

There is a big difference between hacking and scamming. Scamming, the people may be innocent, but stupid. Scamming can actually be good for people in a way, because it teaches them never to be so trusting again.

Also, yes, i know, hacks are rampant once more. People stealing from eachother, People using crazy things to kill eachother and piss the other off, people doing everything wrong for a sane world. It is no longer a friendly game, in which people get together and have a good time. It is a murder field filled with hatred, flaming, and much more than simply un-scrupulous behavior. The community, is dead.

Burglers are bad and con men aren't? Yeah, this smells like karma to me too. Maybe it'll stop here or maybe in the next life you'll be a dung beetle. Time will tell.

A very good post and he does have a point. There is a difference between hacking and scamming. If you get scammed, it is because of your own lack of intelligence, usually meaning that you don't know one specific fact, e.g. that the wall in the tavern in Act 2 can be ignored from one side (a drop trade trick).

Being hacked is something no one can expect, and creates its own boundaries, unlike scamming which is exploiting facets or glitches of the game itself.

Being careful and having some common sense can keep you from being scammed. No one is to blame but you if you don't have either.

EDIT: I see this is more a discussion of morals, in which case, sadly, it is just one's opinion.

Scammers for the good of diablo players everywhere? Please. Tell me, when you people 'teach' these inexperienced players a lesson, do you take their stuff, tell them they've fallen for a scam and then give their stuff back?
If that's the case, then perhaps you're helping them out. Otherwise you're as bad as the hackers.

He got you to leave town by promising free items. The hack wouldn't have worked unless he scammed you first. It's definately karma.

you throw that word around alot, trust me its not Karma. 9 times out of 10 the reason a person scams is because he was scammed as well, he does it to get even and to try and get his stuff back. i know what Karma is. Karma is getting a windforce through a scam and then loseing it because you fell for another scam. (done it before) these scams may have involved hacks but that is the only way they are related. i lost just as much as i have scammed, proof? MY ACCOUNT WAS DELETETED. When i wanted free items i was not guilty of being a noob because people give free items away all the time. He was going to try and pk us all, the problem is i didn't know he could illegally hack the game and kill me outside of town. If you naysayers fail to see where the problem lies, and that you can accept this because i too have done bad things before then you are blinded by the corruption of the game. I only hope Blizzard does not crumble with the pressures of WoW and that their MMorpg works out better.

Sorry to keep playing devil's advocate here, but he exploited something that he knew about and you didn't. It being a hack doesn't matter. So does that mean it was your fault? If you justify scamming as you exploiting the ingnorance of other players then I suppose you have no legitimate complaint here. You were ignorant to the fact that he could kill you outside of town. Of course, you nor anyone could ever know everything that could possibly happen in a game of Diablo so you can't be guilty for what happened to you. Just as your scamming victims are not guilty of what you did to them. In the end scamming and hacking hurt other players and it has no place on battle.net

it can be said as easy as
if you scam you cheat
if you hack you cheat...

and the part about not being ppl's fault when they get hacked isn't true.. like 9 out of 10 times they have downloadet something, visited a site with a key logger, using a bot or something.. and that is theyr fault.. not protecting theyr computer well enough..

Scamming is NOT cheating. It is outsmarting someone. But don't mistake me for saying scammers are good.
