how long does it take, on average, to get a char to lvl 99? i imagine it's an incredible amount of time.

I think the initial climb to Level 40-50 is quite easy... but to get to Levels 70-90.. and then to 99, that's where it takes a long time.

I can get from 1-90 in 2 days, its 90-99 that takes three years and still no 99 on my list of characters made. . . .

1-2 months is a lot too short. It takes 10 days of non stop players 8 Baal runs at 5 mins a run just to get from lvl 98-99 I believe!

Solartje did some rough calculations, and including an occasional death (hasn't happened so far, but it's possible) and hours that the character is not played, it should take us about a month to get from our lvl 97 and 2/10th to lvl 99. 1-24 goes rather slow, from there on it's superfast until you hit 90, then it becomes slower again, and with each level it's slooower and slooower. Now at lvl 97 the average Baalrun gives a little bit over 100K exp in 8-players, which will drop again once we hit 98.

1-2 months is what I would say for the crazy players, not for the normal. And there is no bot whatsoever which can do the trick in 2-3 days. In fact, not a single bot can do what a determined 8-player party can achieve. Non-stop or not.

Out of curiousity, what's the XP gap between Levels 98 and 99?
The % gained remains the same, 5% of monster exp everywhere but act5hell where it's 7%. But the difference in lvl increases, so you do get less exp. I'm not sure how much it is tbh, once we reach 98 I might be able to tell you (where already halfway there :D)

just a wild thought, (im not sure if u can do this or not, if u cant, tell me and dont answer my question then) say that u fill ur whole inventory with all maxed annihilus charms. The char just reached lvl 98. How long, then, will it take for that char to reach lvl 99? btw... im pretty sure no one has ever done this before so if no one knows, im not surprised.

A character can only have one Anni in his stash/inventory at the same time. So it would be a lot faster, if it was possible ;)

I think it makes the game believe that there are 8 characters playing. This therefore means that the monsters are either tougher or come in throves. Be warned though, you need to remember that the setting is on. Once I attempted /players8 in Act 1 just to see how it went. It was fun. However, I later thought I'd try to get some XP fighting Mephisto in Act 3. I had totally forgotten that I was still on /p8. Ack.. it was a nightmare.

Jyde explained this pretty good apart from the fact that it doesn't generate any extra monsters just gives the monsters that would be there anyway more life, makes them worth more experience points and lowers their no drop chance. It is a Single Player command and simulates a Battle.net game with 7 other players in it with you. So if you are playing on Battle.net read palyers 8 as a full game of 8 players. (They don't have to actually be partied with you I believe as long as you do all the killing.) And yep it's the best way to get experience.

If botting could get you to 99 in 3 days dont you think there would be ALOT more lvl 99's?

Ever since ladder came out, when i was bored i would periodically type whois the people on the ladder, and they are pretty much in games 24/7 which only leads me to conclude even if you play 24/7 it will still take you about a month, prolly more.

Of coarse it varies where you play, but if you have a full party of chars leveling with you and an Enchantress, this can take as little as 45 minutes.

I was referring to slow because, you're low lvl and in most games this is where you'll lvl up fast and in Diablo with all the Baal runs 1-24 seems to take ages if you don't have an enchantress and a full game (which most people don't have, we do but I was talking in general ;) ).

Sidenote: if all goes well we should get to lvl 98 thursday night/friday morning. That will be the first lvl 98 char in Europe, probably the second overall (US West was first overall yesterday). Then it will take 3 weeks (optimist) or a month (pessimist) to get to 99 if we keep playing like this.
