View Full Version : Advice for Stat Allocation

Hay.

I'm having a dilema. I've started a Werewolf that'll be maxing Feral Rage, Fury, Oak Sage, Lycanthropy and Werewolf. He's only level 6 or so, since I started him tonight, so I'm in the planning phase.

I'm not sure wether to use max block or pump it all in vitality. I know this argument has been done before... hell, I've read about it a million times and have firmly stuck with max block for my Bonemancer build and am leaning towards it on other characters. I'm just not sure I should do max block with the wolf.

A rough guess is that we get like 430 attribute points by level 80. This is a ROUGH guess.... if anyone knows better please let me know... I'm tired and don't want to really think. I don't count past 80 because I want to be set well enough by then. If I use a good maul for my Wolf it'll require at least 200 strength at least, right? This will leave me with about 230 points. For max block I'll need a Dexterity of around 200 to block 75% with a 60% shield at level 80. (Being modest)

That leaves crap for vitality.

So, I guess I need to either choose a different weapon type or scratch the max block. Or maybe, doubtfully, ignore vitality.(Doubt it would work.... would take the fun away from the tank idea, even though I have sage and the lycan bonus I'll still have modest health.) How do you feel about max block? Wolves are melee and in the fray alot so I think block would be nice... but hell, I need advice.

Also, can you suggest what sort of weapon to use besides a maul? Something with a decent balance of speed and damage? If I could find a type of weapon to use end-game that has a low str requirement (around 100) but decent damage that would be fabulous.

(I'm not wealthy or well-twinked... but I can come up with good stuff when need rises.)

Basically, what the hell should I do with my stat points?

Thanks for reading my insane, exhausted post.

strength: maximum strength requirement(usually weapon) - str from equipment or everything(titan build)
dexterity: max block or none or weapon dex requirement - dex from equipment
vitality: rest
energy: none

Go which ever way you feel like, two or one handed.

The only one handed mace with a very high strength requirement is a legendary mallet(189), but the attack speed would be quite slow with it so I suggest looking for something faster(use the calculator in the sticky). Something like Griswold's Redemption(Caduceus) would be ideal, but costly. Phase blades are usually fast and maces do more damage, I suggest you go looking for a nice looking one and calculate the speed/damage ratio's and bonuses or something.

You will probably gain strength from equipment(many Immortal Kings pieces have it for example) so you don't have to invest all the points to reach a requirement.

If you go two handed use a polearm, they have good range and speed. If you don't mind using a maul, use IK maul.

i think horizons tornado would be good cuz with its -20 requirements it has 100 strngth req. and does good dmg.

Thanks alot for the advice. I usually never plan exactly what weapon I'll be using... I like to be sort of spur-of-the-moment. So.. I think I'll get my strength to 100, dexterity to around 220, and the rest in vitality.

Sound good?0_o

BTW.... What sort of weapon is Horizon's Tornado? I'd like to look it up.

Don't yell at me with the IM NOT RICH stuff, but Heart of the Oak sounds right up your alley. And everyone else's.

I use one and it's great.

No increased attack speed and no increased damage? :(

The resists and +3 to skills are nice.. but not that nice, I think.

Yeah, I didn't read want you were looking for besides weapon. So I said hoto by default. Woops.

Anyway, for those specific mods I would definitely check out Horizon's Tornado. 230-280% ed, and 50% ias is calling for you. :)

Oh and, with Tornado you should be able to save a LOT in strength, because it's only str 100. Just a thought.

it depends on how geared you are.

you could always make a titan to make the best use of druidic power. i have managed to get 6k + life from a druid with base vitality. It isn't hard if you focus on gear with the + life mod on it. Vitality is fine for people who are focusing on other things than raw physical damage though.

For fury/rabies or other builds where an elemental is the major focus of the build I would say base strength, use enigma in a light plate, and pump vitality.

I'm considering making a two handed titan based on the tomb reaver. I'm thinking I can get 15kish fury if I try hard enough.

I like what I hear about Horizon's. :) But what sort of weapon is it? I want to look it up. Maul? Sword? Axe?

I'm kinda wanting a half tank half killer build.

My necro found this in Hell.

Islestrike
Twin Axe

(37-40) - (105-113) Damage
24 Durability
85 Str Required
No Dex Required
Clvl Req: 43

+170-190% Enhanced Damage
+2 to Druid Skills
+10 to Strength
+10 to Dexterity
+10 to Vitality
+10 to Energy
+50 Defense vs. Missiles
25% Chance of Crushing Blow
+1 to Maul (Druid Only)
+1 to Fury (Druid Only)

Certainly not an end game weapon... peasely damage, but will be nice for a while, I think.

Can I upgrade this? What is the recipe again? :) It should increase the damage and strength requirement if I do, right? I wonder how much if an increase it would be.

Horizon's Tornado Scourge

One-Hand Damage: (9-11) To (264-304) (136.5-157.5 Avg)
Required Level: 64
Required Strength: 100
Required Dexterity: 62
Durability: 65
Base Weapon Speed: [-10]
+230-280% Enhanced Damage (varies)
+50% Damage To Undead
+50% Increased Attack Speed
Slows Target By 20%
20% Chance To Cast Level 15 Tornado On Striking
Requirements -20%

And Islestrike is also viable, but there are obviously better choices out there.

Neat, thanks (:

A little side question... does Feral Rage do anything fo your regular attack? Does the leech feral rage gives apply to your regular attack? Does it do anything else for your regular attack?

Does it do the same for fury? Thanks (:

With feral rage active(the ball still spinning) you get the leach and run/walk bonuses. This applies to both normal attack and fury.

feral rage is not worth 20 points IMO

its not as useful as fury or rabies and doesnt do near their damage

r/w is useful but leech is crappy specially in hell

i can't get this right. if you're going to use a 200+ str maul, why would you need dex for blocking? ogre mauls(225) and thunder mauls(253) are 2-handed. u can just leave those dex. there's a lot of 1-handed weapons 2 choose from. b'star being the cheapest. if you're going 1-handed, the mark i usually use is around 110 to 120 str. and stay a way from legendary mallets. those things are so slow that you'll easily get bored.

yeah even a shaeld shaffer's smacks too slow. shaeld bstar and tiamat's rebuke is classic PI killer, socket the tiamats with a 1-100 lightning is what i did, kill's pi' decently fast.

other option is to use Atma's Scarab ammy for pi. it really does a heck of a lot if you are swingin fast.

enigma is best armour possible for a shifter dude if they have positive resists I feel. so, with that and IK gloves, you should be able to hold just about anything. And I agree always with oak sage, not HoWolverine for a melee guy in 109 and 110. unless your unshifted or something odd, its not necessary to have more AR and more %ed if you get some decent mods on your gear. Chance to cast Amplify on striking, Crushing blow at a decent %, both together would cut through monsters faster than an extra 1k damage.

I think Ik Maul still is one of the best options, and cheapest/easiest to find. try out a 40% Cblow one with a pair of goblin toes on. :)

I'm sorry, I wasn't paying much attention when I was thinking of using a Maul. I haven't used a Maul since LoD first came out so I couldn't remember if it was two handed.

Perhaps I'll only put 5 points in Feral Rage and put the other 15 in Heart of the Wolverine.
