I'm making a PVP and dclone-owning kick/bow sin, and I'm wondering whether to go the claw/claw route or the weapon/shield route.

It is my understanding that with C/C, my weapon block can block elemental damage, but will only go up to ~60% blocking.

With weap/shield, I can get 75% block, which means I take 25/40, or 62.5%, as many hits from physical attacks as I would if I were using dual claw. This means weap/shield is nearly twice as effective vs. physical attackers. However, that leaves me more vulnerable to elemental attacks.

The thing is, when I'm dueling elementalists (sorc, necro) I probably will be running most of the time, and dflighting in to hit them. This means that I won't be blocking most of their elemental attacks on my until im already d-taloning them. (Or ill be running around shooting arrows at them =P)

So it kinda seems like weap/shield is the way to go. But then you have to remember that the bonuses on claws might be better than bonuses I can get from shields.

For example, bartuc + jade talon, together, gives:

60% Faster Hit Recovery
20% Bonus To Attack Rating
+20 To Strength
+20 To Dexterity
+2 To Assassin Skill Levels
+3 To Martial Arts Skills
+2 To Shadow Disciplines
11% Mana Stolen Per Hit
8% Life Stolen Per Hit
All Resistances +47

These are some really nice bonuses. With duress armor and verdungos, that'd already put me at a whopping 110% FHR.

Another thing to note is that because I am maxing fade, I will have around lvl 26 fade, which means that, with 15% dungo, I'll have 41% PDR (and I might prebuff fade with other equipment, too, like a +3 ammy or something). This almost nullifies the effect of using a stormshield.

But one nice thing about weap/shield besides the 75% block is that I don't have to invest those 10-20 points in weapon block. They can go into shadow master or mind blast instead.

Oh, and btw, my build is 20 fade, 20 venom, 20 dtalon, 10-20 weap block, prereqs, mind blast (??), and shadow master (??). My plan for stats is to put the minimum req for strength and dex, and to dump the rest in vitality. Because cats eye, andy's visage, bartucs, raven frost, and draculs add so much to str and dex, I should end up with a LOT of vitality, which means a LOT of life.

So... yeah... I'd like some opinions on this

I personally love to have a little versatility to my builds. If you are dueling in public games you are going to have to have melee and caster setups. C/C does NOT work against melee very well as you could guess. I actually do both setups and I'm having great success with both. I would seriously consider both

as said oyu could try both, though with andy's, and the claw set up you've got 10 in wep block will give a nice 56% block so claw claw seems worth it specially with the extra mods that you get. storm as you've said isnt needed because the only bonus you'd get from that is dmg reduc and you've nearly got the max anyway.
i find 1 in mindbalst is usually enough if your attacking fast enough and as for shadow master try ad get her as close to lvl 17 as possible (thats when she gets all her rare gear).
i'd suggest something like this:
20 venom/fade/talon
10 wep block
17 master
1 pre-reqs +mindblast
this takes you to lvl 81 after al skill quests have been completed and allows you to then put any extra points where you think would be best suited (maybe finish maxing master or afew extra into mindblast for the duration)
with +skills from claws etc you have a nice block %.

C/C is the way to go against casters, W/S for melee duels. Personaly I like Kingslayer, Beast, or Chaos as the main weapon. Shield backup can be any of a number of things; Medusa's (bm some places), Tiamat's, Head Hunter's (psn facets) all come to mind. For a secondary claw, either Bartucs or Jade can be used.

Just make sure you're getting a fast enough attack speed with any setup.

Can I get some more feedback on this, or a link to a thread in which it is discussed? I still am not convinced in either direction.

Hey, may I ask something? (offtopic , but sorry)

I have low level Dtalon kicksin, and its kick attack rating is low.. about 4000 with lvl 26 Dtalon. How I am going to kick butts for paladins and barbarians, with such pathetic attack? And looks like Dtalon doesnt get attack bonuses from weapon, this is strange.

AR from weapons doesn't work - I know, it sucks. Use Charms with +AR against all builds, and Angelic vs melee. You should have at least 10k AR for most duels...

Punch up your dex. Base or near base dex compromises your AR and forces you to then compromise equipment to make it up. You need to wear a storm if you want to have a reasonable chance vs. pallys and barbs anyway and that means enough dex for max block. That would do you just fine. Dex also adds a small amount to your damage. See the above kicking sticky.
