On Dracul's Grasp, they have a mod of 5% Chance To Cast Level 10 Life Tap On Striking.

My question is this. Does the "heals x% of attack damage" work off your total attack damage (skills, charms, etc) or does it work like life leech, based off your weapons base damage.

I have a Wirtadin and regular life leech is useless because Wirt's leg has such a low base damage. If life tap worked off total damage, it would work marvelously when it casts and basically make him immortal during the 37 second duration.

So, help.

Well it would appear that it heals from your total damage. I haven't done a lot of testing on this, so don't pin me down on it. I'll do some tests.

So, help. What makes you think that life leech only works off your weapons base damage? I beleive that life leech and mana leech work off the physical damage inflicted by your weapon (including the effects of skills and charms etc and also the physical resistance of the target). Life Tap should work the same way for you and your merc.

The wirt leg will do low base damage so your total physical damage will be low anyway. Which paladin skills are you using to attack with?

sorry, I have been gone lately (my birthday was yesterday and the curioso festival was the day before ect.) but I did test this and with a zealot paladin using a wirts leg and an inventory full of fine small charms with lifetap casted I could tank a LE monster, tested getting hit down to 1/5 life, just a few slaps when lifetap casted filled up my orb.

So the answer would be: Yes, it works off of your total attack damage.

I use Holy Shock because it has a higher total damage ability as opposed to Holy Fire of Holy Freeze.

Well, you mean total physical damage right? Life tap won't work on the elemental damage I inflict will it? This may have been answered already by the first post I quoted but, I want to be sure for my guide so I'm not giving bad info.

Elemental damage doesn't work with LT. Only physical damage.

My pally definately displays the leech animation when zealing those PI ghost creatures and I'm pretty sure I see his life bulb going up. He uses conviction and does about 4k elemental damage per hit

Do you see a 2k life increase? The elemental damage is not used when determining leech.

no, it's total physical damage. I was under the impression that you were using alot of +dmg charms from this quote:

Ok, so I'm now under the impression it's just physical damage and +min/+max damage charms are taken into account.

Are Draculs the only source of %chance to cast LT?

The EXILE runeword (Shields) gives a 15% chance of casting level 5 LT (!) on striking.
