well... are they?

They get a mayor bonus from other boneskills, and with some +skill items, they could get really nasty. Can teeths hit a single monster multiple times?

Basically, you're making a bonemancer but are only using teeth,so yeah they should be viable if you make use of spear/spirit too. O.o

Teeth can hit a single monster several times if they re close to each other ,meaning just when you cast em.

I don't think they can. One teeth can hit many though, I think. At least the graphic seems to pierce everything. But yeah, with a nice lvl teeth you can

1) hunt for chippeds in normal
2) own nightmare
3) "hurt" monsters in hell

I notice myself using the bigger teeth u get at level 24 in hell a lot since it does 2k+ dmg while teeth does 4xx-5xx, levels on both are above 30, and no, I don't use a cheesy marrowwalk bug/feature. Oh, and the level 24 "big tooth" costs less mana at high levels too...

well teeth are unlike charged bolt... once a tooth hits a monster it does the damage and dissapears!! it does not carry on through the monster... the only real way for more than one tooth to hit a monster is if they are a large monster (bigger target lol) or the teeth are very cose togeva to do so... you will have a very hard time in hell using teeth...

Yeah I know, but they get a formidable 15% damage from 4 different sources, that's 1200% damage when the other skills are at level 20... I wonder how high the damage can get with teeth...?

I don't think that charged bolt actually carries through... but aside from that, you're absolutely right. Teeth connect and break. Dentists, if i'm not mistaken, were actually made viable only in 1.10.

Oh, and big tooth, I would assume is the Bone Spear.

1200% thats all well and good.. but when you consider the low damage you are applying the 1200% to it does not increase a drastic amount

Rizzo

yeah me knows, but if the damage could get to something like 50, it would still be 600 damage pr tooth... and there are lots of 'em. But maybe you're right...

600 is not alot in hell.. and its hard to get more than one tooth to hit. unless you stand right next to a monster (placing you in danger) you you could give the "dentist" a go. but consider bone spear and bone spirit are synergies of teeth.. it would be better to use them and mb have teeth as a back up?

i always thought charged bolt when through (just got knocked around a bit by monsters) but i think you might b right...

yeah, but maybe with a good bone armor you could stand a blow or two? Some minions perhaps?

yes, but the point im making its you will end up maxing spear and spirit.. (to spells much better than teeth) you will have them but you will favour a (imo) "lesser" spell over them. but always give it a go :D might b the best build ever lol.... :P

Teeth can reach 1800 dmg if you use the marrowwalk bug and 1586 if you dont. You need the following items:

+7 from weapon (boneshade)
+3 from head, the unique head, cant remember its name.
+3 from circlet
+3 from amu
+2 from armor
+2 from rings
+1 from belt
+11 from charms

Should be viable in hell cows :)

but with that gear you would have a kick *** bone spear and bone spirit... that would elminate the need for teeth...

The topic clearly says "Are dentists viable in 1.10?" so it isn't about building your average cookie-cutter build. The guy wanna play a dentist, get it?

And btw if only five teeth hits your still doing more damage per cast compared to a bone spirit of the same level.

So teeth>bonespirit on higher lvls.

i am mearly pointing out that he would have more powerfull skills to use if he were to follow this route.

? i dont get what you're saying, you mean its hard to hit 5 targets in cows for example?

so you thats how u calculated it... so you are taking the TOTAL damage from it hitting all 5 targets.... but lets take bone spear.. and cows... spear goes throught monsters casing damge to each one in turn.. if you factor that in... i think you find it is more powerfull

Pheer

however, i think we are seeing it from diffrent situations.. i can see situations in which teeth would b very usefull but also situations where bone spear and spirit are usefull. is these 3 skills are used together (which is why they are all synergies) for diffrent situations and not simply ignored. then this build would work well

methinks he could be pretty strong actually. With a couple of minions as tanks, he could possibly be very versatile

a dentist in 1.10 is nothing more then a standard boner. the difference is that you use a different skill as your main attack.

teeth will have it's pro's and it's con's. it's a very powerful tool to use against large act bosses, as mentioned because multiple teeth can hit 1 target. It's also helpful in areas like the flayer jungle and such, where multiple small targets are running around like mad.

bone spear is going to have it's pro's / con's as well, as you can take down medium sized targets with less effort.

Overall, equip / build him like a standard boner, and you'll be fine. I'd go with a holy freeze merc, and gumby as your army.

Surely the versatility comes from the fact that you can use a highly synergised spirit/spear as well though, meaning that the build would essentially be a bonemancer, albeit that your (intended) playstyle would differ?

Also, bear in mind that if you do decide to go hybrid, you will be spreading your skill points a good bit thinner, meaning your damage won't be as impressive. Nothing to stop you getting a gumby and a good merc though...

yeh I know... actually bliz destroyed some of the specialized classes with the synergies, 'cause the builds are more the same now.. a shame.

In reply to the dude who listed the max damages and gear to reach that.... Have u tried all the possible combinations of +2 ALL skills to get synergies, as opposed to getting +3 teeth...?
Since I thought only +ALL skills affected synergies too? And I think I tested it on some char too. Hmm. The result when tested was a +1 all skills beating a +3 something, due to 1-4 synergies with the +1 skills thingy, to the other thing. Damn my test results are accurate.

Hey i have a stupid question to ask. Would a razortail add a piercing attack to your teeth or is it just with arrows, bolts etc.

errrm i diddent think plus to skills worked on synergies.... only points actually put into the skill affect its syneriges.. not + skills

Hummm... Humbug I say. Try it with a skill below 20, it should say "next level yaddayadda blaablaa" then slap on a +1 skills thingy... Fire Claws should work fine, assuming u have 1 point in the 4 synergies to make em go up a level.
Or I might be wrong :)

Now where are the dam forum regs? ... the statistics gurus, RTB,Tenshi?

hey rizzo, i was just messing about with teeth and i discovered something you might find intresting.. where you click to fire off teeth determins how spread out your teeth will be. for example if you click right next to your necromancer, the teeth spread out lots.. but if you click the edge of the screen the teeth stay close together (better chance of hitting one monster multipule times) so make sure you always try to cast teeth as far away from you as possible..

Multiple teeth CANNOT hit the same target. Ever. This is a big part of the reason that Teeth is significantly weaker in general than charged bolt, to which it is often compared. The best comparison to teeth is the amazon skill Multishot--even though many arrows may pass through the monster, only one of them will hit. For this reason, Teeth is not a particularly viable Hell skill, simply because the damage it deals is very low, and there's no way to up that damage, even if you're fighting just a single monster.

Synergies do not benefit from +skills off of your equipment. The bonus from a synergy skill is calculated solely on the number of points you have invested in that skill.

I believe that Daimyo is correct and that teeth suffer from the Next-Delay effect which means that once a tooth hits a monster no others can do anything for the period of the delay (typically 4 frames). This means that although many teeth from one volley appear to hit a monster only the first will count. I have not tested this so if someone wants to confirm the theory from what I've heard I'll be glad.

So a Dentist is viable in Hell but only if you are prepared to use the other bone skills as back up against bosses and other tough targets. I have heard that a Dentist is a good way to clear the pits as all the monsters there tend to have low hp and a few volleys will kill most on the screen.
