Hi there,
Welcome me for my very first post on the Necromancer forum .
There are 4 shield-oriented rune words (not including Exile that is Paladin-specific) :
- Ancient's Pledge (Ral-Ort-Tal)
- Rhyme (Shael-Eth)
- Sanctuary (Ko-Ko-Mal)
- Splendor (Eth-Lum)
My question is (and it may have been already asked a 8,942,317 times, please don't hit me for this :scared: ) : do some of these rune words work into Necromancer's Shrunken Heads ?

Welcome aboard Frosty!
Heads are just like any other shield - as long as they are normal (ie not magical, rare or unique) and have the correct number of sockets, you can use them for runewords.
That being said, heads only give a max of 2 sockets, meaning that Rhyme and Splendor will work, but the other two won't.
Hope this helps,
EJ

And they can be hugely effective as well. I carried a Rhymed minion skull through half of NM and most of Hell before I traded for my Humonuculus. Even then is was a great second shield.
I have forgotten the stats for Splendor so it is up to you which is the best for your playing style.

Great news, thanks both of you for the replies.
Now, it's up to me to find a nice Shrunken Head, since I probably won't have homunculus before a quite long time. I'm sure it will be helpful a long way.
I think Splendor in a +3 skeletons and/or +3 curse will do the trick, here are the stats :
+1 To All Skills
+10% Faster Cast Rate
+20% Faster Block Rate
+60-100% Enhanced Defense (varies)
+10 To Energy
Regenerate Mana 15%
50% Extra Gold From Monsters
20% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items
+3 To Light Radius
Increase Maximum Durability 12%

yes they do, but the catch is the max sockets on a necro head is 2, so only the ones that take 2 runes would work

Meh...there are better rares. Still, it wouldn't be that bad of a runeword, putting Splendor in a good head...

23 new runewords...
splendor.. wasn't there last time I build an necromancer .. excellent
Seems a bit worse on the blocking but it makes up with the +1 skills.
There could be better rares indeed but if you find a brilliant normal skulll with + to useful skills this could be great...
I think Splendor in a +3 skeletons and/or +3 curse will do the trick, here are the stats :
+3 skeletons is possible, +3 curses not since that would be a magic shield.

I have a related question, so I'll post it in this thread. Statisticly, where's the best area to find a +3 RS/SM head? Preferably 2 socketed of course. It seems to me that a Splendored head like this would be even better than a Homunculus for a pure summoner.
+4/4, 20%mf, the mana mods are nice. It'd possibly be lacking in the blocking department, but a summoning necro doesn't require max block.

to find socketed stuff, get a group of people to do runs with absolutely no mf, do it in areas with lots of monsters, and do i with at least 5 or 6 people...a good place is the flayer jungle(can drop all high treasure classes. another place is city of the damned or whatver, the 4th section in act 4...lastly some of the act 5 sections in the tundra area...very good, lots of dudes there to kill...
thats the way we used to harvest socketed items back in classic

The thing about that though, would it be the best way to find an item with +3 to two lvl 1 skills? Actually, since they are so low level it probably wouldn't be bad.
This reminds me of trynig to find a socketed +3 bone spirit wand for white. :)
Theres no "best" place to find +3/3 items...it, like most of this game is based on luck. Try A high lvl area such as the pits, and hope for the best.
