I am building a summoner trangs necromancer, not a skelemancer because I intend to invest in a golem and place points in revives.

I was going to max SM, RS, and use a fire golem.

I want to use an act 2 merc and equip him with some bramble armor, I just dont know what aura the merc should have. Might sounds like an idea, but at the same time prayer sounds good also. Defiance is a bad idea, because I want my skeletons to get hit so the thorns aura takes effect. I thought prayer would be good to keep everyone alive, but might also be good for the skeletons, merc, and revives.

If anyone has any experience with this I could use some advice before choosing my merc.

Might is your best choice...don't bother with investing points into IG or FG though...the 1.10 patch ruined it for everyone. Only real useful golem now is Gumby.

But...if you insist on getting one...IG would be your best bet...and just use Gumby as a backup for when it dies.

You are maxing SM and RS, so you get Skeletons dealing physical damage. This makes Might the aura of choice, as it SIGNIFICANTLY boosts damage output of your skellies, whereas Prayer does essentially nothing (I hardly ever have to re-raise a warrior, and re-raising a mage isn't a big problem). In my opiinion, for a necromancer using Skellies there is no other sensible choice, even if you do weird things like using a fire golem and placing points (note the "points", instead of the usual "1 point") in Revive.

Always remember: dead monsters don't hurt your skellies. They drop items as well. They give experience. Concentrate on making them dead, rather than concentrating on protecting your skellies :-) When a few monsters are dead, blow them up to make more dead monsters. Once all of them are dead, your skellies will be 100% immune to their attacks, so their natural healing is more than enough.

Yes, as Myrakh-2 has said damge is key to this build. Killing fast is the best thing you can do to help your skeles.
I know its difficult to attain, but a Wisp Projector for the Wolverine spirt helps loads as well. My only curses are Amp Damage and Dim Vision. My skeles kill very fast with Amp, Might ( from my merc) and Wolverine ( from wisp ). I am aiming for the Beast runeword so that they also get Fanatacism.

I hadn't thought of Bramble. It would be a great addition to the damage output of the skeles. Thanks for that one!

Get a might merc. Prayer regens too slow & revives only gonna last 3 minutes max no matter how much life regen you got on em. Iron maiden will still own your skellys/merc, so prayer is still no good there. Potions are cheap & are all around :P . You'll thoroughly enjoy the added damage from might mixxed with your amp. Skellys can take a hella beating if you get them & mastery maxxed.
Even using trangs set, you can still go just 1 point into revives & still have 10-20 revives off that one point dependant on the rest of your equipment for skills. That & your max skeletons is an ample enough army. You can solo hell easily with it. My skellymancer did 5 free hell rushes in the little time I was on D2 today.
