View Full Version : Block or Vit: Part 2
In my original post about this topic my situation was differn't than what it is now. (note this is SCL) (also note this is Mephisto running only) Today I have 110% fcr. I also have a Whistans Guard shield. I use Wizspike to, which means i had to add pts to dex to get it to 75.
So the question is. Should I get max block or get max vitality? Things to remember are I use moat trick with a Blizzard sorc, Meph is a non factor in this equation. I also use Shiver Armor. The stygians and other durance lvl 2 monsters are my concern. Right now i have 250 stat points to distribute. So what would get me to Meph more safely?

Well for Softcore, honestly i've had no problem with either of those builds for Meph runs. if you plan to use whistans guard, you might as well go all vit since you probably have a good block %.
Even if i equiped Whistans and maxed vitality I would only have about 30% block. Or did you mean might as well max dex?
I think you should max block, I have tried both and max block keeps your alive better :)

I think he got it backwards. Sincee you're using whitstans, you should definitely hit max block, since it won't cost you mumch dex anyway, and you'll have lots left over for vit. Especially given that your concern is durance 2 monsters (mostly physical attacks), upping your block % from, say, 25% to 75%, is effectively like tripling your life. So yeah, definitely max block in mym opinion, and just stick whatever is left into vit.
For safe travel to Meph all you need is 63+FCR. Evil doll's dont do much harm as long as you not hit em - corpse explotion is brutal. Max block should aslo be in conjuction with faster/fastest blocks (whitestan/upped viscerataunt) otherwise you risk get stun-locked and get killer (if you use SS for example it is very high chance to die to stun-lock if you have high block)

If you want to keep on using Whistans guard you should definitly go formax blocking. The shield is not useful for anything else and its resistances+PDiamond.
110% FCR combined with FBR on your shield + Shiver Armor should dofine against Durance monster 8)
IMO, unless you are a melee sorc, you should not get max block. I think spending points in vitality is much more useful. Why would you need block when you can just teleport away? About 95% of all the damage I take are from elemental attacks, which cannot be blocked. When things are whacking at me, I just teleport away and let my mercenary walk up to them to take the hits.
The max block vs max vita issue is totally analyzed and elaborated on other threads. The conclusion is that max block virtually triples your life total. Sorry, I am totally bored to explain, you may search for that thread :)

I agree. Also don't forget sorc's only get 2 life per vit. point.

I've tried both. IMO, unless you consistently party with someone who's going to be tanking for you (No, mercs don't count. Even with good gear, he died way too easily for my tastes) you need to have blocking to take those shots. Lots of vit helps with elemental stuff, but the 2 HP per vit point isn't worth it IMO. I put ~400 into vitality and only came out with 1300 HP, that went down -fast- when I got stuck in a mob.
