my folks are going away for a week of vacation, leaving me all alone at home. i plan to have a few friends over so that we can goof off, and perhaps even practice some street fighting.
however we are all just a bunch of scappers who know nothing about fighting. i had spoken to a martial artist friend of mine at school about training techniques that dont actually involve sparring/hitting someone, and he told me about a technique where your partner hits you really hard with a pad on a stick, and you have to swing and react as quickly as possible to hit the pad, rather than focusing on the pain. the idea is to condition yourself to retaliate, rather than becoming mired in your own discomfort, so that when you are in a fight you wont be like "ow, my teef herts," but instead you will strike automatically.
ive been googling for the past 30 minutes but all i can find is websites trying to sell me 60$ 'uber ground fighting and knife fighting techniques extreme' books. i guess im asking if anyone here can suggest some training ideas such as the one i mentioned before, that dont actually involve us just hitting each other until we get tired and stupid, but rather techniques that we can drill on to develop good habits without the flash of doing dragon kicks in the driveway like idiots. if anyone knows of any (free) websites that offer good ideas about training/drilling i would appreciate a heads up. in my mind im picturing those kung fu dummies that have the arms that stick out, and you drill on it by practicing defense of incoming shots and then striking. something like that, but without the dummy.
for reference, we probably have enough gloves for everyone to wear, although some are bag gloves and some are full size 14 oz boxing gloves. we have no headgear or shoes. sparring is of course not out of the question, but for people like us who dont actually know how to fight, it becomes a slap fest in which everything is a blur and nothing is learned. we are looking to develop some basic 'game savvy' so that we can have some kind of skill set to draw upon if we are actually pressed to fight. drills that help condition good reaction time, balance, speed, coordination etc is what we are looking for. so if anybody can provide some basic smarts or a site that can help i would appreciate it.
thanks.
