Lighting Nova sorcs are they any good any more?

Hmmm, they were never good for anything but cowing, unless you've only duelled extremly stupid people. Anyway, they still don't work for the simple reason a fragile char like a sorc needs to get close to use it.

Ive only seen one nova sorc in .10. He/She was good though. If you have the right gear/skill it could work. Maybe incorporate eshield and high mana so you could take a decent amount of hits. The actual damage on nova is good assuming they dont absorb.

In 1.10 spells like fireball and chain lightning and blizzard and such can be casted from a very long distance, have huge synergies and aren't too mana intensive.

Nova:

1) Mana intensive, extremly at high levels

2) No synergies

3) Have to be close to cast, in some areas of the game this is simply suicide even with max block, dr and resistances

I was in a game with a high lvl nova/orb sorc. of course the other duelers were mocking her, but she proceeded to chase down and kill every one of them with nova. Prolly used expensive gear though.

1. mana intensive, yep. high mana build still viable in pvm, though.

2. synergies not needed. extremely consistent damage (doesn't go from 1-infiinity)

3. yep, have to be close to cast it. However, it is an area of effect spell that the others aren't. Its like comparing multiple shot to guided arrow. Guided does great damage to a single target, but multiple kills an entire screen. Nova doesn't care if there is one or one thousand monsters next to you, it damages them all that it can. Also, its a great spammable BECAUSE of the no synergies rather than using yet another attack of the same element. It works well with meteor and blizzard, something that I don't believe that fireball or glacial spike do.

the point is, nova is not long past, it just isn't the insane damage that everyone else expects. It has its uses, never forget that.

but u wont be winning vs many good duelers with a nova sorc and if ur a pubby dueler that will be very frustrating, losing to both decent duelers and bm duelers

nova maybe not in 1.10, but the lightning skill itself might be the most underused mass-damage spell in the game. lightning sorcs with any kind of aim are deadly if not absorbed, but you rarely see them.

yeah most cant aim, but there r alot of lighting sorcs, just not as much as fireball.

I actually made on in 1.09, and unless you have crazy equipment or your enemies have crap resists you dont stand a good chance against the competition. Your damage will also affect your ability to take on barbs and zealots since if you dont get a quick kill a ww or charge and zeal will end the battle for you quickly. VS other sorcs FO proved to be better than nova if you decided to stand in front of the orb too :P
