Mine would have to be the maggot lair. I just had my lvl 16 bear druid get owned there. I had like 350 life but no res, i figured with all my life i could handle goin a little farther. Little did i know inferno sorcs like to trap people inbetween themselves and scarabs  which killed me pretty fast. Then he got close to dieing and managed to quit out while casting inferno, good reflexes i guess :(.

Yeah I feel ya I'm a pure hammerdin, so in Maggot lairs I play support with auras, but some necro or sorc always either stops right behind me or blocks my movement, just not moving or casting! and I get stuck unable to hit the bugs but taking damage, it happens in Arcane too ( the people not moving, I swear all chars should have a 0 damage kick skill with 100% knock back that works on characters) but there I can at least dish some damage. But yeah the sorc who always stops trapping you in the lines of fire anywhere while not casting is the whole reason for me staying way from act II, in pub games at least, I don't like to die to other people’s rampant stupidity.

Flayer Dungeon! I hate it with every char. I'm scared to death by With Doctor Endungu, although he isn't as bad as he used to be it seems.

Only thing that makes me nervous is the Ruined Temple wiht no BO. Walking down those stairs most of the time is nothing but here and thier, there is a pack just camped right there and they are usually not whimps. If you cna get in there freely and get set up its not a problem but when you get hit at the entrance it can be a quick death.

Nithlaks Temple can get Nasty with those Pit vipers also but doesnt worry me.

Anywhere wiht Gloams can be bad new with champs or bosses but that doesnt make me nervous.

Hitting Throne in Hell can be a nasty one also and it does concernme with most builds as it can be the same as in the temples with them parked right there.

Treat the entrance to the ruined temple and the Hell/NM throne just as a stranger's TP. Imagine a worst scenario before clicking on the entrance.

For the ruined temple, don't move immediately away from the entrance. Stay there for a moment, and kill every monster who can see you at the entrance. But don't stay there too long, cuz your merc and minions may draw other monsters towards the entrance. There will be three doors. Pick up one, scout ahead if you have the ability to scout (throw traps, cast a decoy, etc), and then just move in. Assume you reach there through regular questing play. Then, it's virtually impossible that your char get killed in one hit or two right at the entrance, even if it is trapped.

For the Hell/NM throne, make sure your char can survive at least one worst hit and a few lightening bolts, and has been prepared to handle IM. Then the worst thing you may get is save&exit or Alt-F4. No1 should die there, unless the setup is by another player who has just entered the throne ahead of you.

Mine are almost the same as those, except for the Arcane Sanctuary. I don't think it's so bad, although it gets bad when you go in one direction with more than one player.

I dislike the first part of Act3 the most. I'm always happy when I finally reach that WP of lower kurast.

Only thing that makes me nervous is the Ruined Temple wiht no BO.

I was going to say ruined temple also. There are big nasty packs spawning when you go down there, I always get nervous going down those stairs no matter what character I am.

Also the maggot lair sucks because people just stop and refuse to move. It's not such a hassle if you are leading and can kill but if you get in the back somehow and can't get to the front it's soooo annoying.

The sad thing is that that is NOT what people are doing. Although it may seem so to you.
On there screen it can very well be so that YOU are blocking them, while at your screen THEY are blocking you.
I play over battle net trough a LAN and this has happened a lot to us, blocking eachother because both clients receive different information from the server. I'm realy surprised that this has never been fixed.

I really can't stand the tundra areas of act 5. Boring, unattractive, no quests after the barb rescue, and full of those pesky imps.

Also the Kurast sewers. They're so dark, and it can take forever to find the sewer lever when you're searching for the Chunks o' Khalim.

(((As for areas that are simply really scary/difficult... well, aren't we playing *hardcore?* Gib h@rd areaz, noob! :D )))

Why is Maggot so scary?

I think you guys are more focused on the pain in the butt side of it instead of danger. I dont have any issues with Maggot at any difficulty with most any build I have done. Now you you make one of those builds that cant kill certain things then sure Magot can really suck but it is only dangerous due to your choice of build.

My Skellymancer went thru maggot liek it was nothing because I got a Boneskill to kill with. If you make one of thses with no castable killling skill then you ahve to rely on your skeellies as most mercs get lost in there, or you ahve to use a lot of TPs which is really a good strat to use in there with minions.

Hammerdins can be tuff in there but its very doable you jsut have to work your hammers in there.

Barbs if WW can run the damn thing and just WW thru and past troubles like PIs.

Sorcs teleport

Sins, melee it would be a bit ruff but trappers shouldnt have much trouble unless single element.

Druids.....PI Probelsm for Melee, but its like shooting fish in a barrel for casters.

Melee in general can be time consuming but it is hardly scary and as long as you take your time you can normally only have to fight one monster at a time.

Viper is more hazardous than maggot, and so can the Tombs be depending on builds.

Depends what character I play...

for malee I hate CS due to 1.10 uberextreme IM. I dont like one-hit suicidals, even in NM.

for more delicate casters, even I always have maxed block - all areas with Vipers, Dolls or those Lords (moon or whatever, big axe hits hard) - especially when they spawn like that: might+mana burn styg dolls+fana lords+pack of Gloams = instant death. Well, I survived that one but only because I'am a blocking freak on every necro or sorc I make.

Btw, the only mod I really fear is mana burn. I can stand might, fanaticism, conviction, all just plz dont spawn me with mana burn, uuugh!!!!

Well, I guess I thought that was the point of the whole thread; by now, no area is really scary to a seasoned player, as you've had to deal with it ~400 times. Its more the pain in the *** factor. Heck, if you really think about it, dying to some ES/conviction dolls is reall more of a pain in the *** than it is scary. I guess I'm just starting to lose the adrenalin rush when that happens, I just see those dolls coming and think : well, damn. I may have to rebuild here in a few seconds.

As far as the most hated areas of the game: I'd have to agree with the maggot lair for pain in the *** factor. Escpecially so for those of us who don't use maphack. Other areas for me include any area where heavy random/a-o-e poison damage is dealt (lost city, some parts of bloody FH, etc). I hate carrying antidote potions...

The maggot lair is not so bad... all right turns gets you through it very quickly.

Aside from the already mentioned terrors of collecting Khalim's parts, I think I hate level 3 of the Worldstone Keep the most. It usually seems to have at least one creature type that's a hassle, and it seems to be the only place on which I can't lock in the pattern.

I hate Throne Room in all difficulty levels. Act 3 I love, A2 I could do without the Maggot Lair because of the close quarters. Act 4 is actually underrated by all, lots of death in them thar Plains! A1 I like because of the neat music.

Maggot lair and collecting Khalim's pieces is the most annoying.

Trying to do act4 solo with a melee character scariest/hardest. Act5 is also scary with im but its obviously not as common as in the cs.

I also usually get a bit bervous before nm duriel as i'm usually too weak to do it but do it anyway because i'm impatient.

Normal Duriel, because at this time, I'm still only about level 20-24, and worried about not being able to take him.

Ruined Temple, because of how many times I've walked into a fanat pack waiting at the door.

nm and hell ancients ... on a zon.

Anyone ever notice that ancients like blondes? My SC rusher zon is a personal fave of all 3 ancients, they chase her in circles around the summit ignoring everyone else. It really is pretty funny, no one understands it till they see it but I am 10 for 10 that I have counted since i noticed how much they love me.

They are in the right act then! I love chasing the bunnies in act 5!!! I could spend an hour just playing with the little animals in the game - chickens, bunnies ... did you know you can chase the red snakes in act 3? Ohhhh and after you squoosh the bugs in tyreal's chamber and leave you can take his tp back and they are all there again!!!!SC bugs!

Running around in CS waiting for iron maiden to wear off. Fortunitly I have never died from it, which is amazing, seeing as I play a barb most of the time.

But with all of the barbs stamina and run speed I never have a prob.

Maggot lair is actually very easy for barbs, never had problems there.

I dislike most of the "new" act5 in NM and Hell. Used to really enjoy just about everywhere there before 1.10, and would completely clear it many times just for fun (while everyone else did cows), but now it's just annoying and tedious, not challenging. Quill Rats don't belong to act5, and neither do these tons of ranged attackers that get you from off-screen. Not to mention dolls in the Throne Room. I don't particularly care for act4, either. Flesh Beasts and Burning Souls are just irritating.

On the flipside, I really like the Flayer Jungle, but I almost never play melee characters, so this may be the reason. I can kill fast here, drops and xp are good in all difficulties, nobody else goes there and it's just a lot of fun. Far Oasis is another favourite place of mine.

There is a nice simple fast way to get IM removed......run straight at an Obliv and most of the time he will hit you with Decrep or Weaken and very rarely will he not overcast the IM.

I dont enter CS with Barbs solo until I have Zerk. Once i have that I have no issues with CS as I have spent a ton of time dealing wiht IM with all my Classic play. 1.10 has made me put a point in Warcry for all my Barb builds. It is very valuable and since i always get Battlecry anyway, it is only one more point spent.

Even after reading all of this and thinking more, the Ruined temple is still the one that jumps out at me. I have gone down and Killed Nithlak and his pet snakes several times in 1.10 and by God those are some of the best revives in the game!!!

Act 3 problems ppl have have to be simply the "Cant find the WP" or "cant find flayer". Flayer is such a great place for lvling and for MASS drops. All Shamons champs and bosses are double bosses. Flayers pack up for easy killing for many builds. Sure in Hell you have a big mix of immunities so if can be ruff for those single element buidls but if you have a small group with diversity Flayer runs are very good. Necros using monster attracting skils like walls, prisons or confuse can set up like 100 flayers for a 1-2 CE EXP rush. Javas get thiere beloved tight masses for Fury, Hammerdins just eat it all up, WW barbs just keep whirling as dont worry, those midgets are racing to be the first one to smack thier face into your weapon!!! Met sorcs get mas destruction, stand in thier own fire and even kill more. Blizz gets tons of kills, Trappers......well can u say off screen mass carnage??? Not sure many Druids have a lot of fun there but Tornados and hurricane should do well. Melee Pallys and Druid may have a ruff time as well as maybe Conc and Zerkers wiht the massive numbers.

when you are on one of these mass killing builds go try Flayer in a big game at lvl 75-85 or so.....85 may be a bit high, but there are few places to kill more things in a short amount of time than Flayer Jungle!

Act 4 CoD (City of the Damned) with Mawfeinds and those Lightning orb shooters is also some of the best EXP in the game. Those light ball shooting buffalo lookin dudes are 1-2 hit kills and big exp. River with Udars, Mawfeinds, and Balrogs is also a perfect lvling spawn.

i love it when Worldstone spawns Flayers....that can be some mass carnage and good exp also.

Definitely the bloody foothills and frigid highlands.

I always do shenk/eldritch runs for the awesome exp they give. Unfortunately, almost every character of mine has died there from archers.

This time it was totally my own stupid fault though. I switched weapons to use blizzard on a boss pack of archers (for MF), unfortunately I have NO idea how it got set to teleport, since i clearly remember using blizzard before on that weapon switch, but it was on teleport... so I clicked to blizzard... and wound up in the middle of a bunch of archers. Then I got mixed up and tried to leave and drink a full rejuv at the same time, so I hit esc, hit 1 (didn't do anything since I was in the esc menu), realized what I did and was about to hit save and exit then I died....

AHHHHHHH!!!

But yeah I hate bloody foothills/frigid highlands, although I'm probably going to continue doing shenk/eldritch runs...
