Attempted Scam?? [Archive] - Diablo 3 & Diablo 2 Forums

Well, i got this msg from a guy a few days ago, on West, his account was d2dragonacc.

in anycase, he said

"hey, its me, your friend (or something like that), i just got this free account. Guess who it is."
"in RL or internet?"
"RL"
"I dontk know, you stumped me."
"cmon guess"
*thinks of random name*
"Brandon?"
"Yes, its me Brandon!"
"Oh, cuz i dont know any Brandons."

and that was it. craziest thing ever.

i think it might have been a scam, cuz if i did fall for it, he would have wanted Über Itamz!!!11

Yeah, the other day a guy asked me if I knew what [the name of my best friend]'s account name was, and I thought it was one of our other friends that was going to start playing, so I told him what it was, and then he was like wait, that doesn't sound familiar, is this mike, and I'm like no, you have the wrong person, and then he kept asking what my name was and finally I just made one up to get him off my back; three days later the same account messages my friend's account (that I accidentally gave him the name of =/ ) and was like, hey this is [the name I made up] and I'm on my cousin's computer. My friend recognized the name as one I use sometimes online, and he knew I'd never use it talking to him so he kind of just played around with the guy, but he never asked for any gear or anything, so we're going to kind of look out for him and see what happens.

*shrugs* No threat to me or my friend as we always play together, but some people might fall for something like that. I wish bnetters weren't so childish =/

Someone in a baal run game tried that trick the other day. It was was a zon who was asking ppl if they wanted to know their ladder places. (this was on nonladder too) Anyway, my friend who was in that game started screaming it was a scam. So no one replied. later, my friend, who had a map hack, told me the zon and a lot of duped items. She had a 6 socket armor with 6 exactly same jewels and a 3 socket helm with 3 other exactly same jewels as well. The only impressive part was that she had a windforce bow which wasnt hacked (i think. it gave 30 to all attibute pts. and a lot of other stuff as well)

Croatia100 on East tried this with me. - saw me chattering in channel (who woulda guessed ..)

"good, 'cept he wants to kill you for ---insert some no family forum stuff here---"

I strung him along a bit but I got caught by this before, they play on your generosity and I would give a friend the clothes of my chars' backs if they needed it - I was about to outfit one of these chars in 1.09 gosu gear when it asked me if it could just have that old account. None of my friends would ask that so I started asking questions at that point.

bad mean people!!!!! killll them all!!!!! Kill them and eats them!!!!!

That happened to me a while back.
My brother was on and this guy was like hey man what's up to him, basically what u said up there but he fell for it. Later on i was like tyler i need to transfer and he told me to come into the game his RL "friend" was in and transfer there. I didnt know about what happened earlier and i presumed that my brother wasnt an idiot. So i drop my 2 sojs, and my occy. The guy picks them up and leaves. Now this was like 3 years ago when sojs and occys were worth ALOT so as u can guess i was pretty pissed.
