How to create a char?

I'm having problems creating an HC char ... when i create a char i only get to choose if i want a ladder or no ladder char. How do i make the hc char ? I haven't played in a while and don't remember how to do it :D

You have to complete Normal difficulty first with any other character tied to that cd-key.

you can also down load an sp char that has completed norm I believe. Check the articles listings for mongojerry's series he had some downloadable single player chars.

I'm confused. Was this fella asking if it's open or closed Bnet? If you're on Open, download the new patch. HC chars can now be made immediately without having to complete Normal in SC.

The check-box for HC is right by the ladder / non-ladder check box.

If its not there, then as others said, it has to do with needing to complete normal softcore before that option will show up.

Conner not true... for closed Bnet - even if after u DL the patch... u can't just make a new HC char..

Right now since you have played HC... if u create a NEW acct - u can make a HC char... but if u nvr beaten norm in SC - u can't create a HC char.

Its based upon whether that particular computer has completed normal. I suppose its possible that if you log on to a friends account and join a game with a NM character, this will 'trick' your computer into allowing you to create HC chars. "Possible", but I don't know how "probable".

If I had to do it myself, I'd manually switch the registry setting. No trojans/hacks/etc that way.

In the windows registry, there's a field in the D2 area of the registry for "allow hardcore" and its set to 0 or 1. It gets permanently flipped from 0 to 1 after you complete normal.
