View Full Version : Does anyone play the game correctly anymore?

Am I the only person on the planet that does every quest and gets every waypoint (even halls of the dead), as well as doing it in order? The only person that doesn't like to be rushed? The only person that ever makes Khalim's Will and smashes the orb?

If anyone out there actually likes playing the game instead of running or teleporting past monsters so they can get to baal's minion's faster, I'll be starting a Bowazon on Ladder Season 2 (on USEast). Account name *Thortok2000.

Unfortunately I am on Europe, but I like to play exactly the way you describe. So no, you are definately not the only one :)

Good luck finding some companions!

B.net kicked me off for a few and then mom kicked me off so she could play her character and she just got off and went to bed. Sigh.

I don't like moving up to Nightmare or Hell unless I can survive on my own. That said, I don't mind a little rush once in awhile. Depending on my mood and what character I'm playing, I will play differently. Sometimes I do straight Baal runs, and now I'm starting to MF a little (just started playing again, so my gear is crappy). However, I almost always do Normal and Hell difficulty in sequence. I sometimes get a rush through Nightmare pretty quick to do Baal runs, but that gets boring, so I switch to doing MF.

I'd rather do MF by going through some of the less popular MF areas. In fact, I prefer to start a game and do the caves/pits in each act and the bosses too, as opposed to doing pindleskin-new game-pindleskin-new game-etc...maybe its not as efficient, but it sure makes the game more interesting.

Me and my friend made new chars (Both Lvl19) and are playing the game all the way through in the new ladder season. If you are around the same level, you may join us, but we play with Ironman rules: we arent allowed to go to town, ever. Makes the game more interesting. We were both out of health pots at one point and I put 2 chip skulls in a random piece of armor and we sat there regenning with it and using wells to heal until we got back going again :]. We're not allowed to die either.

I'm curious, what are your rules? Are you playing HC? If the monsters get too tough, do you start a new game an go back through some areas you've played before?

I used to play text-based Rogue clones like Angband. Ironman was a little different there. Every time you move up or down a staircase, you get a newly generated board. You also start on whatever level you last saved at. However death is permanent here. If monsters and maps were regenerated in D2, it would really make softcore suck! Imagine trying to get back to your dead body!

We are playing SC. We would play HC, but we don't want to have to worry THAT much about dying. We avoid it at all costs, but stuff happens every now and then. If monsters get too tough, well, havent ran into that yet. Guess we'll see what happens when they do. Currently L19 and just got shaft. We seem to be leveling at a rate that keeps us at the right level to kill monsters. Our rules are just no going back to town and no dying. Also, we make exceptions to our rules since these are our actual characters, ie. we are allowed to get a merc once per act (but if he dies, we cant go back to res him :[). We also allow ourselves 1 Cain visit per act (ID scrolls are hard to come by, esp since we need to ID everything on the fly and we cannot have anything in stash since we cant use town). We allow ourselves the option to gamble when we finish an act also. Just something to spice things up. And we only play with each other. We are still debating the Repair issue as we go through weapons/armor. We've currently stuck to the no repair thing, but we know that once we get higher level, we're going to need a good staple wepaon and be able to repair it :]. It's a lot of rules, but hey, if you play the game just to dominate, it's too easy. We've both done the L90+ chars, rush to hell, account full of mules thing. My friend summed it up once when I asked 'should we allow ourselves to use stash' and he said "hrm, nah. this ironman thing is about making compromises, that's what makes it interesting."

Not to turn down your playing style, but it just strikes me as weird whenever I read something like this. No offence, I hope. But I cannot understand how people can enjoy leeching experience and then doing countless runs through the same area in a row, and in the same breath call questing boring.

We think the same way.

To the original question: I get every waypoint though I may not always take them in correct order. Same thing in quests.

I also like to complete all the quests and get all the waypoints. On occasions I get rushed, but I don't really like to be at a point where my character can't efficiently kill monsters.

What I really like best is to clear whole acts in hell while wearing some MF gear. That way, I get more diversity out of the game.

PS : I also complete Khalim's Will!

My friends and I always start out going straight through... then we get to act 3, say "screw act III", rush past it... then struggle through act 4. act 5 usually turns out to be too hard, so we just turn into normal b.net people then, leeching exp until we are too powerful to be bothered with saving those damn barbs...

I really would rather go through everything, but my hatred of all things act III (yes, all things... meph, lam esen, the maze-like forests, those damn sewers, and how far away from everything you start when you get there/join/die. EVERYTHING) trumps my desire for a complete game..

Yeah... I'm with turnpike. Everything's fun until act 3, then it gets annoying. >.< Oh well, I just started playing again with my friend and we've been going through every quest and every waypoint. So far so good. On act 5 now.
