View Full Version : Holy Fire Melee Paladin... worth it?

I did some tests, and with the right combination attainable items (+2 circlet, djinn slayer, dragonscale, arachnid mesh, +aura charms) I managed to get Holy Fire's damage up to about 7000 - 9000. Thats pretty huge considering its the most useless of the three auras when it comes to melee.
Has anyone ever tried to do one of these non-ranger style? Doesnt seem like a worthwhile aura for whenever the ladder resets, but a neat project if you're rich!

I like the ideal my self. There was a post about if dragon scale is useless. Then they came up with a melee holyfire build that would use it. I think that using hand of justice would be a great ideal for this build.

Using Hand of Justice would allow you to run Conviction as your main aura and still pump Holy Fire with synergies. Conviction would remove most of the fire immunities that are out there, and make your damage that much more effective. Sounds like a wicked idea, except for the fact that HoJ is a pricey runeword...
Using HoJ and Resist Fire at level 20 would only yield 345-400 fire damage. Maxing Salvation would increase it to 435-504. It's too bad +skills don't affect Holy Fire on HoJ.
EDIT: You'd have to beef up your fire damage with other gear and charms. Dragonscale is a must for the fire damage and -fire resistance to enemies.

7k-9k damage? Could you please post the equipment you used to get that? that might give me a reason to try it out, as I do have most of the things that you would need to do it.

Thats what I'm doing. Created a new paladin few days ago. He is level 25 now, but I'm leveling him everyday in a 3 player private game so it goes quite well.
The only mistake I did was to make the HoJ on a superior item. So now I need to stock up on ORT runes because I cant afford a full repair at 250 000 every 15 minutes. :grrr:

Holy crap, that's pretty pricey... What kind of weapon did you make it in? I was thinking phase blade as they are fast as hell and indestructible...
This character would be wicked in parties as well, since they are running a high level Conviction all the time. Partner up with a fully synergized Tesladin and Freezadin and you will be an unstoppable meleee team... No one will have to worry about backup attacks since [most] immunities will be broken. Cool cool :P

I made it on a superior War Spike even though I knew repair costs would be ridiculous. I regret it now, especially since it only got 294% (281 + 13) enhanced damage (330% is max without superior). I thought a 5fpa zeal is enough for PvM. But yes, having a Tesladin and a Freezadin as party members would be cool.

Here is what I did it with (you gotta be rich):
[ Of course, max Holy Fire, Salvation and Resist Fire. ]
- Arachnid Mesh
- 2 SOJs / Wedding Rings
- +3 offensive aura ammy
- Dragonscale shield
- Shako
- Djinn Slayer (actually adds more damage than +3 Heavens Light!)
- Magefist
- Annihilus
- Inventory full o' offensive aura charms
- Ormus' Robes
Of course, if you can afford fire facets, throw em in everything that can have em. Like I said, it's kind of expensive - god knows I cant afford pretty much everything on this list, but if you can... and people saw a holy fire paladin crushing stuff... that would be wild!
Good luck!
you can get more damage. instead of shako use
+3 offensive aura circlet w/ 2 5/5 facets (w/ desired suffix, whale is good for life)
Use upgraded 5/5 Hexfire. +3 fire skills 5/-5 fire, ITD! and its fast.
ditch one bk ring for a ravenfrost though.

Will the Bonus to Fire Skill Damage granted by Ormus' Robes and Fire Facets work when Holy Fire is granted by HoJ...? I know it has been determined that synergies still work, so I'm guessing yes...
ADDED: The only problem with Ormus' Robes is that it has no other useful mods for a melee character...

Thermal Zealots don't have to be expensive. I made one on ladder but he had problems with a lot of the areas in hell. I suppose in hindsight I should've used more Crushing blow. Nonetheless he hit about 3000 damage without any pro gear.

Duh, of course it would... That is the whole reason why Dragonscale works... I'm a moron :P

most of that stuff looks pretty cheap. I would say that's some sick damage, alright. I think I might try it out and see what I can get away with, lol.
